Sony Online Entertainment is set to celebrate Everquest's 10th anniversary at its annual Fan Faire gathering in Las Vegas next week. To honor the occasion, it appears as if SOE is gearing up to announce new expansions for the two mainstays in its flagship massively multiplayer online role-playing game franchise, if a pair of United States Patent and Trademark filings are any indication.

Earlier this week, Superannuation spotted a pair of trademark applications surfaced in the USPTO's online database for "Everquest Underfoot" and "Everquest II Sentinel's Fate". Both filings carry descriptors typical of a new game, including "computer game software and video game software," and "entertainment services, namely, operating a multiplayer, role playing, real time game for others via the Internet and local area computer networks."

Longtime EQ fans will recognize the Underfoot name as a calling card of the ancient deity Brell Serilis, who is the champion of underground and cave-dwelling races, such as dwarves and gnomes. While Sentinel's Fate is a bit less clear, the name could be an allusion to Sontalak, the challenging dragon in the Western Wastes introduced with the Scars of Velious expansion that guarded the one-time end-game content housed within the Temple of Veeshan.

Let's just hope that is just as good as Final Fantasy XIII should be.

Nice glad to see SoE is still working hard on their EQ games. But I quit EQ2 few months back and waiting for The Old Republic and Global Agenda.

Some days I miss playing EQ, but I kinda wish I could get back the year + hours worth of real life time I put into playing it. It was fun, and reasonable to play for the cost, rather than buying new games every month, but I missed out on so many great games while I played it. I would go back to playing it, but I dont feel like upgrading my desktop, and installing all the EQ software

Welcome to what is called "hobbies", if you had a great time, enjoyed it, and it was your spare time hobby, then you shouldn't regret. Lots of people sink time in building model trains, golfing, hiking, doing whatever they love, yet you don't see people complaining about all the things they missed. Your statement is a contradiction.

Nice. New expensions. I let go EQ1 a couple years back because I simply had no more time for such grind BUT I had a lot of fun with it. I stopped playing EQ2 a few months ago simply because I had capped and wanted to try something else (I'm playing LOTRO now - very fun). If this is Velious related then I'm definitly willing to go back on for a few months, level cap increase or not. Velious, in EQ1, was my favorite expension back in the day.

And no...no need for EQ3 at this point in time.

Its time to make a eq3 an go back to there roots..Dont dumb the game down like it is now..It lost me in the end as a gamer..Dumbing the game down to compete with wow was a horrible mistake..

Miss the days of eq being worth a challenge game. Its what drew me back...Some may say thats what drew them away from eq live..Myself i miss the challenge of raids...Call your guildies on the phone, get every one together..Where challenging so an sos guild,,Than to take down that boss an get a ubar item..Was actually a challenge..Even the spells in eq 2 where dumbed down..What happen to levitate..

EQ is so horrid i thought SOE would have given up by now, at least they aren't running around ruining other people's MMOs anymore.

I've tried EQII and WoW, but it just makes me want to go back to EQ. I don't know about EQII, but EQ seems to still be pretty full, in fact my guild is as full as it's been in a long time!

    to JrSlaker:

SOE has also has Free Realms. I heard it already has a user base of 500k in just 1 month after it's release.

Word is the EQ2 expansion will be Velious and/or Odus if you look deep at what Sentinel can refer to in the lore.

Course it could be another icy place that isnt Velious at all. However the current new content strongly hints at some sort of 'Ice Land'. Getting to be that time of year where we see new events that lead up to expansions release.

Due to the age of this game...i wish they would make it F2P or something, it could make it very active again...worked for ROSE Online.

Amazing how this can still be alive with such competition on the market. Does anyone know how many players EQ2 has?
