Aussie emulation mash-up August 5
The threat from outer space gets quirky this week, thanks to Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.
Winter of Arcade is in the home stretch now, with just two more games due to fall under this promotion's banner. This week brings Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, a delightful game starring a flying saucer. What makes the game so refreshing is its simplistic art style and interesting puzzles that the game presents to players as they guide the extraterrestrial around each level. Unfortunately, the game is hampered by fiddly controls and sometimes poor visual feedback.
The PlayStation Network Store returns to form this week, although it doesn't really bring any brand-new surprises with it. Section 8: Prejudice is the sequel to TimeGate Studio's 2010 sci-fi shooter, and it is a sort of mixture between Tribes and Crysis. For just A$19.95, you'll get both fully fledged single-player and multiplayer modes, which isn't a bad deal. Other older games to come out onto the PSN this week include Modnation Racers and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which were previously only available on disc.
Jumping over to the Nintendo front, the 3DS Virtual Console store brings in Pac-Man. Yep, it's the same game that was released on the Game Boy in the '90s, except that it now has 3D effects. Is that enough to sucker you out of A$4.50? Only you can be the judge of that. The DSiWare store also gets a new game this week, in the form of action role-playing game--The Lost Town: The Dust. Set in a South American town, you play as the survivor of a natural disaster who is rounding up other survivors and fending off attacks from unknown enemies.
