In April, EA Sports named Super Bowl XLIII adversaries Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals and Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers as cover athletes for Madden NFL 10. The move was notable in that it marked the first time in the franchise's history that two players were named to the cover of a Madden NFL installment.

With Madden NFL 10 due for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and Wii on August 14, fans of the football sim will be able to engage the two athletes in a bit of preseason play thanks to GameStop's content-exclusive demo. Scheduled for release in late July, the demo serves as a preorder incentive for Madden NFL 10 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The demo will let players pit the Steelers against the Cardinals in five-minute quarters.

EA Sports has confirmed for GameSpot that a standard Madden NFL 10 demo will also be available in late July through Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. The free sampler matches off the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants in one-minute quarters

For more on Madden NFL 10, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Well I suppose this is great for the hardcore and completists but if you've never played Madden before why would you sink the loot before you find out how it works? If you're already sinking the loot you don't really need a demo right? This seems mainly geared to encourage the already committed.

A demo as a preorder bonus? I know they are releasing it over XBL and PSN anyway, but demos should be mandatory for games, not as a buying incentive.

There is absolutely no reason to preorder the game unless you feel you must have it at midnight. All of the stores I've ever purchased Madden always has a metric ton of them on release day. As for Gamestop, I still would rather buy used games from Blockbuster, Gamefly, Play N Trade, or Amazon for much cheaper than GS ever sells it for.

Everyone is biased against Madden, but it IS a beautiful looking game none the less. Drop all the history and stuff and just look at the game and it looks like it will be good.

$100 says it's more or less the same as it has always been. If I want a "demo" of Madden 2010 I'll just go play the last copy of the game that I bought from 2006.

    @the_blacksword

I agree, I mean it seems dumb that you need to preorder to play the demo, it is just a way for them to drive up sales. Although the flipside is just the same though, if you don't like the demo, you can cancel your preorder so it works just the same, but you should get the demo + something when the game comes out IMHO.

Sports games are never good so why should this one be? They make new every year but there are no changes and well they are very short and not interesting.

having a demo be an incentive to preorder is stupid the whole purpose of a demo is to sell the game not to make people feel better about reserving a copy

Put in Madden 09 and pick quickplay and any team you want, it's the same diff.. I love football but a demo really isn't importand for this game. Surprised they don't give you a code for a GOLD football for online. lol

Everyone continues to bash gamestop but most of you do it just because everyone else does. I laugh at all of you who talk about how you will never shop at gamestop, but the second they have a buy 2 get 1 free sale on all used games you people flock to the store.

@bboysleepy32, Gamestop does let you test out games in a way. You do know that you can bring back any used game you buy within seven days if you do not like it; it says that on the receipt. You can go back on the seventh day after purchase and say "I did not like this game" and they will give you a full refund or a different game. You people are stupid, Gamestop gives deals on games that no other store does.

    Posted Jun 17, 2009 11:54 pm PT

yea i've notice recently that gamestop does rip you off. i'm just gonna stop trading in games altogether; i wish they let you test out any of the games you want to buy like the game store in Pasadena, CA.

thats still not enough incentive to make me go in a store where there is no customer service and all the used games are way too expensive. only 5 bucks off for a newer used game?? take a walk gamestop and keep your piddly little demo.

Bad move EA. Let everyone enjoy that content, and I bet it'll be better for you.

More than likely Gamestop paid them to do this, and unfortunatly it hurts consumers.

I also liked the art book that was given away with the preorder of Knights In The Nightmare.
While the game and gameplay look difficult the artbook is a great addition. Gamestop has being doing a lot of cool promotions also. I liked the Guitar Hero in mall competion they had last summer/fall.Thay also had a lot of free giveaways at that event. Now if only SquareEnix would get with the program and offer promos and incentives for gamers.Atlus has them beat by miles and miles. I also like the special access codes that are sometimes given with preorders.

GameStop has been doing a lot of great work lately.

I noticed that at GameStop if you preorder Halo 3: ODST, you can get a special "token," that is a code allowing you to play as Sgt. Johnson in Halo 3: ODST in the four-player co-op mode!

Being able to have special access to a cool character like Sgt. Johnson is really awesome. This was a smart marketing move on the part of GameStop, because every Halo fan in the world is going to want to preorder Halo 3: ODST from GameStop now.

It only costs $5 to preorder the standard version of Halo 3: ODST, and only $10 to preorder the collector version of Halo 3:ODST that comes with the Halo controller. Both versions include the Sgt. Johnson character to play with, as long as you preorder from GameStop. I placed my preorder last week as soon as I heard about this limited offer.

GOOD FOR THEM. BUT GAMESTOP IS SO EXPENSIVE. MIDNIGHT CLUB LA COST $35 USED AND NEW. GOT IT OVER THE INTERNET FOR $25 U DONT SAVE MONEY WHEN IT COMES 2 USED GAMES AT GAMESTOP.

Seems like a good deal for the retailer. 1 minute quarters really isn't long enough to get a feel for the game.

Interesting enough. My brother would probably be excited, he missed out on the last game.
