When Infinity Ward announced the Hardcore and Prestige collector's edition version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last week, many Aussies were concerned that the lack of AU-specific pricing might mean that we wouldn't be seeing a special edition of the game. All that worrying may have been for naught, because according to the official EB Games Australia Twitter account, the Prestige Edition will cost A$199 ($161.28 ) for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of the game.

Interestingly not long after the original post, a new statement saying "Sorry, got waaay too excited!!!! Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition pre-orders will be available in our stores from first thing 2morrow!!!!" went up on the company's official Twitter feed. When asked to confirm the pricing, an Activision Blizzard rep told GameSpot AU that "we don't comment on rumour or speculation".

As for the Hardcore Edition, which comes with a metallic case and an art book, no price was indicated.

The Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 contains the Hardcore Edition of the game, an art book, as well as an MW2-branded pair of night-vision goggles, and a sculpted head to place the goggles on.

Stay tuned to GameSpot AU for any breaking news.

Eb games are selling the standalone game for a s••t load of money.
That's why I'm just gonna buy the prestige. $80 more is hardly anything and you
get nvg's. I have already pre-ordered my copy. Does anyone know for sure if soap's head is in the prestige, cause in the video of
the first box being opened where is the head while everything is still in the box. It looks like all the room is taken up by the nvg's and the game.

    Please respond

I hope the perks for this game is not just to attract us to buy the prestige edition. I 'm a bit worried coz some of the crap game has awesome (yet over priced) perks included but when you actually play the game is not worth-it. Like Tomb Raider, it can still see the special edition in store with the word "ON SALE". Hope this will not happened to MW2. I'm a huge fan of COD series.

I've already pre booked one, can't wait!! EB is selling the standalone game for $120, so an extra $80 for MW2 and the original COD game plus a book and NVG with head I think is worth it if you like that stuff.

Holy Heisenberg!, 200 ****ing $ for a game and toy! if those NVG work, and by work I mean actually see decently in the dark up to 30m, then I'll think about buying it, but thats only if the yanks are paying as much as us for it....

Those are NOT REAL Gen 1, 2 or 3 NVG, those people who thinks they are getting a great bargain should have a closer look at the youtube video aroun 3:16 mark:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMSS12iY1X0

It clearly shows the small infrared emitter to the right and around the lens. This is probably a new iteration of the EyeClops toy goggles which retail around $70USD (although this looks way better then the EyeClops).

If you are thinking about seeing things hundreds of meters away, forget about it. This baby have a max viewing distance of 50 feet which is around 15 meters. (based on EyeClops specification, and I doubt this is much different)

In the end you get what you paid for, a toy, so don't have high expectations of the goggles.

Uhhh, what about the PC? Do us PC gamers get the pleasure of paying for this expensive toy or do we get the pleasure of getting neglected once again?

agreed, eb is overrated. Go and compare their prices with game

@shani_boy101 - Oh yeah, I totally agree, if you really wanted them you could buy much better ones (though under $200 for proper NVGs is a joke) I just think it's awesome that they're giving you something different, something you can actually use (a figurine would be nice too but I wouldn't pay $200 for that :lol

    @Turbo-Evil
a figurine is just a figurine, i know that but why NVG's? instead it could be something thats adds more to the single player, like more missions or something. if i wanted some NVG's i could buy a pair, probably for a bit cheaper, but i see no need to.

That price is pretty good if it is real compared to other Collectors Editions that EB sells. Assassins Creed Black Edition is $149 for example, and at least this way you get something that will be a bit of fun to mess around with.

  • Turbo-Evil

    Posted Jul 20, 2009 2:51 am PT

@shani_boy101 - lol, I think you should get over yourself. The NVGs work, according to Infinity Ward, and for $200 they'd want to. Are you ever going to use a figurine? No, because you can't. It'll just sit on your desk or shelf, collecting dust. Same might go for the NVGs, but at least you can use them if you wanted to.

    @spazmo_69

it would be waaay too hard to get a gun replica, working or not through customs, to have a gun in your house you need it to be in a lockable case with an alarm, even a transformer that turns into a gun was banned until someone appealed to them, and even then after that every single person who wants to get one into the country has to be investigated.

So thats why you can't get a MW2 M4 instead of night vision goggles.

  • shani_boy101

    Posted Jul 20, 2009 2:20 am PT

$200? get over yourself Activision. that's not even fair pricing with the rest of the world. i don't care if there are night goggles or not. would they be real? unlikely. if they were real why or when would i use them? you wouldn't and maybe the first few days.

its like an overpriced souvenir from a theme park. you won't use it or care about it in a few days. maybe you'll go even further next time with an M4 carbine? an invisibility cloak, perhaps? or what about an Ultimate destroyer edition with a full-sized working tank and a nuke?

its a very pointless extra for a special edition. at least for AC2 Black Edition they give us new areas where you re-enact famous events from history, badas s awesome figurine, plus the special edition standard art book. nothing as pointless or over the top as night goggles in sight.

  • Turbo-Evil

    Posted Jul 20, 2009 1:40 am PT

@spacemariens22 - No they're not, they've just been around the longest, and have more stores. As a result they are more popular, though their prices are often absurd. Game is better, of course, but JB Hi-Fi is where it's at.

  • spazmo_69

    Posted Jul 20, 2009 1:27 am PT

they should have a MW2 branded m4 carbine instead of night goggles, or why not both!
