What we heard: Rock Band may have been on of the biggest games of 2007, but Australians still haven't had a chance to play Harmonix's four-player rhythm game thanks to the fact that it hasn't been officially released down under. And while rumours about the imminent release of Rock Band locally have been swirling, it seems there may actually be some movement not on the original game, but on its sequel. Last Thursday, Australia's Classification Board updated its ratings list to include a classification for MTV's Rock Band 2. The game was rated PG, for Parental Guidance, due to "Mild Coarse Language."

Australia's Classification Board often gets to see games before they are released locally--sometimes even before they are announced, as was the case with Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition. Once a game is rated, the CB updates its Web site with the games details, including publisher and rating.

Sadly, just because the game's been rated, that doesn't guarantee that the game will come out. In November of 2006, the CB looked at and classified the original Rock Band, giving it a rating of PG, for "Mild Coarse Language."

The official story: At time of publication, Electronic Art's local arm was unavailable for comment.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that Rock Band 2 has been classified in Australia, clearing it for release; bogus that there's an official release date for it just yet.

XoXGamer4lyfXoX, you fail at English and life in general.

Looks like they won't be releasing RB2 in the near future. All in all it's a pretty cynical attempt by EA to move as many of their old stock as they can in the gaming ghetto that is Australia. If the one-game a year cycle continues, it looks like Australia will NEVER catch up with the rest of the world.

I'm also an American and just because a small percentage of us are a-holes, doesn't mean that everyone here is. But, I'm am sorry for you Aussies missing out on Rock Band. I hope it gets released for you guys one day!

To all Americans who complain the rest of the world stereotypes you as selfish:
XoXGamer4lyfXoX is a prime example of why we still do it, ignorant moron.

So can I buy RB and GH:WT and use the same peripherals for both games??

according to EB games website, RB 1 comes out on the 360 in october at a price of $120 JUST FOR THE GAME. Same month GH:WT comes out at a similar price with the instruments, so RB will pretty much fail. maybe they put it at such a price with no instruments so they could bring it out the same time as GH:WT and instead of people paying $80 just for the game, they make more revenue by charging an extra $40 plus to purchae the instrument bundle seperately which is one guitar one drumset and a mic, will cost you a whopping $290 add the game which means you will pay $400 for RB, definatley not worth the spend since you could buy a wii or xbox for cheaper than that

I don't see why there isn't a release. If they looked at our sales charts - there is always casual titles on top.

If they release RB1 around the same time GH:WT is released, there is no way in hell I'm even considering RB1. But if RB2 is coming, then I'm gonna get both that and GH:WT (1 set of peripherals of course).

This being E.A. - I have a feeling that they are probably never gonna release it here in Australia, if so, the price tag will be extremely high...

I don't know, is it really worth the $350+ price tag?

If you think it is then by all means get it & may you have many-a-fun times with it....

Well think of this way Australian guys: you never had to put up with the piss poor hardware that was in Rock Band 1. You never had to deal with horribly faulty drums or a piece of crap guitar. Now, hopefully, the hardware will be more solid for Rock Band 2, and you won't have nearly as many problems.

Though seriously guys, just get Guitar Hero: World Tour. The overall game and hardware are evolving well beyond what Rock Band 2 is doing this year, and I really do think that it's gonna be the far superior game. I'd recommend you just pick it up instead.

I imported a copy of RB for PS3 and I hope they release RB1 software only and jump straight over to RB2 because the instruments should be superior.

    Cross your fingers folks!

The release of Rock Band in Australia is some kind of joke.

I personally hope Guitar 4 can actually get released down here rather than Rock Band...either way it will test if these extraordinary delays are something to do with the publishers or just something to do with limited marketing prospects/difficulty in marketing in Ausralia.
