Battlefield 3, FIFA 12 top 10 million sold

after all the noise it made.voted the best over COD which is laughable.it still fails to impress me.back to karkand still failed to impress.my fondest memories will be fault line.that was the ish men!but i will still give this game a shot.

@y3ivan No problem. EA want more money and they're entitled to do whatever they want (in theory). But I expect them to tell the truth and not stories and lies. BUT, and I think that this is a bug issue, when EA stopped selling its titles on Steam, it actually hurts the developers that publish their games through EA. As a publisher, EA should try to sell their games everywhere, and especially in the biggest digital distribution service (Steam). This is also good for us gamers, since competition is always good. But but denying their games from being sold on Steam, EA mainly hurts the developers, and us gamers.

@M-S-M-S a sides, the junk talk EA said. The main reason EA leave steam is because of profit and how steam operates at a close door policy to developers and publishers made EA nervous. Since they own 30% of the AAA titles in market why not create a service themselves rather than giving it to a company to sale which only release 7 titles and a few rip-off titles to date.

Origin is a joke.. no one uses it, EA forces people to sign up after they buy a game... that's it. It's hilariously lame to see them try and tout numbers. The only thing that shows is some strange desperation.

As a big fan of the series, battlefield 3 is a let down. EA, your Origin is a piece of crap. I am tired of being forced to use applications, do the hookie-pookie, dance on one leg, and say a Hail Mary, just so that I can play a game that I own.

How many of Origin's 9.3 million users are using it because it is required to play BF3 and digital SWTOR? How much of that $100 million in sales is from BF3 and SWTOR alone? I think these numbers should be revealed. Without them, I argue that Origin is not a success; it's merely riding the success of a few games. Another game in numbers is the subscription information for SWTOR. EA did not say that the 1.7 million users are paying for AND on playtime beyond their first free month. SWTOR requires all users to subscribe even to use the free month that came the game. Therefore, it's so called "fastest growing MMO" is meaningless since all buyers of the game must also be subscribers for at least one month. If other MMO also did that, some would beat SWTOR in an eye-blink. Without detailed numbers, EA's news is just fluff, and I believe it hides much grimmer numbers. Try harder, EA, when doctoring numbers (or rather releasing them selectively).

@y3ivan I'm sure that not everyone likes Steam. But I think that Steam is the best digital distribution out there. As far as I know, and this is just from what I read on the net, Origin is much more intrusive than Steam, scans your entire system, saves personal data, etc. Something that Steam does, but only with hardware and software specs. Nothing more. Yes, Steam is in some ways a DRM system, but it's the best out there. As for Valve taking a huge chunk of profits, I've read that a lot of indie developers are more than satisfied with Valve and its business model. I'm not sure about bigger publishers. My biggest issue with EA was that instead of saying that they want to compete directly with Steam, that made up all these stories about "direct contact with the costumers", etc. And EA did a lot of other things that convinced me not to like this company a lot. Valve, on the other hand, always seems to be pro-gamers and supports PC gamers. All of them must earn $$$, but EA seems to be out there just for the money. Steam changed the way I buy games. If once I used to buy just 2-3 games per year, today I buy 1-2 gamer per month (mostly on sale) on Steam. To me, Steam did a great thing to PC gaming, which was in some ways in trouble (at least in people's mind. PC gaming is huge). That's more or less my view on things.

@M-S-M-S dude, not everyone like steam. It has problem too like DRM management, and it need to verify data on your PC before you could play offline. Its a huge hassle if you own multiple PCs with constant verification. 1 reason why i feel that origin and gfwl isnt so bad. Also creation of EA origin is very controversial. Some say that, EA wasnt happy with valve/steam treatment and Valve took a huge chunk of the profit out of the digital distribution forcing EA to create there own digital distribution

I'm happy for Bioware and DICE. But since the latest lies that came from EA in regarding the reasons they don't offer their new games on Steam, I'm trying to avoid games published by EA or their Origin service. The lame excuse that they want to be "in direct contact with their costumers" was a joke, since Steam is the best way to do so (just look at Steamworks and Skyrim, as an example). I won't be buying a game on Origin. I prefer to spend my money elsewhere.

Regardless of all the hate for EA. EA does save a lot of developers from bankrupcy during the 2000's. seriously i ll rather have EA in business than Activision. Activision need to learn not to sell rip-off DLC mappacks $15, it has to be free.

It amazes me that companies like EA can stay in business. I swear I see a story like this from them several times a year.

@kkxtrouble you are exactly right about the hollywood part. and that is the worst truth. games used to be made by gamers for gamers. Now games are made by greedy companies for the masses. I wouldnt say we wont see another "mario" agian but yeah it is going to rare. The last red faction was fun, sold pretty well, and got decent reviews. none of that was enough. beucase it did not do as well as the one before it, it is the end of the series! Uncharted is probably the newest orignal characater based IP to come around. Stuff like batman is based on a brand, and stuff like dark souls isnt character based. Even nintendo cant come up with a series. I think Pikman was the last decent one, it seems they gave up on that already. When I was younger I was embarrassed to be a gamer, then it became the cool thing, now it sucks to be a gamer, but for a whole new set of problems and reasons. There will still be good games. but lots of the ones we like, like red faction and saints row, will go away. and then we have stuff some of us cant not stand any more like Madden or COD, and will steal sales from other games we think are better. I am not trying to start a BF vs COD thing, but I dont ever remember C&C and Starcraft hurting things like COD vs BF have. notice one is "and" and one is "vs" that is what changed!

Yeah actually I'm not that surprised.. EA is basically the whore of developers in gaming, they make decent games but they push their advertising far too much than is necessary. All of their sports games also require licensing fees for the clubs, and the racing games for the car manufacturers. It's an expensive business, and they probably didn't help themselves buy trying to own every studio in the world :P

Haha! Battlefield 3 reached 10 million now? I remember the EA guys saying BF3 will take CoD down a notch and then in a few years CoD will be out.

How the heck is EA even making a loss when their games are selling like hot pancakes?

I made BF3 on Game Dev Story and broke records in sales.

I wonder how much EA spend on Mass Effect 3 ads than actually spending it on improving the game. ME3 ads are everywhere.

Battlefield 1942 was amazing and is still fun as hell. BAttlefield 2 drov eme insane with how boring it was and BAd Company 2 i uninstalled after the 5th kick from punkbuster, for no reason. Thus i didnt even bother with Battlefield 3. Matter of fact, played BattleField 1942 the other day, and that game still is miles ahead in fun, interest. Theres no crap RPG upgrading, theres no garbage weapon attachments, no crap 20% armour increases. Its just YOU vs the other guy, whoever aims best wins without any auto-aiming or perks. Its perfect. BF2 ruined the series and Bad Company 2 was fun until booted from Punkbuster. I HOPE CS:GO stays true to Counter Strike yet imporves it, but doesnt ruin the game, like Battlefield has ruined its series with garbage as has Call Of Duty.

Where quality is concerned, BF:BC2 was much much better game, less bugs and overall more polished.

EA just busted their budget on BF3 marketing just to pleasing BF fans. In the end, it only alienate non BF players. I believe FIFA 12 did very well, and its the best soccer game to date.

@inaka_rob The market is just paying for its own expectations, the industry is passing through a rough time, what I expect to see is an incredible decrease in new games and the complete end of less succsessful series. The Crisis hit the gaming market, games are just a luxury, and social-gaming is now taking its share. It has become like hollywood, the name sells, doesn't really matter if the game is good or not, if nothing changes we'll only see new Ips from the console makers , who are the ones that really need them. I guess we won't ever see a new "Mario", or a new "Sonic", we are doomed to recycle the same characters and titles, year after year.I don't see a bright future for gaming, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe we may be seeing the video game bubble burst right now? @kkxtrouble yes video games are expense to make, but they spend almost as much advertising them. 40% of COD MW3 budget went to nothing at all but advertising. FAR too great games sell poorly becuase they companies dont put enough into advertising. there are too many games out there plain and simple. it used to be word of mouth, and video game magazines. Now there are TOO many gamers. yeah I said it. because there are so many sheepels who play games, to sell one you have to advertise, advertise, advertise, that is how it works in the land of sheepels. You dont need big budjets to make great games. but now so many sheepeles play games they have to make flashy over priced blockbuster crap games to market to them. Just look at xmas. it used to be like 15% of the market for games, not its like 60%. becuase its a marketing dream for sheepeles. gamers have been forgten and left in the dust for sheepels easy money, and when games suffer the sheepeles move onto the next things while the true gamers suffer.

They could have saved 200 million or more in advertising by not aggressively tyring to destroy Activision Blizzard Inc's COD. I mean, they had a tv show with Clay Matthews, Drew Brees, Jared Allen, and Larry Fitzgerald pretending to play real life Bf3 (NFL stars aren't cheap, unless it is charity work). It was the stupidest thing I have ever seen, but somehow it was supposed to sell copies of BF3? I don't know, call me crazy, but I think that BF2 and BC2 were successful enough to only announce BF3 on Xplay, E3, and CES to have it do really well. FIFA and Madden sell themselves, but they were advertised heavily too (madden particularly). I know that advertising helps, but when you have already established game franchises, less is more. Costco doesn't advertise almost at all. Ever been in there? Busy as an airport. Cut advertising costs EA. It is that simple.

@shakensparco Several do sure but Madden (American Football) in kind of like our Fifa. We get a new one every year and not much changes. I hate madden though but I'm think about trying Fifa. I currently live in the UK and Blockbuster has Fifa 10 for 99p and Fifa 11 for like 2 pounds.

@gamebreakerz__ Games are expensive to make, they buy way too many companies, they make a lot of non-profitable games, they have many employees, they have to pay for propaganda... it goes on as you can imagine.

EA needs to stop buying expensive developers. That is their problem.

@shakensparco It sold about 1,5 M in North America, it's safe to say that not all of those sales were in Canada and Mexico, so yeah, people buy it there.

I am brave. I do not fear the aftermath from this comment. Fifa 12 sucks. I own fifa10 and fifa12, am pretty good too so that's not a reason. I will never understand why fifa games are rated so highly, 7/10 not 9/10

BF3 is such a good game. Deserves the sales that's for sure. I have it for both the 360 and PS3.

Not bad. Normally, I'm a MW3 fan but I bought BF3 for half price during a holiday doorbuster sale and I wasn't disappointed. It's a good game! Hopefully, now EA will release a good NBA game this year.
