EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich predicts Rockstar Games' upcoming open-world game cabable of moving many millions of copies in first year.
Rockstar Games' upcoming open-world action game Grand Theft Auto V is the company's most ambitious project to date, and according to one analyst, that deep investment will be rewarded with strong first-year sales. Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich told Now Gamer recently that he believes the hotly hyped game could sell 25 million or more copies during its first 12 months.
He explained that though the current high-definition game market is "softening" as the existing console cycle comes to a close, the market for big-budget AAA titles like GTAV remains healthy.
"In the case of GTAV, I have little concerns about when it is released," he said. "Whether April, June, or even Winter, I’d expect GTAV to sell in upwards of 25 million copies in its first 12 months."
Rockstar Games last week confirmed GTAV will ship for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 during spring 2013. Preorders for the game opened this week at select retailers in the United States and Europe. The game's second trailer will arrive November 14.

Bold prediction: one of the highest selling game franchises ever will sell lots of copies of its next game.
It is a pretty crazy prediction if you think about it.
Gears of Wars, the entire series, has sold 19 million. This guy thinks V will sell 25 million by itself.
I just hope they don't make it way to realistic like GTA4, I loved GTA 3 but I hated 4 because it lost the arcadey feel to it, was way to realistic and I felt it lost what the series felt like.
The GTA series has always been popular with serial sports gamers, suburban gangster wannabes and urban inner city scum. There's no shortage of any of them, so these sales projections may be spot on.
3 broke sales records. VC broke sales records. SA broke sales records. IV broke sales records. Even IV's DLC broke sales records. Excuse me if don't really think this analyst is going on much of limb by saying V will do the same.
V is looking like the spiritual sucessor to San Andreas - my favorite GTA ... so yeah, given the installed console bases ... 25MM easy!
I know Im gonna Draw a lot of hate for this comment, but I don't like the GTA genre of Games, I tried playing GTA 4 for ahile, but found it completely unsatisfying.
My favourite two developers in the world.. ever..
Both of which are of ridiculous high quality. The fact Naughty Dog have The Last of Us coming out and Rockstar have GTAV due for spring I am one seriously happy gamer right now!
Rockstar could probably release a turd in a box and i'd likely buy it, everything they touch is gold. If the guy says 25 million I'll go with 25 million. Game is going to be perfection!
Wouldn't surprise me I've enjoyed every GTA game, although I prefered San Andreas to 4 4 was still an excellent game that I spent lots of time going through and having fun with. Can't wait for GTA 5
I have been saying all along that GTAV is the most likely game to knock ole' COD off the best seller pedestal. I am not sure if 25 mil is more than the best sell out COD game, if not it's gotta be close. It would put a huge smile on my face if a good game like GTA could put COD out of the #1 spot. I am not one to normally care about this sort of thing, but when a sheepish game like that is the biggest selling entertainment medium of all time, it makes me lose more faith in humanity.
yeah it will easily be a best seller game. everyone loves the GTA franchise and will get it eventually
The idea of a new GTA game excites me. I mean I get a new giant city to roam around in. I get new cars and visuals. I get ........ and then I realize it's gonna be the same game aside from that.... and that I'll just spend my time just killing cops again and again. Unless they brought back the turf wars from San Andreas. I actually really enjoyed that. but it would have to be bigger, More gangs, harder. better AI. sigh wont happen.
I loved the turf wars in San Andreas. It would make me a happy guy if they were to bring something like that back to the game.
@RPG_Fan_I_Am I know what you mean. It's the idea of having a giant city as a playground. Then you realize it's made of cardboard.
San Andreas was the one with most things to do but with GTAV I expect more (not less like we got with IV).
Also with the crappy build quality of this gens consoles I'll stick to PC gaming from now on. There's just no way I'll spend more money on the ps3 hardware at this point. So they better hurry with that PC release if they want me to buy this game.
Lol wonder if these are the same ppl who thought (and based the whole company on) KoA selling 3 mil.
That is obvious that GTA5 is going to sell big, even better, i predict that GTA5 will sell 25 million during the first 6 months that it releases. No need for an analyst to know how much successful GTA5 will be.
I really liked the 3 online co op missions in IV. There was Deal Breaker, Hangmanse NOOSE and Bomb Da Base II. u were the mafia guys together with 3 other ppl and had to get to the ship. Me and my friend would get in the helicopter, give the other 2 random ppl on our team a ride, land the helicopter on a roof of a skyscraper until they got out then FLY AWAY! hahaha then wait 15 seconds to see a message pop up saying "F*** YOU!!!" haha then see "player committed suicide" hahaha my absolute favourite!!
At this stage who the hell cares how well it sells? gods the game isn't even out yet, nobody knows what R* is doing....yeah they'll probably have tons of ways to mess around in the game but how deadly serious is it going to be? because that's what killed GTA IV for me that and the lack of stuff to do outside of dating activities and bowling etc.....
Gods...I really wish I had these people's jobs, sit around and do nothing then make some insane prediction that might never come to pass then get paid, must be a wonderful job....
Hoping they put the extra effort & money into making their music tracks better than the last. Like vice city or san andreas. Then they could have a near perfect game
@beavisj While I really did like the music tracks in GTA IV (David Bowie, Elton John, The Smashing Pumpkins!) I agree that the radio stations do a lot to add to the atmosphere of these games. The most memorable thing about Vice City for me were the music tracks for sure.
@Duke_51 Yes they did have some good tracks. It wasn't all crap. Most stations lacked though. I kinda liked the russian station too
GTA V : Game of the CenturyI'm gonna play this game sooo hard.. you have no idea...Man.... I'm gonna log in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 hours into this game. No joke. I'm gonna play this game until it hurts.
i just hope it beats the COD records because they dont deserve it. COD is trash. other than that i cant wait!!!
