Fallout 3 finally finished

Time for retailers to duck and cover because development has wrapped on Bethesda's postapocalyptic role-playing game in anticipation of its October 28 debut.

The eagerly awaited nuclear winter is almost here. A full decade after the release of the postapocalyptic role-playing game Fallout 2 on the PC and four years after work on the project began, Bethesda Softworks today announced that Fallout 3 has gone gold for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Some 200 years after Washington DC is devastated by a nuclear war, players explore the wasteland surrounding the US capital. As one might expect, the area is marginally less hospitable as lobbyists and lawmakers have given way to mutants, ghouls, and heavily armed militia factions.

The remaining sane population lives in subterranean bunkers called "vaults," and there are few reasons for people to venture into the wastelands above. However, Fallout 3 has the protagonist taking the first brave steps into the world outside in search of a missing father.

The game has a lofty heritage to live up to, as it is Bethesda's first crack at the beloved line of PC games originally produced by Interplay, as well as the company's biggest release since the critically adored The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 2006. For more on Fallout 3, check out GameSpot's previous coverage and recent video Q&A with Bethesda's Pete Hines.

Farcry 2 is Action. Fallout 3 is Action RPG. Red Alert 3 is strategy. Dead Space is crap. Gears of War is hack and slash. Fable 2, Diablo 3, Fear 2 aren't coming soon The worst part is that there is WOTLK :/

Amen Darby. This game is going to be...the game to end all games up till now. I have been drooling over it daily, and in two weeks...TWO WEEKS...the longest bloody weeks of my life...it will be time to install this masterpiece and get to it. Pre-ordered, i live a block from the game store...Oct. 28th I stick the IV in, get a case of Pepsi, smokes, and the catheter, turn off the phone, lock the door and say goodbye to reality for a few months. Thank god I work for myself...id be fired for sure if i didnt.

"As one might expect, the area is marginally less hospitable as lobbyists and lawmakers have given way to mutants, ghouls, and heavily armed militia factions." what's the difference between the two?

Sarcasm aside, it's great that it's finished, and when it goes gold, that will be all the more better.

Not long to go now, until the skeptics are finally silenced by this behemoth of a game. If one looks at the development curve of Bethesda's games over the past decade, it's plain to see that they know what they're doing with this title. Maturity and humour; scope and density; story and all-out violence: All would appear to have been finely balanced in bringing the amazing Fallout mythology to a 21st century audience and at the same time, creating a unique and immersive experience unlike anything that has gone before. Now where did I put that gatling laser...

Long time fan, loved Fallout 2, and can't wait for 3. Biggest problem is the discipline to wait for Thanksgiving sales to buy a new GPU and PSU knowing the game comes out 1 month before that. I want the lunch box.

but they still don't have to do it in the middle of a fan area go make a none fan place to talk about how much they hate it and leave the ones that wanna play it and can already see the greatness in it alone and happy it would be a lot better that way too

Why are you guys wasting your time on the detractors? Seriously, they're actually wasting time trying to debase a game, that everyone is generally excited about, instead of even remotely giving it a chance. They keep ranting about Oblivion this or Fallout 2 that...Blah-blah-blah....And it won't stop, it'll only get worse when the game comes out, with these trolls still bashing a game that they originally stated they weren't going to buy; looking for any insignificant issues to fault. Hell, we have people already decrying the object launcher as "unrealistic"....Sanity must be a desirable trait.

What you Fallout fanboys always seem to forget is that there would never have been another Fallout without Bethusda. Interplay wasn't going to do it because they went pretty much belly up! If you don't want to play it then go ahead and just pretend that Fallout 3 never happened, because that's what could have happened. The original Fallout games look (and play) the way they did because of the time they were made. If better technology was avaliable back then the developers would have used it. And if you hate 3d games then you really have no buisness playing videogames today.

@ciskaos - Huh? This game is a mess!?!?

Then I guess all those "best of show" awards it got at E3 were just the result of a bunch of smoke and mirrors? And do you truly trust the quality of a leak that you played?

It's Bethesda and they've been working on this game for years. Whether or not it's your taste, the quality will be there. You obviously didn't like Oblivion, a game that received numerous game of the year awards, so it's safe to say that you won't like this great game either.

Kelogz, Morrowing and dagger fall were great, but as soon as they decided to "streamline" the game; it became far less interresting, a 10 year could play it without any problem!
Anyway, you can absolutely not say that animation are industry standard, they, is not me, do suck indeed. As goes for the so called Radiant AI System. Anyway..

As for the bankruptcy, no i do not dream, they will survive, I just hope Pete, the stupid blockbuster director, will get to use his unemployment insurance for the sake of all mature player.
    Have a good day.

ciskaos, u suck man. With Bethesda in charge how can this game possibly fail. If your hoping for bankruptcy then you're in for a big disappointment.

Oblivion was a great game and fallout 3 will be the best fallout of them all
