Black Ops II nets $500 million in 24 hours

Why is this game popular exactly? I have never played any COD , (scouts honour )not into FPS but its strange because I cannot seem to pinpoint why its huge it seems like evey other FPS game out there, can someone enlighten me.

see for people that play Cod and nothing but cod year after year (I know they are out there because I have them on my friends list) this is incredible news but for the true gamers out who play a wide games for a number of years this is the worst news you could hear. example Medal of honor warfighter bonifide Cod clone. another example 

Resident Evil 6 going from scary survival horror to explosive micheal bay action game. this is not good for the gaming industry. every game will soon be like cod.

Might get this when the price goes down a bit.

 @MirkoS77 People are born with survival instinct. People are born with a desire to socialize. People like things they can relate to. Therefore, FPS, multiplayer, and realistic warfare. There are many other reasons why it's a success but this is the big picture.

this series isnt ending anytime soon with these sales. CoD is going to continue making a crapload of money for putting out recycled garbage. i feel sorry for companies that actually take time on their games and make it really good and dont get nearly as much sales as this. I think one of the big reasons people buy CoD is because of friends

God this depresses me.  I've nothing against this type of game nor of those who enjoy playing it, but knowing the further impact it's going to have on the industry is just saddening.  HALF A BILLION DOLLARS in a day.  Think about that.  That is an astonishing amount, I've never seen anything in my life that has approached that kind of revenue in a 24 hr. period for a single product.  Activision must be swimming in cash like Mr. Mcduck, laughing all the while.

What am I missing with these games?  What makes them so enjoyable to the point they bring in that ridiculous amount of $$$ in such a short time-frame?  It is incredibly dull and mindless entertainment.  Don't people enjoy putting some thought and patience into games nowadays?  

I enjoyed CoD when it first arrived on the scene.  I don't blame it directly for the detrimental impact and influence it's having on the rest of the industry (that lies with the devs who copy it....who can blame them?), but it is indirectly responsible, and for that, I heavily resent it.

I don't wish death to any gaming franchise, but I can't help feel that I'd be a tad grateful if CoD disappeared tomorrow.  It has run its course, and we'd be seeing more innovation, experimentation, and originality if it were not so successful.

Well is a solid shooter after all not great and not terrible either but the real downside in this game (franchise) is the horrible community which in my opinion is the worst in the planet after the WoW, LoL , BF3 and SF4 communities.

Numbers like that from a company like EA are simply that, just numbers, they're meant to be propaganda for potential investors, nothing more.  I'm waiting for end of fiscal year when EA posts their net losses based on their stupidity.  Other than that, Black Ops is a popular IP and this was an expected  turnout, we're in the era of recycled FPS games, much like the 80's was the era of recycled SHMUPS and the later part of the 90's were the era of recycle RTS games.  Innovation only lasted a little while at the first half of the 2000s when small and mid-sized studios reigned, before the millennial wall street collapse and prior to EA-like conglomerates.

wow 500 millon is 24,  brag some more about this scrap. just another hand and a gun game swing from right to left. everytime I seen this COD shit they brag about oh how they sell and blah blah. well like most say here if they sell they will keep making this scrap. its like a whole mess of lemmings following each other to go off a cliff. just keep falling off the cliff year after year for the same shit.

further, to all you modern gamers - you know who you are.  You never played Quake or Unreal Tournament, your daddy told you how great Diablo 1 was, Raynor is a shaving accessory, you never used a paperclip in the original playstation to run pirated software, and system shock is something that happens to your fat assess after 58 hours str8 of WoW online.   you know who you are and you SUCK!!!  you are the addiction generation.  You don't play games for diversity, creativity, originality.  You play the same effing crap every damn day.  Yah you fat boy - the kid with no friends but 9 level 80 WoW characters and 23000 hours of CoD online.  you miserable human excrement have ruined gaming for EVERYONE!!!

thanks to the 10 million gamers that ponied up the $500 million to ensure we continue getting recycled multiplayer and 5 hour campaigns regurgitated yearly in our mouth like from a mother bird.  We are now certain to be subject to more CoD cloning, persistently stale fps genre garbage and an utter lack of innovation in gaming for the foreseable future.  to hell with all you lemmings and thanks for nothing!!!  idiots

Still haven't picked up my copy, I will eventually, mainly for the co op stuff. I really don't get online in the multiplayer vs matches in the COD series anymore. It's either full of 10 - 14 year olds shouting crazy insults, or full of people who have been playing it non stop, and found out every glitch, cheat, and best camping spots to take advantage of, therefore I get destroyed repeatedly. Not fun for this old gamer. Granted I need to step my game up, but I seem to also do a lot better in the BF series. Now I recently picked up Halo 4 and that game is really deserving of the attention. This time the hype is actually warranted.

How is that Treyarch that actually makes the good CoDs is unable to sell as much as Infinity Ward who makes crap like modern warfare 3/

 @Spiritwolf99 You wouldn't even have your pathetic, boring, out-dated, repetitive, piece of garbage Call of Duty if it weren't for Halo revolutionizing the FPS on consoles. Heck, if it weren't for Halo, the online gaming you know would be crap, or not exist at all. So i think it's fait to say that Halo is and always will be a FAR superior franchise than Call of Duty. And Halo 4 once again re-defined games with story telling, graphics, audio, etc. And Black Ops just put out the same game for the sixth year in a row. Don't talk like you know what you're saying until you know the facts. And that goes for everyone.

There ya go, Activision officially saying that Call of Duty will come out every single year over and over again. Until it dies like Guitar Hero. Gamers are so sad these days. I'll be waiting for the day CoD bites the dust and I will rejoice

Top 10 best selling games on PS4 and Xbox next: Call of Duty. The dumbing down of the gaming race has reached mainstream. Soon, all games will be COD and Fifa only. 

Can't wait for Black Ops 10 in 2030! At least we'll have Modern Warfare 4-10 and Black Ops 3-9 to keep us busy.

It's nice seeing all the haters come out of the woodwork for this. I don't like Call of Duty, but you people need to get over yourselves. People obviously enjoy these games. If you don't, don't buy it. But don't whine like little babies every time the masses like something that you don't.

As I've pointed out in numerous posts, money talks. As long as people are willing to purchase these games year after year, they will keep getting made.

But most important of all.....BUY SOMETHING ELSE! You're the same people who whine about CoD and then likely don't support unique or inspired games. To reiterate: Money talks!

Personally, I feel great when I buy games like Dragon Quest, Pokemon, Mario, and Sonic because those are the games I enjoy. And I am going to enjoy them whether someone else hates them or not.
