Publisher asking gamers what they think company should be doing in the digital space, cautions that nothing is guaranteed.
Capcom is asking fans to weigh in on where they believe the publisher should be heading in the digital space. Capcom senior vice president Christian Svensson explained through the Capcom-Unity blog that the publisher has its own ideas as to its digital future, but also wants to hear from fans.
The Capcom survey includes questions regarding the publisher's most iconic franchises including Bionic Commando, Street Fighter, Mega Man, and Okami. It asks if gamers would be interested in straight ports of classic titles, high-definition remakes, franchise reboots, franchise extensions, and entirely new game universes.
The survey also asks what price point is most attractive to gamers for future digital games, scaling from $10 to $40.
Svensson cautioned that the results of the survey are in no way a guarantee of future products, but said the data will be a factor in Capcom's decision process moving forward. Svensson will share the compiled data after the holidays with teams in Japan, he said.
Wait. Capcom is asking fans what they want them to do? I must have slipped and fell into a parallel universe.
Hey Capcom. We need more half ***ed games where you break it up in little pieces and charge like hundred dollars for stuff that should already be in the game. We also need more versions of pretty much the same game. I am being sarcastic.
If anyone is wondering about Megaman. I believe the issues with it lie solely in Capcom Japan. The other region executives embrace the blue bomber but spite from Megamans creator and lack of faith from the Japanese section could be whats holding the series back
I mean the president of the US Capcom believes in him. However they do not handle the game development of megaman.
if capcom goes digital the only thing i would suggest is make it to were u can re downlode anything u ever bought for free...because if u have to re buy every game u ever bought digitally in case something happens and u lose all your game memory...well that would be more than just a simple pain in the ass
The only digital titles I'm looking forward to from Capcom are Capcom vs Snk 2(hopefully with online). and maybe even Megaman Legends 2 (Since I never played that game).
If games go digital I believe they should be cheaper. There's no reason why a a game costs 60 online with no box art or disc.
But wait...where are they going to hide the on disk "DLC" when there's no disk to hide it on? I don't think they've thought this through :(
bring back some games thats rightfully for everyone! Where's my Monster Hunter For VITA!!!! Oh ya... and if you can, pls make patches for your fighting games instead of... you know, a whole new disc to buy. Capcom's fighting games are awesome but sometimes, they just wanted to burn the world.
im all for hd remakes and ports of resident evil 1-3 remade and the gamecube ports of REmake and zero. but in hd of course. no one wants standard def
If they cared what fans thought we would be playing Breath of Fire XV right now. All they need to do is go back and actually read what people have been saying in their forums for YEARS to know the answers to that.
Yeah right, suddenly Capcom cares what gamer's think?Guess they're running low on our $ to use as TP so they'll print those responses and improvise, hope they get papercuts..but seriously they don't care, probably just a way to test the waters with the pricing for their digital BS(re-releasing? C'mon!),this is a revolution I don't see lasting, the double-dip recession is around the corner, hello Capcom, anyone home?
Capcom surveys fans about what they want then throw them out the window immediately after and continue to do more things that only make money and run gamers favorite franchises into the ground.
A gime like Mario smash brothers online would be great because anyone can get in and have fun where you don't have to do 30 combos to win . Something similar to the powerstone game but with all the capcom characters bringing their special tricks into the game
@V-Mack I think you meant Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale not Smash Brothers. Smash Bros was a rip-off of PASBR.
Bring back samanoske in onimusha 5, continue devil may cry with the original Dante and Virgil working together as demon hunters together, bring back snk vs capcom 4, give us a new fighting game franchise where we can do beautiful combos and even finishers with fast pace 3d action where we can rumble around the surrounding area like dead or alive.
we need the real resident evil games back RE1, RE2, RE3, RE0, RECV if the one who made Resident evil 4, 5 and 6 still working in the company please capcom kick him out of the company and bring back the old guy who did the real Resident evil games for us
"Thanks for completing this survey. Now create your own?it's free, quick & easy!"
I didn't complete any survey, what a fail this link is.
I know this might not be the place to say this but Capcom please add Karin Kanzuki to your next fighting game this is something I've been wanting for some time now.
Here's an idea CAPCOM, stop making a mockery of your most successful franchises, stop treating Mega Man like your retarded cousin for whom you stole a makeshift present and gave it to him because you forgot his birthday, despite him being the reason of your resounding success.
AND STOP WITH THE DLC BULLSHIT!!
Well, I would love Onimusha 1-3, and Viewtiful Joe to be re-released in HD with the same detail and care as Okami's HD port, which is one of THE best of its kind since the Ico and Shadow Collection. As for sequels, Power Stone would be fantastic. Reboot RE to it's beginnings (crate pushing and all, even), and... Well, as everyone here as stated, don't lock any content that should be in there in the first place, and make DLC as a supplement to the core game, not a necessity. *sends an extra copy of this comment to Santa Claus just to make sure*
Heres how you do it capcom,if you really care....make COMPLETE games, don't build games as a platform for DLC...make a whole game,THEN figure out how to add on to it,then charge a reasonable price for said game, and people will buy it. if you take the business model that you've been using, half games, half DLC,and people realize they're paying 100+ bucks for one game, you will fail...very simple.
Trying to placate all the angry fans they've ticked off in the last few years. Based on their track record, I'd say it's up in the air if they actually listen.
@TrueProphecy22 I think this is a last ditch effort on Capcom's part. I think almost all their major releases for the past year or so have fallen way below expectations for sales and they have to see the growing rage in their fans.
Fans are fed up with the on disk DLC and the mockery they have turned a number of their franchises into. The Street Fighter x Mega Man game was a nice gesture, but its far from any thing meaningful until Capcom really proves they are going to listen to their fans and not try to milk things.
They treat their fans right and they will get the sales they want, but until Capcom proves otherwise this my view for the time being:
@TrueProphecy22 Pretty sure they see their sales lower and start to lighten up on how fans are the major part of their sales. Maybe if they didnt change EVERYTHING that made what capcom was well they would still be as big today.
The only thing I want from Capcom is Monster Hunter on PC.
It's been far far too long since the series has existed without a PC version. (Instead they put it on casual handhelds, wtf?!)
@DAOWAce Hmm I do love monster hunter and was waiting for it since the original on Ps2. I still don't forget them for forcing japan dev's to update their ps3 program to accept trophies ( I really don't give a fOck about trophies so I respect japans not to update their version of ps3 as ours) I just want my monster hunter and play it on my big tv and lay back in my couch. No I dont want to buy a nintendo home console. But pc ? I don't think monster hunter would need to go on pc unless they would re-invent the series and make it so much more dramatic and less cartoonish. To tell you the truth I liked the "survival" aspect of the game ( carve your food out of flesh and cook it, hunt, persuade and trap the monsters, craft, sleep at camps...Though they never pushed it further as to climb with hooks ropes and assurance techniques for the respect of the actual dangers of climbing...you know, more severe, tough techniques where you need co-op unless you're a pro!
Also since they added swim and dive I find It very stupid to fight monsters underwater. they make the beasts look ridiculous to beat them in their element. I mean a ship battle or a whole fleet to pull and drag that beast out so everyone can either harpoon it's arse or bring it on earth and beat it up.I feel the games lack ingenuity from the devs and the players to proove they have some when playing.
What would be cool about the PC version would be mods made out of the games if they'd actually also make it to PC.In my honest opinion, If I was a dev I'd make my game available on all platforms, and bring war to the console wars because if there was only one super powered ingeneered console, we all be happy.
This "Survey" should be about which game series to bring back? i seriously want onimusha 5 or megaman x9
Capcom have done so great HD makeovers on digital Dowmloads Streetfighter third strike Marvel vs Capcom orgins the For-coming Vampire ressurection is looking great hopeful they will do the same with Streetfighter alpha 3 well deserved of an HD make-over & a fourth but an Capcom vs SNk download bundle would be great millionire & capcom vs SNK2 would be SWEET!!!!!!!
I don't mind downloading games on my PC. The problem with digital sales on consoles is that once you buy the game, then it's tied to that console, or at best to consoles from that particular manufacturer. If you decide you don't want to buy Microsoft's next console there's no way you can transfer your games to your PS4.
@Dr_Corndog you still cant transfer a physical game from your xbox to PS3 so I dont get your judgement. Games they are planing to sell digitally are all ports of old-school classics or HD remake of old-school classics. These has always been sold through digital and I wouldnt pay 10$ extra just cause they have to crerate a box + manual for these old games to be sold in stores.
