The multiplayer will only be good if people are online . I have 3G and thats expensive . Sometimes your in a place you dont get wifi , so that game without a decent campaign could become worthless to buy. The online play could be limited to 3 or 4 people teams at best and that no fun. Both sides camping out with no one to kill because the board is so small
Nihilistic CEO Robert Huebner says new Call of Duty for PS Vita not about "big campaign" or "huge cinematics," but rather "multiplayer essence."
The Call of Duty series has long been known for its sprawling campaigns and cinematic scenes, but upcoming PlayStation Vita game Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified does not place the same emphasis on those ideas.
Nihilistic Software's CEO Robert Huebner recently told the Activision-run One of Swords blog that though Declassified will leverage the design of past Call of Duty games, it will focus on multiplayer above all else.
"Declassified is not about the big campaign storyline and huge cinematics, it’s more focused on the multiplayer essence of Call of Duty and bringing that to a portable device as completely as possible," Huebner said.
Huebner added that Nihilistic's aim for Black Ops Declassified was not to design a game that fans would perceive as a port of a past or current Call of Duty title. Instead, the developer sought to craft a "tailored experience" for the PS Vita that delves into the history of memorable Black Ops characters like Frank Woods and Alex Mason.
Well for the next game I'm sure everyone would like these game modes.
Search And Destroy - Hardcore Search and Destroy
Teamdeath Match - Hardcore Teamdeath Match
Headquarters - Hardcore Headquarters
Free For All
Capture the Flag - Hardcore Capture the Flag
Maybe Zombies or Survival MW3 style or Both :)

I still remember the first time i played COD 1 , the thing that i was impressed was the campaign itself and i never player its multiplayer until COD3, where is the good old times?
they should have made campaign twice times bigger than the Multiplayer then i will be able to think about buying this game....at this point they should have known that many people don't play COD for Multiplayer already....
"it will focus on multiplayer above all else"
I'm sorry, but how is that ANY different to any CoD game of the past 4 years? CoD : Modern Warfare had an OK length, barely. Each game since then has reduced and reduced the single player, leaving sheep to spend £60 on what is effectively an annually updated multiplayer only game.... it's just not worth that amount of cash.
i'm not slating cod on the vita but uncharted (a different game i'm aware) was fkn awesome, so how did naughty dog get it right yet the gamer giant activision clearly haven't, maybe its cos the team that developed resistance on the vita have been given the cod task , resistance felt a little flat and something was lacking. im dubious about this, the vita needs this to be s seller so it needs to be good. Fingers crossed
Every bit of news about this game makes it sound poorer and poorer. Glad there's other Vita games to look forward to this month.
I honestly don't know why they still have a single player campaign in COD. Just take out the 5 hours and imply it in the multiplayer since it's all you care about. Hardly anyone cares about the single player joke.
Less content? It's Call Of Duty, as long as there's the big logo 9-year-olds everywhere will buy it.
its better if they focused on multipalyer because what else will you do when story is finished. so they should have a addicting multiplayer
Not about big campaign? No huge cinematics!? More multiplayer focused!? No! You must be lying! What has this world come to when CoD has a short story and focuses more on multiplayer!?
@Cillah187 sadly thats the industry now with the internet being faster, back in the day unless you had a pc it wasnt really heard of, i think the dreamcast had limited online play, even ps2. I must admit i havent played any of the new cod single player.
$50 bucks for a watered down Vita game. No big campaign, 4v4 mp and what little graphics they've shown look pretty underwhelming. Uncharted Golden Abyss showed graphically and campaign wise what the Vita is capable of. This is just a crappy and hopefully failed attempt to cash in on the COD name brand. This game will be terrible.
no thanks.. wasn't really buying it anyway, but now i know i can keep my distance for sure with it only really being MP...
@KBFloYd Why would they do that - just like FIFA 2013 (Vita) its best not to do it so the dummies buy it before someone like GS gives it a nice 5/10. Was annoyed with Konami for not doing PES Vita, but it seems for now it was the right choice.
i really wanted this to be great. now i might not even buy it. might be one of the first games that ill listen to the reviewer before deciding if i want to buy this
This is exactly how EA spinned Medal of Honor Heroes on the PSP, it didn't work out so well. People were not happy with that series until the second game, nobody really wants multiplayer focused handheld games.
Activision people should not be busy doing scummy EA style trolling of their own property's fanbases.
I stopped buying COD a few years ago, so I say Sayonara to COD9 : BO2 before it arrives. The MP is dull, people concentrate on Kill/Death Ratios more than team gameplay, the running around maps got old as well.
I know the new kids didn't get enough, but I've been with the series since COD, and before that when it was MOH.
Still, for those fans that dig it, here's a handheld version of their fave game.
Black Ops concentrating on multiplayer?A Call of Duty game... concentrating on multiplayer?
It is basically a nice way of saying, "we know the game is going to suck so we will put a nice spin on it to entice the simpletons out there to buy it anyway. Afterall it IS Call of Duty."
@ztron370 I did have a bit of fun with MGS: Portable Ops+ before the online was shutdown. Though the fact than 90% of the ppl that played it years after release were all using hacks in matches ruined it for me then. [And the controls were a little awkward but workable =p]
Too bad focus on multi-player doesn't mean focus on quality, forgive me for being so skeptical but after Burning Skies? Yeaahhh not really excited for this one.
These guys aren't fooling anyone. Saying "they aren't focused on cinematics and a big campaign" means that the singke player is garbage, and we've already seen how awful the multiplayer looks (wow, 8 players!), so Nihilistic, just admit that this will be a shitty game and spare us.
"Call of Duty series has long been known for its sprawling campaigns and cinematic scenes" you mean USED TO BE known for it's sprawling campaigns and cinematic scenes. Apart from a couple of cool missions like the Chernobyl flashback the campaigns are forgettable shooting galleries. I'll take CoD 1's levels like crossing the Volga over any new Call of Duty levels any day.
4 vs 4 is kinda weak for a game ''focused on multiplayer''. You would think they would up that to at least 6 vs 6.
Actually admitting that you're NOT focusing on single player in a COD game basically equals a 4 minute campaign. 3 minutes to cinematically drive to a location (god forbid you'd drive the jeep yourself), then 1 minute to rescue a hostage. Game over.
Now try it on Veteran mode!!!
I'm not a big CoD fan, only recently got into it because of Survival Mode in MW3.
I'd pick this up if it had Survival Mode & Zombies together, with or without a Campaign, frankly.
I dont mind focused multiplayer. The 3 hour campaign would have not justified it for me!!! At least I can do mission online and play against others. Yes yes it sucks that it is only 4V4 over WIFI but its a start =) I for one would not play cod games anymore, I have stopped since blackops and noticed its worse than a monthly payment. Its either your buying map packs or a whole new COD every year =)
I am glad this is coming out on the VITA tho, it might boost sales!!! but what would really boost sales is a PS vits bundles with COD and 8GIG, special vita color to be army color and Baam sales arise!!
And this is exactly why I'm not buying it. No campaign, no money from me. This "multiplayer with bots" single player mode they're trying to sell us on is garbage. I couldn't care less about the multiplayer, so this game is useless to me. PASS.
"[Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified's] more focused on the multiplayer essence of Call of Duty and bringing that to a portable device as completely as possible..."
So we can expect 15 dollar DLC map packs with 2-3 recycled maps, teens bragging about their "uber leet skillz," and players named XxXB345T_M0D3XxX camping a corner for an entire match?
That sound wonderful.
"The Call of Duty series has long been known for its sprawling campaigns" Um really? Last "sprawling" Call of Duty was CoD 2 and 3, who's C*** is Gamespot trying to suck with that nonsense? CoD is nothing but a 3 hour campaign anymore, and lame multiplayer. "Declassified is not about the big campaign storyline and huge cinematics, it?s more focused on the multiplayer" Thats not just Declassified, that's every CoD now days. Aside from the cinematics, every CoD game is nothing but multiplayer and a worthless 3 hour campaign. And all you little kiddies will gobble it up, its sad how most people in this world are so easily fleeced these days, especially us Americans. Enjoy your 3 hour 60.00 romp, I'll stick with real games, not casual games that should be on facebook.....ya know its Coming, CoD-ville, oh yeah and you all will just eat it up. Idiots.
I don't want to be "That guy" but isn't the game 4 vs. 4 wifi only? If the emphasis was multiplayer you would think there would be at least 5 vs. 5. I wonder if it will have Ad-Hoc capabilities too unlike some multiplayer games. I'm looking at you Little Big Planet Vita.
