British playwright Michael Lesslie adapting game for silver screen; director and producers still being sought.
The Assassin's Creed movie now has a writer. The Hollywood Reporter reveals New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures have called on British playwright Michael Lesslie to adapt the popular game series for the big screen.
Lesslie penned Prince of Denmark for the theater, a prequel to William Shakespeare's iconic Hamlet. He also wrote a handful of short films, including Skirt and Heavy Metal Drummer.
In addition, New Regency and Ubisoft are still seeking a director and producers for the movie, which could launch as early as later this year.
Michael Fassbender (Shame, Inglourious Basterds) will play the lead role in the film, though other actors for the Assassin's Creed movie have not been announced.
I made a video about this, i do gaming news videos everyday so subscribe people!!! i only have 68 subs lol. Here is the video!! http://youtu.be/uDyKVVkaEKY
I have made a video about this, check it out!! http://youtu.be/uDyKVVkaEKY
@L33BURK32K8 I don't know about that... Shows don't get enough budget. If this movie has a LOT of money thrown at it, and they keep the talent coming in, this might just work!
if this going to take place in modern time? with non-stop action and explosives and with guns and lame dialogue? and a gimmick way to alter historical events?
Might as well give a new writer a chance. The original writers from the game already screwed up the story with AC3 anyway so the bar was already set very low for me. I don't have too much hope for it but who know? Maybe it will be even better than the game itself.
When they will learn, that movies and games tie-ins never work...? Only company that managed to get it right was Disney with " Cars ", Both the game and the movie where great.
It feels weird getting so much early info, without getting much info. We know that it's a movie based on Assassin's Creed and that Michael Fassbender will play the lead...and that's about it. Now they say they have a writer attached too, well, that's simply swell! All you have to do now is to find a way to actually make the movie. You've still got no director or producer and the script will take a while, but hey, you can wait.
! PEOPLE PEOPLE PLEASE STOP ! maybe this can be the guy's big break movie u never know , as a ac fan that has all the games not just main console game, lets just think for a sec ubisoft did not make a deal with sony because they wanted to have "creative control" now i think ubisof would not have made that decision if they did not want to be true to the game. witch i may add was the best selling game of ubisoft OR they wanted all the money, either way if they want more then a good movie has to be made cause video game fans are ruthless.
Oh come on, it wasn't even a week ago I commented on a different film project that was to never be completed. So now we're adding Assassin's Creed to the list?
I've never heard of any of these "movies" written by this guy..... this is going to be one hilarious wanna be.
Oh good, so they have to adapt a game to film using a guy who has to adapt to writing films. This should go swimmingly.
it literally makes me uncomfortable to see any AC related news, we've had so much of it and the last one is worse than it's immediate previous.
I don't see this being released in cinemas such as ODEON or AMC.. this is gonna be Corner House stuff with the time-scale they're planning to release it in
@kik4444 Just watch Event Horizon followed by Aliens and there you have it: a Dead Space movie. :)
prometheus was for the lulz, you still want a science fi movie from him?
@Mega_Loser @kik4444 says the dude who didn't understand the movie, at least Sir Ridley Scott has the balls to take risks and controversies just like Blade Runner and Alien when they came out. Before insulting Ridley Scott, make your own movie first. Prometheus is a great and memorable movie despite it's main flaw (character development), at least it makes you think not like some (Avatar) !!!
@roguebot @BloodyEddy09 well i hate when people talk trash without any mature arguments. When people dislike something, it's fine for me, but to whine and to be immature like a 12 year old cod kid, that's unacceptable !!! And yes in this case i can say "try making your own movie before you criticize" because he's spitting on Ridley Scott's work and i cannot tolerate such behavior. In order to criticize, you need maturity and it's not the case with haters !!!
@BloodyEddy09 I'm a Ridley Scott fan, but I hate it when someone says "try making your own movie before you criticize", as if not having the ability to become a director somehow means you can't criticize.
I'm not a good enough football player to play in the NFL, does that mean I can't yell at the TV when the running back fumbles?
@Yuusha09 yeah dances with wolves in space meets pocahontas meets blue man group
@kik4444 Dead space serie is actually a game universe that would be worth making a movie with.
I wouldn't be so sure about this. On IMDb all of his movies have a rating below 7, so yeah not exactly the cult classic writer you would expect for a game complex as AC. But not all is lost, Michael Fassbender seems like a good choice for a Assassin, if nothing else.
@xUnrationalistx anyway, I'm very septic for an Assassin's Creed movie, most of the video game adaptations are bad. The game itself has an interesting story but it's nothing revolutionary, the characters are simplistic and sometimes stereotypical. However, since i love Micheal Fassbender and the great performances he brought to life (David in Prometheus, Magneto in the last X-men movie, Shame, Hunger...), I'm interested how he will pull it of as Altair !!!
@xUnrationalistx IMDb is flawed and filled with trolls and immature people who whinnes when the movie is too complex for them (Prometheus, most of David Lynch movies) and overate some (Avatar). Even the critics get movies wrong sometimes but i prefer listening to them than the imdb users, like on Rotten Tomatoes
Okay, guys, we're making a movie! All we need is a writer, director, producer, and actors. 'sgonna be a good movie...
@CriticalCritic Haha I know right? I don't have high hopes for this movie..... Actuall, no hopes at all.
Of course. Cash in now Hollywood, then stuff up the series, just like you did with Resident Evil. No thanks.
