Black Ops II Amazon's most preordered game ever

Treyarch's upcoming Call of Duty game "shatters" previous record held by last year's Modern Warfare 3.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is Amazon's most preordered game in the online retailer's history, the company announced today. According to a company representative, Black Ops II dethroned Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for the top spot, "shattering" that game's record.

Amazon did not provide any further insight into how much more successful the preorder campaign for Black Ops II has been compared to Modern Warfare 3. The company was not immediately available for comment.

Not only is Black Ops II Amazon's most preordered game ever, it is also on pace to become GameStop's biggest launch in the speciality retailer's history. GameStop president Tony Bartel said last month, "We are seeing the highest pre-orders in history. With its current pace, this Call of Duty is on track to break records and is likely to be our biggest game launch of all time."

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is due out tomorrow across the world for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. It is a sequel to 2010's original Black Ops, which is the best-selling series entry to date, moving more than 25 million copies as of August 2011. A Wii U release will follow day-and-date with the system on November 18, with a PlayStation Vita game Black Ops Declassified also shipping November 13.

You people keep saying that tons of people keep bashing etc. yes people on these sites do, but do you have any idea of HOW BIG that number of people is, to you when people keep bashing COD on this site, it seems like alot, but compared to the general number of people that play that stupid game. The number of haters is very small. I went to my lil 14 year old cousins birthday, there was like 20 of his friends. All pretending to play COD, ya its that lame lol, they took anything they found, bottles and kept pretending they were playing cod, and saying head shot? lmao i was really entertained i must admit hahaha. When i told them how bad the game was and why, and the evil practices that company lays out, they seemed to look me like i was from another planet.

My point is this, you may think everyone hates COD since all you see is alot of hate for it, but not everyone is on these sites, trolling away. The haters are but a small spec even if to you it seems like EVERYONE hates cod, trust me, for every 1 person that hates this game there are probably another 10 that enjoy it. You people really need to stop its not gona stop, no matter how much hatin you do. And no i do not like cod, never have and never will.

Like many other things, hype will always be there, wether its games, music, movies etc.  People wan't cash, and these companies will do anything to herd in the sheeps to this cess pool of a game.

Like i said, you see these boards flooded with hate, and think EVERYONE hates cod still it sells, well the sad truth is simple, you are in a minority, a big one, not all them losers that love the game hang out on these sites.  Simple as that.

@Gatts1978 You state the harsh truth, when I read comments here on the site, it's clearly that we are talking to ourselves while there are millions out there who will buy the game.

@Gatts1978 Think about what you just said... A bunch of 14 year olds pretending to play COD.

Why do these 14 year olds even know what COD is? Who is buying it for them? There lies the real problem... Activision making money off the youth, and parents not caring enough to get in the way.

COD breaking records is merely a symptom of a bigger problem in society.

@Gatts1978 If you want INFERIOR games like cod i say more power to you i dont have anything against it (i wont lie sp story is nice but its for one game and not three), but the thing is that cod, when it sells like hot cakes it gives the dev the permission to make such games withous any improvement or just copy paste (the point is to have everything better, not just graphics or gameplay).

Then others will follow since it makes money without any effort and we will have copies over and over again.

I don't like anymore amazon, has going to fancy on Wii U lately. I would have dislike them happening to any console. But i'm pretty sure they will fully support PS4 and nextbox.

it's sad that the gaming industry lives solely on giving people mindless straightforward competitive multiplayer that even our grandmas can pick up and play.  Some industries tried to innovate, like the two batman games , TES ( TES was in production for almost 4 years if im not mistaken ) , demon souls and dark souls, Bioshock. heck , even dishonored did some innovation.

i'm sure that These games were overlooked by at least 65% of the PS3 / XBOX/ PC community , since they dont provide you with your straightforward easy to play, multiplayer from the very moment you pop your disk in for the first time.  Storytelling, Solo play, and even production quality and originality  is starting to fade from the gaming industry, since it wont have record breaking sells like A COD game has.

It still bothers me that , after more than half a decade later, the SAME freaking game  being released every year, still gets sold like this.  (dont get me wrong, I Loved the first Call of duty, at least it had a decent story).

I guess that it's safe to say that , COD is the new Farmville.    There's still hope in the PC/xbox market  , where more and more indie games are being made each day  (imagine it as the re-living of the early NES period, when many companies started making games with their own ideas in it). Indie games are also getting more sophisticated , no longer does an indie game have to be a 2D sprited or vectorized looking game.  There are plenty of 3D , beautiful to look at indie games, with a good story, and with the best game engines being easily acessed  ( Unreal engine Cry engine and such).

i predict that the future of indie games is going to be a bright one.

This can only be bad news for the gaming industry. More companies trying to recreate a CoD feel to their games with games like Resident Evil being caught in the crossfire.

Innovation lives, but only just. I soon believe all games will be on - rails shooters with a true enphasis on marketing to children and hyping multiplayer.

M3o5nster
M3o5nster

@1234ritchie Yup, RE6 and MOH get low scores for being like COD. Then the new COD comes out and reviewers forget about the old ones.

i sense a disturbance in the force of free markets, like a million gamer voices screamed at once and then were silent...

something is wrong with the world when the same old crap keeps turning on a wheel of hype. even the 12 yo fanboys will be admitting the game sucks after two weeks. yet it makes profit

all i hear on these forums is how cheap the whole thing has become, but out there... in the real world... people are actually buying this.

Isn't Call of Duty the same as that over used marketing in the form of Far Cry 3? When the guy tries to apply impressive err not so much logic to tell us the definition of insanity is *drum roll* doing the same thing over and over.

BestJinjo
BestJinjo

@LazyyAmerican You obviously didn't get the context! In this case, the sane person would stop buying the same product when they are far superior alternatives. The "insanity" from my part was directed towards the same drone consumers who keep buying the same game over and over and over and I was hoping it would be different and gamers would mature over time from this over-milked franchise. I guess most of us gamers who started gaming 20+ years ago have underestimated the OCD generation of noobs.

@GamerMani I used Starcraft because they other guy had rated it in his gamespot page. I need some context to go from where he was coming at on his COD=Virginity comments.

BestJinjo
BestJinjo

@Sgthombre To add to my previous post, you may hate strategy games, but if we compare COD to other great FPS titles, it's terrible. The campaign is scripted, there is no thinking, it's not a learning/sandbox experience. COD is like the old corridor shooters with just better graphics and we have long graduated from that type of gameplay. Even those old shooters like Doom and Quake were more complex. If Doom was done today:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4yIxUOWrtw

Sgthombre
Sgthombre

@BestJinjo Oh, and your posts are full of fail because all of your attempts to belittle me were based on false pretenses. You assumed that I was some casual gamer who only ever played COD and thinks it's the greatest game ever. All you had to due was look at my emblem. How many hardcore COD fanboys have the Vault Dweller from Fallout 1 as their gamespot emblem?

Sgthombre
Sgthombre

@BestJinjo I just picked a game that you had rated. Hell, I could've picked Goldeneye 007, but Starcraft was higher on the page. And as far as "ruining the gaming industry".... for the love of God stop whining. What, because call of duty exists are there no games that you enjoy coming out? None at all?

BestJinjo
BestJinjo

@Sgthombre How are my posts full of fail? Compared to other FPS games, COD has not innovated. I still don't understand how the comparison to SC even makes sense (other than the Geeky reference). SC1 is not released annually. SC does not have DLC. SC does not have a 5-6 hour SP campaign. SC is among the best games in its respective genres, COD is not among the best games in its respective genre. SC requires you to think to win, COD does not. Carry on though defending COD, missing the entire point of my posts regarding the game stagnating the FPS genre and ruining the gaming industry.

 @BestJinjo

!. I have played Starcraft (I've always found it to be completely overrated. It's not even Blizzard's best work. I would play Warcraft over it everytime) I was just pointing out how idiotic it is to be like "Oh, the players of game X will be virgins forever, but we players of game Y won't be!"

2. I've played every game you mentioned minus Chronicles of Riddick. BioShock is in my top 3 favorite games. But they're completely different experiences from COD tonally and gameplay wise. I have no issues with that

3. Love strategy games. Personally they're my favorite genre. Command and Conquer, Total War, Company of Heroes being among my favorites within the genre.

4. Your posts are full of fail.

BestJinjo
BestJinjo like.author.displayName 1 Like

@Sgthombre Is that a serious comparison? You actually have to think and manage units in a strategy game. Have you ever played Starcraft 1 or 2? You can't just go " guns blazing" mindlessly "knifing" everything and expect to win. Do you realize the Starcraft universe actually has characters and a story that's not all over the place. It's coherent at least. Also, do you see a new SC game every 12 months? Are you serious?COD was actually a very good series in the past. Go play the original Medal of Honor, Half Life 1 /2 , Bioshock, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay, and then go play COD and tell me you how it compares to those other FPS titles.

BestJinjo
BestJinjo

@towny_  @Sgthombre You guys can't take a joke? All the other points I made regarding:1) Linear campaign2) Lack of innovation in gameplay/graphics3) The same game is rehashed since 2007 annually4) DLC milking content5) Hand-holding, health regenerationAll these things still apply to the modern COD franchise. It sends a message to other developers that they don't need to design a next generation game engine with realistic AI or physics effects, or a campaign that is actually challenging and makes you think, etc. Because of COD, other developers are trying to make games that are similarly 'dumbed-down'. The COD formula has already ruined many FPS titles such as MOH and Crysis, because other franchises are trying to desperately copy COD instead of aiming to be unique.

Replace "Black Ops 2" with "Modern Warfare 3" and "Modern Warfare 3" with "Black Ops" and you have this same article from last year. Heck, "Modern Warfare 4" over "Black Ops 2" and "Black Ops 2" over "Modern Warfare 3" and you'll have next year's article.
