KOTOR 3 confirmed?

What we heard: The past 24 hours have been dominated by announcements from EA about its preparations to release Mass Effect on the PC, Spore on September 7, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, and a Burnout sequel. The aforementioned presentation by EA's CEO also revealed that one of the mystery projects of recently acquired Pandemic Studios is a new game based on Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films.

Riccitiello's presentation also appeared to reveal a new game from Pandemic's former corporate twin, BioWare Inc. The same slide as the LOTR revelation had the Canadian studio's development lineup listed as "Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KOTOR, [and a] New MMO."

Many took the mention of "KOTOR" to mean that the studio's recently revealed collaboration with LucasArts is indeed a third installment in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. And since BioWare is now strictly a developer, the listing also implies that the studio has retaken the series' reins after outsourcing 2005's KOTOR II to indie shop Obsidian Entertainment, currently at work on Sega's Aliens role-playing game.

Furthermore, the listing of Bioware's "new MMO" as a separate project from KOTOR gives the impression that the two are different games, and that Bioware Austin's massively multiplayer project might not be a KOTOR MMOG after all.

The official story: Unfortunately, the aforementioned assumptions about BioWare's slate appear to be premature. "The slide in John's presentation is titled 'Best Creative Talent'--it addresses future and past titles," an EA rep cheerfully told GameSpot. "KOTOR, Black, Boogie, Skate, and some other titles on the slide speak to past portfolio releases and the pedigree of the studio, but do not specifically address future sequels. The MMO in development at Bioware Austin is listed as a 'New MMO.' We apologize for any confusion this may have caused."

Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus that the slide is official confirmation of KOTOR 3--or that the BioWare Austin MMOG is not KOTOR MMOG. However, keep in mind that even though the slide does "not specifically address future sequels," EA Games division president Frank Gibeau has already confirmed a new Skate game, and a next-generation Black sequel was revealed in 2006. And if BioWare and LucasArts aren't working on a new KOTOR game--MMOG or not--then what are they working on?

    Cuelex, i agree with you, the hope for KotOR is dwindling but that doesnt mean it wont happen. i like to believe they are trying to surprise us...i know ill sh** my pants if i hear the official news.

    Everywhere i turn, people are calling this KOTOR3. Its nothing like KOTOR. It may have a "memory" of KOTOR (devs say robots and grandchildren of the original games characters will be in the new one) but none of the gameplay, nor ideas. Its an MMO, and just a poor excuse to get more money by subscription. Sadly, the dream of a KOTOR3 is dying.

    Here's for all of you KotOR fans... I love KotOR II, but not yet had a chance to play the first. I will get around to it, and in the meantime, I am a computer science major, learning about programming games, and have already made some minor flash games. If Bioware or anyone else doesn't make KotOR III, I WILL! Have no fear, KotOR III will come! Haha, but that might be 20 years from now, so I'm sure it will be released before I get around to making it myself
    But I definitely agree with a lot of you that if it is an online game, I'm not only going to be angry, but I will not partake in it. I like the stress-free, pick-up-at-your-leisure kind of gameplay the second one was, and I'm sure the first is. Not only that, but as many have mentioned, it needs to be unedited. I will wait another 2 years if necessary, I want an unedited and flowing game, with many more classes that actually mean something, customizable lightsabers, and lightsabers that actually do damage that they are supposed to! If the gameplay simply can't allow you to cut people to pieces, at least mention that the armor has traces of cortosis in it!
    Many other things I would like to see, but I'll stop rambling
    Have no fear, though, KotOR fans... it will live on!

    The new game look ok, but I wish the REAL KOTOR 3 would come out not the mmo. It pisses me off how they're calling it "The Old Republic" when its 300+ yrs after KOTOR 1. At least at E3 they said they were putting in some famous characters, keeping my fingers crossed for an T3 + HK-47 appearance in the mmo. LA should stop screwing around and give us KOTOR 3 rpg and it better be singleplayer and very good maybe even 4 PS3 and Xbox360? I wouldn't really mind playing it on PS3 with good graphics and full VO.

    The three things I'd like to see come from all this

    1. The Old Republic fails miserably...can't stand MMOs and for someone like me who works 10+ hours on a regular basis, married and has two kids, I can't spend every waking moment online trying to build up my character and wouldn't want to, I'm happy getting my hour or three of playing time in whenever possible.
    2. A re-release of the first two KOTORs with updated graphics and complete uncut KOTOR2
    3. Get going with KOTOR 3 already...If EAware or BioArts or whatever Bioware's name is now won't do it, give the project back to Obsidian at least they're willing to take on the project and satisfy us the fans and not screw us over with some lousy parlor trick designed to rob us of our money on a monthly basis

    i hope they do make a single player game, kotor 3 because 1 & 2 was immence on the original xbox. also i think that mmo's are rubbish because u want to do the stuff urself instead of paying so much a month and then only being able to do some things anyway.

    I am with plu2u on this. I am not nor will I ever be a fan of MMO or online games. I would have preferred either (a) make KOTOR 3 for Xbox 360, or (b) go back to KOTOR 2 and re-release it only this time include everything that was left out for time constraints - make it like a "director's cut" version of it. Making the MMO is a BIG letdown for me.

    I FEEL BETRAYED!!!

    If I am wrong to feel this way can someone let me know.

    I am a PC gamer at heart. I am not much into online games so i spend my days playing single player. Now a game that I was looking forward to is entering the Online realm. I felt betrayed and disappointed. Am i wrong to feel this way? Is their anyone else who feels this way? Should I just get over it and accept that single player games seem to be on the way out?

    Maybe someone will say i should get some friends and go online but that is not who I am. I just wanted to put this out there if anyone else feels the same way.

    BIOWARE please make a single player option to KOTOR 3. ( I know I am just one voice but there must be more persons out there who feel the same way.

    HI ALL!I'm new.i just want to say that kotor 3 should absolutely have a single-player game because you have to let the man play and finish it in time not stressed.someone said it and i liked it.Now:
    1.I think it will certainly have because the story must go on!They would ruin everything if they would do it like WOW(i hate wow because of the gameplay) i mean only on multiplayer.
    2.I think that if they would want it to be the best game and attract people, the kottor 3 ending should be like:Exile vs Revan(I'm with the Exile)....of course that if they would think about it i think they would put this fight in Kotor4(if there is going to be one) because they would like us to feel the thrilling and they would want us to buy the game with this kind of ending,they always "torchure" you with this type of action.
    3.I would like that kotor 3 gameplay to be like in jedi academy.I mean if you were to control your character like in JK that would be awesome!WHY?well...think about it...with a gameplay like JK you could show how good you are at playing not pressing boxes that says attack or etc....plus that if they would make kotor 3 multiplayer(MP) it would be great to show your skills on internet not just pressing boxes!!I played JK MP and beaten guys that had modified movements.and i beaten the greatest one just using standard moves from the game(i'm not good on configuring PC i only know how to beat everyone at games that's all) and i got banned because i've beaten him(he was the admin).
    4.Kottor 3 MP:they should make it like Team up thing light vs dark!of course you get to pick favorite character (i'll pick Exile of course) but it would be interesting if they would make on MP character selection CLASSES!!!Oh yeah!!!you now what i mean!Bounty ,jedi,sith and other types of classes BUT don't forget the JK free controling character for awesome skills showing!!! 5.IMPORTANT:Graphics showld be like kotor 2 at least!!AND PLEASE LET it be on PC!!I mean dude its anoying to play such a game with a console!!You have tones of making easier moves with a KEYBOARD and a MOUSE!

    If anyone even looks at this anymore...Well, I really want KoTOR3 to be the best it can be, I am 12 years old and Ive been hoping and praying it would come out soon...I just hope it is like KoTOR1&2...Im going to keep posting up if anyone reads these anymore, but if anyone here knows if it is coming out...post here and please dont lie, I would LOVE to know...Thanks, Love you guys..

    yeah... it is gonna be an MMORPG here's the link if anyone still keeps up with this blog. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Old_Republic i was surprised that they are only considering console versions, when its about the old republic, so it shuld be xbox and pc exclusive. hopefully its a mix between 'star wars : galaxies' and KOTOR because then it would have the personal tie ins with the characters and side quests beautiful graphics plenty to do, and large landscapes And it would have the great online play of galaxies,,,, perhaps different games modes? i dunno, i hope its released soon for xbox 360, as you cant keep kotor fans who dont have great computers without another installment of the series.

    n my opinion, they should not make an MMORPG out of Kotor because it would then make it soo impersonal that players will feel detached from the game (as opposed to the RPG-style).
    1) Tie in the parts from kotor 2 where Carth and Bastilla are still looking for the whereabouts of Revan and even ask the EXILE, who later finds out in the end of the game. Very bad storyline construction, unless they would make that significant in the 3rd installment. 2) Use the planet schematics and examples from kotor 1, because they were much larger than kotor 2 and had more detail to the terrain and beautiful scenery.
    3) Include the Romance part of the storyline, just as it was perfectly tied in to Kotor 1. 4) Add the REAL way to play Pazzak: shifters, randomizers, +/- values, sabbac pot, and card combos such as an idiot's array. The objective is to have face value cards reach 23 not 20. ( described in several star wars books) most notably in Drew Karpyshyn's (lead writer for KOTOR) series: Darth Bane.
    5) More detail to alien species, accents, physical features, quirks, and interaction in storyline
    6) include more level ups and make the specific classes mean something.
    7) add more instances where the main character interacts with the masses of people or individuals that lead to some effect in the storyline or gameplay. More personal side quests/ events that significantly add to the game like working for exchange, hunting down assassins, having a jabba the hutt look-a-like that has more interaction with credits and job opputunities or chances to complete republic contracts for credits.

    Last note: When making the 3rd Installment of Kotor, it doesn't matter if the graphics are top-notch. (though we would love it) It all comes down the the Storyline, how well can you make the plot fluid, connected, exciting, romantic and appealing to fans without ignoring certain rookie errors and misplots in KOTOR 2? If you can successfully create better dialogs with multiple consequences and actions with the storyline, all the while remaining as accurate and professional as possible, you have successfully captured the fans' attention. All you need left to do is hire the skilled graphics developers and artistic developers to produce the most stunning graphics and models of creatures and humans/alien species, along with more beautiful and stunning backgrounds like Manaan and Kashykk (KOTOR1) and publish it. The next step would be to decide what platform to publish it on. I believe that if the game was not xbox 360 - specific, then the guys with bioware would have much more to work with, in terms of space on the disc and graphics development limitations. If Microsoft gets their way and buys the rights to blu-ray then hopefully sony can buy the rights to the KOTOR series and everyone would be happy, especially the Bioware team (to show off their true skills) and the happy Kotor-loving fans.

    Mass Effect trilogy? I mean jesus it was a ok game(thats about) so they going to make two more of them which are guaranteed sales declines after the second one probably bombs yet not make another installment in a incredibly viable franchise that already has massive demand? Lucas must wanna rest star wars or something!

    People keep on talking of how the kotor2 ending was so unfinished and terrible. Unfinished only to those who have finished the game once or many times but have only chosen one ending. I can see how many of you thought it was unfinished when the game stops once you fly into space in search of revan but the game had already risen to a climax and then gone back down once you kill kriea, thats how storylins go if they wanted to persue it further they would have to make a second one. It ends there because that chapter in the exiles life is over. Gone! To start a new stage you would have to start a new game. It would only ruin kotor2 if they tried cramming two plots into one. They do the same in "back to the future" they leave it unfinished, what do you think would happen if they crammed all three of the plots of back to the future into one movie! It would be terrible. The game was unfinished to a certain extent but was not 'bad'.

    If any of you like kotor vidoe games you'll love the comics of them. You get to see Kriea when she is much younger although they call her krynda in it.Thier very good. Some of you may be disappointed though since they dont focus much on revan or malak. But they focus alot on the characters of the second game since very little is explianed about them in the game.

    Could you imagen if EA managed to get mythics rvr idea into this game. Plus more than JUST jedi and sith. Or side profetions, like a Jedi trained bounty hunter ect. & space battles and 'fleets. Make your own fleets with specific intentions, Excuse me if i drag on. lol

    And i agree with LavelleX2 making your own lightsabers would be dong plus more planets. Planet control rvr. lol sorry again XD

    I agree wit shwaaag on what he said also they should add different light saber styles and hilts like a tonfa, whip and nunchuks and make the movements from those styles drastically different from each other. Also maybe they could give you some side missions to do like bounty missions, weapons trading and spice running and the choice to become an outlaw or criminal but still stay into the storyline and not sway away from it or distract you form it, and more planets dantooine is coo but COME ON how much more of a storyline can you squeeze out of it? One more thing I want the academy experience back learning to use the force and a light saber would be off the chain and this is just an idea maybe to be chosen by a master and even have your own apprentice.

    First off, I'm with the rest of you cats, I strongly believe that a third installment of KOTOR is mandatory. However, I'd like to see something a little different out the next KOTOR game than what we've seen previously...

    I think a developer (and hopefully it's Bioware) should try to combine the single and multi-player experience into a unified game experience. I'm not a huge fan of MMO's personally, and while I can definitely understand the appeal of MMO's, I don't have the luxury of spending huge amounts of time online to build up my character(s). Whereas, in a single player game, I can play at my own pace, taking as much time as I need to finish a game. Just something to think about...

    With that said, some things I'd like to see in the next game:

    1. Deeper character creation options. Give us the ability to customize our character as we want! Let us customize our faces, bodies, traits, etc.

    2. Give us more lightsaber customization! I'd like to put together my lightsaber with the Force (as a mini-game maybe?). I want to design my own hilt, imbue my lighsaber with different properties, let me adjust my blade on the fly...MORE CRYSTALS (and possibly combining crystals to create all new ones)!! I loved the fact that different color lightsabers meant different things. Take that idea and expand on it!

    3. Modify the turn-based fight system. While its served its purpose well in the past, I'd like experience a faster, more Jedi-like experience. 4. I feel we could lose the party-system. Have supporting characters that you can interact with to further the storyline, but leave it at that...

    Well, that's all I can remember wishing for when I was playing through both KOTOR games...maybe I should play through them again and get back up on my the soapbox.

    BTW, is anybody else bothered by the fact that a lightsaber doesn't instantly cut somebody, or something, into pieces? I think if an object/person comes in direct contact with a lightsaber blade...the blade should slice through. I mean, I get it, I understand why this probably wouldn't be feasible to reproduce in a game, but man, enemies shouldn't be able to get hit by a lightsaber and not lose any appendages!

    I did not think the second one was a cliff hanger. If you were paying any attention to story you'll find out what happens. Sure it does not go into much detail, that is because it is told from the characters perspective not from some unknown entity showing things for your sake so you know what is going on everywhere.

    Council knows perhaps in the 3rd installment you'll be party to those two Jedi who left to fight unknown threat beyond the Unknown Region.

    Having a new KOTOR has been a fantasy of mine for some time now...
    No other game has matched the feel the KOTOR's gave me...
    Such depth, such "history"...

    I NEED A NEW KOTOR GAME.
    As a 360 owner I pulled out a dusty old box with my old xbox games. Among them I found KOTOR, so I decided to slot it in the tray, and again became immersed in the story I'd nearly forgotten.

    But wouldn't it be sweet if you could not only choose a background, but be able to choose a different race for your character as well (lol a wookie Jedi)

    Obviously theve seen thousands of remarks made by us, websites made by us, so they know that we want a KOTOR 3. so what the hell is holding them back? If i were at bioware corp. i would realease another KOTOR in a heartbeat! And we can all see the changes and modifications needed.
    1. The combat system needs to be changed. the dull marks can be seen by all means. It is too Turned BAsed, if anyone noticed...if anyone saw the technology Unleashed showed off we all know we would like to see some force powers like that 2.It needs to be an MMO, kinda like a wow styled world, where you could go around the different planets and able to kill each other, trade, whatever...
    3.Not all the characters need to be clinging to your feet no matter what you do. If you all could recall the time you were able to kill half your teamates in kotor 1 seemed to be more realistic . Next the worlds need to be much larger scale. 4. The graphics would need to turn up a notch
    5. Loading screens are killin me 6.fix things like when your teamates run around in the backround while you talk...
    7. be able to change how who talk by able to augment your conversations with inflection and acaull actions
    8. being able to play passak, and able to swoop race in Xbox arcade.
    9. being able to choose from different starting characters, EX. JEDI, SITH, ECHANI, MANDILORIAN, SCOUT, AND BOUNTY HUNTER 10. MOST of all we would love to see a significant ammount of different options and endings, different characters, like that mira, hanharr thing they did

    KOTOR 3 Please!! Be careful not to put in too many 'sith lords' etc.. Kotor 1 was significantly superior in storyline to KOTOR 2. You could really FEEL Kotor 1, Kotor 2, I didn't feel that same attachment to the characters. Romance options should definitely be included, but should be build up, and not of the 'hop into bed' type. STORYLINE is everything.

    They should STOP making other games and start working on KOTOR 3 !!!!
    And when they do make KOTOR 3, they should make it very long with many excellent quests, new characters, more interactions, old characters meet new characters, more romance, better landscape, more possibilities, and finally when the game ends... A VERY AWESOME ENDINGS (ALTERATE VERSIONS FOR dark/light) this HAS to be the best game!!!!!!

    rpg... you are an idiot. people were upset with the game because it was unfinished in the most disgusting way. several quest had no end, or if completed no effect on the story, and nearly no overall different ending for being dark/light either. if you've ever seen the cut scenes or even the computer version, the game was indisputably unfinished. and they have already announced a mass effect trilogy.

    Oh ya and to everyone the reason why u were probaly so disapointed w/ the 2nd kotors ending is because u havent thought out what is going to happen in the 3rd very well....seriously the exile and Reven along w/ every other charactor included in 1 and 2 willl "Most likley" all meet up w/ the 1st kotors characters going to light or dark side and 2nd storys charactors going to the opposite side.
