Left 4 Dead DLC next week, sequel demo due Oct. 27

Valve's survival horror shooter gains Crash Course add-on Sept. 29; free sampler for sequel on 360, PC 28 days later.

Zombie hunters be advised: The next couple of months are going to be busy. In the lead-up to Left 4 Dead 2's November 17 launch on the Xbox 360 and PC, Valve said today that a demo for the survival-horror shooter will be available to Xbox 360 and PC users on October 27. Further, Valve confirmed that the original Left 4 Dead will be updated with its second batch of downloadable content, titled Crash Course, for the Xbox 360 and PC on September 29.

The clown actually isn't a zombie, but he's probably going to get it anyway.

Details on what gamers can expect from the Left 4 Dead 2 demo were sparse, with a Valve representative confirming for GameSpot that more details will be rolled out as its launch date approaches. However, the Valve rep did say that those who preorder Left 4 Dead 2 through the company's online distribution platform Steam or at participating retailers will be granted advance access to the sampler.

Left 4 Dead's Crash Course DLC is set between the No Mercy and Death Toll maps found in the original game and accommodates single-player, cooperative, and competitive action. Valve notes that the heart of the DLC is the Crash map in Versus mode, which is expected to take 30 minutes to complete.

Crash Course will be offered gratis to PC gamers, though Xbox Live owners will have to drop $7 (MSP 560) on the map pack. Notably, Valve released its first Left 4 Dead add-on, the Survival Pack, in April, giving it away to gamers on both platforms.

    Im just gonna wait till the next LFD comes out. Maybe Valve will persuade Microsoft to give out the DLC for free later. Other wise, im not sold.

    You probably had terrible run of luck. On the 360, at least, people play it properly, and there's no reason that people would act any differently on the PC. Or is there?

    Anyways, can't wait to try this out

    I don't see why u 360 guys get all heck up about $7, u shud be happy that most of ur games get released on time and that they don't keep getting pushed back (AC2 )

    The DLC was released today........but guess what? It was not 560 points as previously advertised but 800 POINTS!! Zombie stomping addict that I am I downloaded it anyway and on the first playthrough the two maps appear to be larger than usual, have more pryotechnics available and more zombies per square yard. I got lost on finale map and bought the farm. It's a fun package, but it is aggravating that MS deemed it appropriate to tag us for 800 points when previously advertised at 560, especially since it appears Valve wanted it to be free. Oh well, I'll just take out my anger on the zombie horde..........

    Seriously, 7$ is not much. Although free is less. But it is not much money to pay. Why are people whining that they have to pay 7$? If you really want the maps then just pay or just use the PC-version. There are solutions, so lame to complain at a forum and tell everyone that it is soo expensive, oh no...7 dollars! Gee, gotta check my bankaccount if I can afford it. Yes I know there might be the issue that PC is getting it for free. Well Steam is Valves own frickin service while XBOX Live is not their service. Maybe it was more expensive to get it on Xbox Live. Nah, whatever, why do people always have to complain about all this? You must be bored. I am bored right now writing this long comment =). Gonna enjoy the free maps ^^

    That's total BS that PC gets it for free and XBL has to pay. What that means for gamers is that MS is going to take your money. Valve obviously wants to deliver for free and MS isn't going to let them. Unfortunately, lots of people are going to buy this and so MS will keep doing things like this over and over again. Vote with your wallets people!

    Versus mode has lost its fun factor to me. In the 5 matches i played yesterday, there was only 1 team that would actually try to make it to the end of the level. Every other team would just sit in the safe room and not open the door for a long time, or open the safe room door and not come out. So matches just drag on for way longer then they need to and it comes down to people not wanting to play as the humans and just waste time.

    i think the point is to bridge the gap in the story between the two games, possibly these survivors bring the zombie disease with them to the south accidently?

    Too late to make us pay for content, especially when L4D2 is coming out in 9 weeks or so. I have waited a year so far for a new coop campaign, so I can definitely wait a few additional weeks. Too late Valve/microsoft, especially charging for x box 360. Shame on your business pratcies

    This is getting old as we already pay $50 a year for Live on top of our internet charge and we are paying $7 for free content. This is rediculous! Yet a ton of people will download and pay for this. I love this game and have it for the 360 and unfortunetly I will not be downloading it for this reason. I am accepting the fact that I am missing out on a portion of the game, but after upgrading and purchasing a $300 elite and then having to shell out $13 for a transfer cable and wait 7-10 days for it I have just had enough. I love my 360 and it is my system of choice, I probably spend 90% of my game time on it. Charging $7 for free content is just where I draw the line. I am sorry if this seems like venting, but I know they are a 4 profit company and they will take this as far as they can. I just hope people will start voting with there wallets so this will slow down. If it were $2.50 instead of $7 I would have bought is and been completely satisfied.

    I wouldn't be surprised if the amount of players online, escalates dramatically (again) over the course of the next few weeks

    Me and a neighbor of mine (hardcore PS3 fanboy by far) were having a discussion regarding various properties that are free on PC and charged for on 360. Now I'm not happy with it but I'm content considering what the competition has to offer. Microsoft knows that they're the king of the hill when it comes to online community interaction with or without games involved. They also know that most people will pay for this content because they do their homework. While some complain about it, most are silently paying for this content because that's how badly they want it and Microsoft understands how demand works. Microsoft has always been getting heckled since the early days of their Windows OS, it's nothing new and it continues to this day. Everyone's an expert but no one really offers a solid solution insinuating that they can do a better job. Also, yes PSN's free but I've said it once and I'll say it again. Xbox Live is better, no sugar-coating, no cushioning, Xbox Live is a better put-together online community hands down. I use PSN from time to time on my PS3 and each time I use it, it makes me more appreciative of Xbox Live's services. No fanboy here, I just give credit where credit's due, doesn't make me a fanboy, I still play games on whatever console has the games I'm interested in at any given time.

    Still only a few campaigns...................Even tho the campaigns were kinda long,I still felt kinda annoyed by the very few maps available to play on.

    @lamprey263 - I agree. Had we seen this 4 or 5 months ago I would have been all over it. Now, I'm going to have to think real hard whether or not to get it because I'm getting L4D2 the day it comes out.

    @ReysonBH Microsoft makes companies charge for stuff all the time when the developer really doesnt want to. It took work for the first L4D DLC to be free on 360.

    Yeah? I might have to get it, I have the first two and am pretty sick of paying another 10 for another zombie level and 3 new maps. Hopefully 3 is the last one.

    As for Crash Course, I think I'll pass. I already like the old and survival maps, I don't need one more for 7 bucks.

    no way i am dropping $65 for valve so called "sequel". i just wait for the mods i have the skins,maps, and almost everything the expansion errr sequel has. It also does not help that i already be playing MW2 by this time.

    WOW. makes me want to invest a bit more money into a PC. Come on Microsoft, didn't you make enough money with ODST? I love the xbox but come on, these are difficult times and just about anything is worth money and more money. Would it kill you to set the DLC for free?
