Civilization V DLC giving rise to Korea

Firaxis' latest $5 add-on for turn-based strategy game adds reign of Sejong the Great on August 1; new Ancient World Wonders pack also due.

Civilizations may come and go, but for the fifth installment in Firaxis' turn-based strategy, they just keep coming. Today, 2K Games said Korea's Chosun Dynasty will be the subject of Firaxis' latest add-on for Civilization V, joining other such postrelease additions as Babylon, Denmark, Polynesia, and Mongolia on August 11.

Firaxis has placed Sejong the Great (1397-1450 AD) as the ruling figure atop the Korean civilization. The fourth king of the Chosun Dynasty, Sejong is credited for fostering the creation of Korea's written language, as well as expanding the country's boundaries through an emphasis on public welfare, science, and technology.

To highlight the Korean dynasty, players can engage in the Samurai Invasion of Korea scenario. It posits the invasion of Korea by Japanese warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and players will be able to defend their turf using Sejong's Turtle Ships and Hwach'a artillery.

Along with the Korean expansion, Firaxis is releasing a new Ancient World Scenario Pack on August 11. The pack introduces three new ancient wonders: the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Statue of Zeus, and the Temple of Artemis.

The Korea add-on and Wonders of the Ancient World Scenario Pack run for $4.99 each. Alternatively, gamers can pick up both packs at once for $7.49. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Civilization V.

Tom Magrino has covered the games industry since 2006. He's been compared to Steve Martin by Ozzy Osbourne and Daniel Craig by Tim Schafer. His voice, heard largely on GameSpot's podcast, recalls that of Kermit the Frog. It ain't easy bein' Magreen.

I get 20 civilizations for $50 and yet I pay $5 for just one extra civ and a scenario. Even at $7.50 for two it is a rip off. I hope they just release 2 expansion packs with everything included.

Way to milk more, yuh greedy pricks. There's more more DLC for this then Fallout, and it's pretty frustrating TBH.

Sad times... All that sort of stuff used to be given for free... So little content for that price is outrageous.

Agreed. I'll wait for the Christmas Steam sale, where all these DLCs will be offered for 50% off. :D

You only get 3 wonders for $5?! I'll definitely wait for a steam sale before picking either of these up.
