What we heard: This week Sony is holding a Gamers Day, a press-only event that gives the company a chance to show off its upcoming games, and make a few announcements. This Gamers Day is a little more anticipated than most, given that it comes less than a month before Sony the PlayStation 3's November 17 launch in North America, and is expected to answer a number of questions surrounding the machine.

One of those questions is "What games is Sony planning for its digital distribution service?" The answer to that may have leaked out a little early, as a poster on PS3forums by the name of "Elder " appears to have preemptively dumped a slew of Sony screenshots and game details onto the Web.

While Elder's post has new pictures of Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, Full Auto 2: Battlelines, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, the real attraction is the list of "e-Distribution" games. From Sony, there's Blast Factor, Lemmings 2, Go Sudoku, Swizzleblocks, Criminal Crackdown, and the previously announced flOw.

At first glance, Blast Factor appears to be a shooter in the mold of the Xbox Live Arcade games Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved or Mutant Storm. However, the details promise "integral use" of the motion-sensitive Sixaxis controller, noting, "By tilting left and right, gamers can push enemies around the play field, but need to be careful as some might enemies not react as expected."

While the other new games on that list aren't detailed, some information can be gleaned from the screenshots. Go Sudoku is a flashy version of the puzzle phenomenon that includes a multiplayer mode supporting at least four players. Lemmings 2 appears not to be a port of the early '90s PC and console follow-up to the classic puzzle game, but instead an original game with a visual sheen more akin to the Worms series of games.

Finally, Swizzleblocks is a grid-based block puzzle game with a multiplayer mode, and Criminal Crackdown is a complete mystery, with the only information posted being a cartoon drawing of a criminal crook fleeing the police with a bag of money in one hand and the Mona Lisa in the other.

While the third-party games lined up for PS3 e-Distribution weren't detailed or shown in screens, they were named. There's the TV game show Wheel of Fortune, a PS3 version of the PlayStation Portable racer hybrid Gripshift, and Crash Carnage Ciaos, which is either a typo that should read "Crash Carnage Chaos," or perhaps something combining mass destruction and Italian greetings.

The sheer volume of assets in that thread, the number of new screens for existing games, and the fact that Sony has a press event scheduled for this week (always a prime time for leaks) is convincing enough to buy into this one.

    Well it's good to hear that sony is taking that step. I cant wait for the ps1 downloadable games. No more looking for them at ghetto pawn shop for the cheapest price. Also to me ; with the online feature being free that is clearly a notch high then that X-crap 360 live.

    First off, I am all for Sony winning this so called "next-gen" console war. Second I own a 360, and I'm very satisfied with it for now. But I think its time for the money grubbing, monopoly of Microsoft to end. Microsoft was started using the idea's of others. (i.e. apple) Also, What do you all think business is? A group of different companies that all have different products? Hardly anyone is original now a days. Sure we have some break through's but do you think that apple was the first to make an Mp3 player? And yet every Mp3 player is compared to the ipod. Personally I'm glad that apple is finally starting to fight Microsoft, with their innovations. Don't get me wrong, right now, I'm using a Microsoft Os. I'm just sick of this monopoly and Microsoft's "Dynasty".

    In closing, I don't know what everyone is complaining about, this is the best thing that could possibly happen for gamers. Two HUGE companies fighting means great things for us. I still hope sony wins...

    sonys online abillitys will all depend on wether or not they make it just a case of plug and play with there internet connection. the ps2 one stinks and after having the network adapter for 7 months now i have still been unable to play my first online game and i hate that exspecially that even on the sony website there is no help or walkthrough guide to troubleshoot

    well, i'm sure most of you have heard of the term "BITER", well, sony can be labeled as biters. i can understand if a company wants to be innovative and maybe IMPROVE upon something that already exsist, but to copy idea's and just out right rip the idea off, that is lame. can you blame sony for stealing idea's? they have yet to create a successfull format, and they feel the blu ray may fail, so might as well rip off idea's from other competitors. sony is a disgrace and only a SONY FANBOY will tell you different. sony fanboys are brainwashed to think sony makes a quality product. too bad pioneer or some other eliable company made the ps3, i'm pretty sure they would take the time to actually innovate, not DUPLICATE.

    I gotta wonder with sonys online being free and all who expects this dl games to be more expensive than wii and 360's? Second of all they sound like some of them (gripshift) will be full games and sequels making me beileve 20-30 bucks is not out of the question

    mmmm this news is really not tempting me to get a ps3 , the game list looks ridiculous. i will stick to my first choice and get the wii and maybe a ps3 or 360 later. sony tut tut

    I don't think Sony's online strategy is anywhere near as robust or user-friendly as MS', but I have to say the first title AT ALL to tempt me towards PS3 is Lemmings Same as PSP - the only reason I'd buy one is to play Lemmings... why can't they release a high-res remake of Lemmings 2 for PC?!?!?!

    I just did a large survey for Harris Poll that presented several different games and asked whether I would download each one and how much I was willing to pay. Blast Factor and Criminal Crackdown were on the list. So were downloadable cars, tracks, and car skins for a Gran Turismo game.

    I still can't fathom why people like XBL so much. Its not that great. The only thing I have seen that is remotely cool about it is the ability to leave voice messages. Anything to do with the market place costs $5-10, and I love giving microsoft more money for no reason so thats cool. As long as I can play the game online with other people, I could care less how its set up. I never had a problem with individual game servers anyways.

    The only hot games for the PS3 are the ones you will have when it over heats and melts on top of that $3500 TV you bought. Did know the PS3 actually has a PS2 mother board inside so it can play PS1 and PS2 games. I don't know how Sony can claim backward compatability when your playing the old games on the old system in a new box. Seriously the PS3 will get so hot it should carry a warning like toaster ovens do. There are no major titles like pong, pac-man, or hell even classic Tron. WEAK!!!

    Any worries I had about Sonys online plan are gone. This sounds just as good if not better than XBL. (Not trying to start console debates, simply saying I like XBL and I think I will like this just as much.)

    allatyk States: Where's the proof? show me the same game running on Xbox360 and PS3 side by side showing that the 360 can produce better graphics. I'm really interested to see this. I'll wait. My interest stems from reading about Oblivion for PS3 and in a screenshot of a hillside the textures blended smoother on the PS3 than it did at the exact same location on the 360 screenshot. Therefore it looked better on the PS3 version. Granted its a minor thing but still your statement is a pretty bold fact to say without any proof to show it.

    Here is a web site with a discussion on the processing power of the GPU's for both systems, with links to actual tested data. Read through it and you can see that the Xbox360 GPU has the capabilities for more power than the PS3. The PS3 does have a better CPU however the GPU is the part that makes the graphics shine!     everyone needs to realize that xbox fanboys will put down sony and nintendo and any other console that ever rises out to compete with the other companies out there---but sony has made it perfectly clear--they are not and did not rush their next gen console unlike the 360--which was rushed bigtime-- and now xbox360 owners having to get their 360's repaired have to wonder if the360's being made now is any better than the ones on the release day---but to say sony is ripping off xbox360 with downloadable content is out right silly---its just that as times change as well as technology--then new things will be done--what i would like to see from sony--which xbox360 isnt doing is-----well um i wont say --i am emailing sony with my idea and hopefully they will do it and let xbox copy cat off of sony from it.. the only thing new with next gen is the controller scheme for the wii system--but i dont see it lasting---but the xbox360 and the ps3 are both power house machines--both will be more like a hi powered pc than a console---its just the one that took the time working on it and tweaking it fora better system--it will be sony prevailing-- everyone says blue ray discs wont last--but need to realize whether the blu-ray lasts for movies or not---sony will still use the bluray discs for games--- i say let all consoles get on the shelves and kept stocked up for people to buy and lets see who sells the most systems-- which all syatems have their pluses and minuses----true gamers dont choose --they play---i am a true gamer---i got the xbox360--i will have the ps3 and the wii --i love games---i dont hate not one or any of the systems--they will each offer a various amount of gameplay for gamers out there---alike or not alike--lets just play and live on

    yep motion sensing is where gd gaming is at, forget gfx or gameplay gimmie a new controller every generation, and bam the interest will shove itself rite bak up for bs
