Ever since its 1995 breakout hit "Da Funk," French tech-house act Daft Punk has been a fixture in dance clubs and at music festivals. Now, Rolling Stone magazine has revealed that the Paris-based duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter will be appearing in a video game for the first time.

Unsurprisingly, that game will be DJ Hero, Activison's forthcoming turntable-based rhythm game. According to Rolling Stone, Daft Punk will use the game to release 11 exclusive mash-ups of its own tracks with hits from acts like Queen, No Doubt, and Young MC. The pair, who rarely appear in public undisguised, will also let players don their trademark robot helmets and play in venues modeled after their elaborate stage shows (see below).

Daft Punk is the latest high-profile band announced for DJ Hero, which ships October 27 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Wii. They join DJ Jazzy Jeff, Eminem, Jay-Z, DJ Shadow, Tiesto, and Grandmaster Flash on the game, which features and was partially designed by the recently deceased DJ AM.

[UPDATE] Activision has now made it official, releasing the first screenshots of Daft Punk in the DJ Hero game (pictured). It also named eight of the 11 exclusive mixes to be featured in the game:

--Daft Punk "Around the World" vs. Young MC "Bust A Move"
-- Daft Punk "Da Funk" vs. NASA "Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip"
-- Daft Punk "Da Funk" vs. Queen "Another One Bites the Dust"
-- Daft Punk "Robot Rock" vs. Hashim "Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)" Produced and mixed by The Scratch Perverts
-- Daft Punk "Robot Rock" vs. Queen "We Will Rock You"
-- Daft Punk "Short Circuit" vs. Boogie Down Productions "Jack Of Spades"
-- Daft Punk "Technologic" vs. Gary Numan "Cars"
-- Daft Punk "Television Rules The Nation" vs. No Doubt "Hella Good"

    @Intrakitt

    then now you know not to make assumptions, ok? that is all i wanted to say, so just chill. you did what i hoped you would do, and that is not an insult. you got mad at me, like i did you, i showed u that u shouldn't insult people u dont know, u get it?i am sorry if i offended you, but now you know what i meant, ok? just don't make assumptions of people u don't know. ok? no bad blood, just don't do stuff like that. all i wanted to say. you good?

    btw, this is not an insult, but it is OK to type wrong on the internet, just do it to ur comfort.

    Pwned56: You're telling me to go to school? You can't even compose a sentence without a bevy of grammatical errors. Learn to spell and type you illiterate prick.

    You couldn't be more wrong in your assumptions of me. I'm 23, I'm not a high school idiot, I take my own lunch which usually consists of a single fiber bar, and I haven't been home to my parents in years. I go to college every weekday and have a steady 3.5 GPA. I know it's not a 4, but I'm on my 4th year now and some of my classes are pretty difficult (i.e. Micro Biology). Furthermore, I don't own a high horse, nor have I ever been on one.

    Now that I've pretty much laid it all out on the table I suppose that you can judge me, but know this: I don't care what you have to say, nor will I ever care what anyone on the internet has to say because they are not my friends, I do not claim to be friends with them, and I do not know them anymore than the average person walking next to me on the street or in the mall. I believe all of your berating towards me can be directly related to yourself. Maybe you are just insecure? Hmm...that would explain why you care so much about what I say in regards to your stupid comments.

    If someone asks you to dj at their party and your an acualy dj...like with 1210s/cdj's id sugest NOT to turn up with ps3 and DJ hero;p they might be a lil pissed............but if someone asks you and your not the above then yea lol this certainly would make for a funky new party peice!!

    i guess its the same deal with guit hero......not dissing all you guit heros out there......but if you see an ad in the paper or shop window for a band looking for a new guitarist....DONT turn up with ur ps3 and guit hero! lol

    Before I knew Daft Punk was in it, I thought the game would be a rapper game or something like that. Now I'm actually planning to buy it. Daft Punk are the best.

    @Intrakitt
    well, maybe u should just get off ur chair, ask ur mommy to pack a lunch for u, and go to school, so u can learn things besides: slamming ppl who u don't know and didnt do a thing to u, taking ur anger for society out on places where people don't care about ur problems, and being an annoying little kid.be mature
    btw, i pity u, the only "friends" that u have are strangers on a website, and u have to make unnecessary comments that further support the theory that ur mom may have accidentally dropped u as a baby

    its pretty stupid to make comments regarding ppl's fake names instead of the real subject.

    Daft Punk is great, but I don't think they are even DJ's. Yeah they produce some awesome electro-house, but I'm pretty sure they do all Live PA when performing in front of people.

    Daft Punk?! Cannot wait for this!
    Hopefully Musique and Aerodynamic will be in this..this game is going to be huge and if it has some of Tiesto's old tracks like Adagio for Strings and Traffic) maybe even huger. The turntable is a great idea i think

    The game's fine... but it fails EPICALY because of a few things:
    Eminem's on it, which ruined the game
    Jay-Z ruined it EVEN MORE
    and..
    Beatmania got better beats.

    Unless there's freestyle mode in it, and create a song, it would be fine.
    Even Boom Boom Pow on it's own won't save the game.

    "This game will be FAIL! Guitar hero is way better."

    - I doubt it. It looks like a bunch of very well known (and respected) artists got together to make sure that doesn't happen. As well as a recently deceased AM who'll live on through this title.

    I hope it does well.
