What we heard: LucasArts has been keen on reviving its back catalog of late. Next week, the publisher will release an updated version of its classic adventure Secret of Monkey Island on Xbox Live and Valve's PC distribution channel Steam. LucasArts is also targeting Valve's online platform with a host of other titles, ranging from Loom to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure to Star Wars Battlefront II.

Now, LucasArts may be contemplating extending its online distribution focus to all-new titles, as well. Joystiq this week is reporting that it has received a tip from a source within LucasArts claiming the publisher is prepping an all-new side-scrolling adventure game titled Lucidity for release through Xbox Live Arcade.

According to Joystiq's source, Lucidity has a decidedly Psychonauts-like bent, with primary protagonist Sofi navigating a game world that takes place entirely within her subconscious in an effort to rescue her grandmother. Lucidity will reportedly feature a variant on traditional platforming, as Sofi autonomously traverses environments while players drop needed objects in her path.

Joystiq's source offered no other gameplay details and did not specify when the game may see release.

The official story: LucasArts had not returned GameSpot's request for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Would LucasArts skim so close to the concept of its former employee, Double Fine founder and Psychonauts creator Tim Schafer? Certainly possible, but an obligatory "bogus" for now.

I agree, A brand new 'X-Wing vs Tie Fighter' game would potentially be awesome.

See Sega, you guys should have took notes and did what Capcom did with Street Fighter. Keep the 2D formula that worked so great for Sonic and just add HD graphics. If you already got a really fun game just update it to High Def with new 3D models but keep the action as the same 2D fun stuff. We are starting to see a lot of games realize this, such as Shadow Complex, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, King of Fighters, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and now this title from Lucas Arts. Oh how I remember those days of firing up my Genesis and glaring at those beautiful sprites!

I don't understand the love for LucasArts at all... as of late they haven't been up to snuff... The Force Unleashed felt unfinished to me, and Indy?... poor Indy, that Wii game is a lesson in what not to do when making a game...they need to bring their quality level back up overall.

They really don't know what their doing at lucasarts, they keep making Battlefront for the handhelds rather than where it will actually sell well and are liked.

Hell, we need a new X-Wing game though.

BF3 would be nice...but right now I'd settle for an XBL release of BF2. Or either KOTOR.

Well I hope it's good, whatever it is. LucasArts has always struggled tremendously compared to the success of Industrial Light and Magic.

Here's hoping that the updated Secret of Monkey Island might lead to updates of other LA classic adventure titles, like Sam & Max and Full Throttle...

This is good news, but i really wish that instead of going back they would focus on other projects that they still haven't sorted out, such as one game that i and so many people desire: Star Wars Battlefront III. Would an announcement about it really hurt them? If it is really dead they could at least bother to let us know...

Also, when has LucasArts made anything recently that wasn't Star Wars related that actually sold well? I think that Indiana Jones next gen game is cancelled, and really nothing is coming up except more of that awful Clone War cartoon game related stuff.

Would it kill LucasArts to tap into the original trilogy for new games? Some of their best games come from that era (Dark Forces, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Super Star Wars series), but yet they consistently make games for the prequal, all of which are for a quick buck and have no long term, redeeming value.

LucasArts back catalog? Anyone remember Metal Warriors? If that isn't begging for online play, I don't know what classic title is. Replace the split screen mode with that, maybe a few new machines to play with, a few new levels...I'd be locked to my 360 for days...

Why do they do this? Just make Battlefront 3 already! No one wants to play BAttlefront on the PSP cause it sucks! Monkey Island I hear is good, but why won't they make a sequel for the best selling Star Wars game? I would even accept putting the original game for download on XBLA, please!

I would love LucasArts to do some remakes of their older games on XBox Live Arcade. They have some decent classics. LucasArt should do an Anthology for the PS3 and XBox 360. Same way SEGA did with Genesis games.
