GameSpot's commenting system gets a major update.
Exciting news! We'll be taking down the old commenting system and replacing it with a new one this morning at 11am PT. Some of the major improvements you'll immediately notice include the following:
- Threading functionality. Respond to other people’s comments to carry on a discussion.
- Instant Notifications . If you are scrolled to the top of the page, you'll receive a notification if someone replied to a comment of yours. You also receive this same notification when you "follow" a conversation and you happen to visit that specific page today or at a later time.
- Option to Follow Conversations. Members using the @ sign + USERNAME will no longer receive a PM notification. In order to receive updates you must follow a conversation.
- Who is subscribed to the page. Clicking the “follow conversation” option will have your avatar displayed on the top of the page.
- Others are watching the page! You can now see how many other people are reading or watching the shows where it displays the number of users "listening".
- Social Capabilities. While logged into Facebook Connect or Twitter, you can now share the page with friends on Twitter or Facebook by using the @ symbol in the comments. They will receive a notification about being mentioned. You will have to login via the prompt to grant this functionality. You can also share a user's comment via Twitter or Facebook by clicking the SHARE option.
- Positive Ratings. Comments no longer have negative ratings that will hide your posts.
- Change Notification Settings. To ensure that you receive timely notifications about content in the comments or if you’d like to disable it, you’ll need to go to the Fuse settings located here. Scroll to the options near the bottom of the page and change them to your preferences. IMPORTANT: If you do not change these settings you should expect to see a flood of notifications via Fuse.
- How to Report Abuse. If you are curious about what we'll moderate in the comments, drop by the Moderation Clarification Station.
Jody Robinson's vocabulary consists mainly of first person shooters because of her Quake roots. She's also rather fond of RTS and MMO games.
How about that...the comments are STILL not restored and its been 2 months. I am seriously starting to get sick of this site. I can't even post my blog without manually deleting and reinserting apostrophes unless I want a jumble of incomprehensible symbols. Fix your effing site!

That's a wonderful way of not committing to doing anything. Sweeten them up with bringing back a few recent commets then hope they forget about the 99.9% of comments that they're missing. And if none ever return then obviously they're simply around the corner as they're being done in accordance to an imaginary schedule known only to to those who are aware that it does not exist.
Without public committment to a public implementation plan then obviously no one can complain because the imaginary plan is still obviously being followed, and no one can be held accountable for not doing what they promised because the next set of comments being brought back will always be being done "over time".

For all the bloggers here this is a huge huge concern. Hope this actually happens. Any idea on the time frame of the old comments showing up again?
1 Like @Gelugon_baat You need to stop harrasing members, and slamming dudes? you are real a sick person, have some self respect and try to get yourself some serious help.
I'm thinking so many things right now, but reading all the comments and blogs that are appearing all over this site, I think the answer to the question is obvious. We can all rave about how long we've been here and how much we love it, but let's face it, we are the community. We can all move onto something else and it won't make a difference to anyone or we can sit tight and wait it out, those are the only choices.
I think it is clear that public opinion make no difference on this matter, so there's no point in getting upset. Since the website revamp from last year, there is no question in my mind about what value any of us have to The Suit and his friends. It is what it is.

@The-Apostle According to the meeting that I've had with livefyre they plan on bringing in this feature, they didn't however share where it fell on their road map.
3 Like Not loving the new system. It's a speed bump, it feels bloated, and it does have that "let's tie everything to social networking" reek to it. I get that change can be good, but I also know better than to assume it's always good. This seems like one of those cases where fine-tuning things would have been preferable to what's been done now. Not my site or my call, but that is my opinion, for whatever that's worth.
Gamespot's look and feel seem sorely diminished by this redesign. It also makes me worry a little about whatever comes next
The exchange between Gelugon_baat and matastig should be all the reason you need for the thumbs up/down to come back. The comments are going to devolve into back and forth off-topic posting.

That comment i wrote is related to the new changes on this site and it's natural to complain when you lose the ability to view comments, yours on the other hand: 1. is reflecting your bad ?personal? nature because it has nothing to do with what I said before or with the whole subject. 2. You just admitted that you?ve been trolling me the same time I got a PM from a friend saying: (it?s copy/paste ) Ahhh .. good ol Gelugon the Baat.. Just ignore the (something i erased) .. he's the internet's biggest troll and he feeds on arguements so just ignore him ..

Livefyre features most be blocked in some countries (or the Port they're using ) and in order to view the comment or the comment editor is to use a Proxy client (like i'm doing right now)
we asked to stop trolls of give us the right to disable the thumbing system like the staff do, not to use a broken service hosted on another server or website, we asked millions of time to fix the site's basics like uploading pics, or videos and one did anything about it, so really this new comment system is meant for us? or it's just another kind of business to the site's owner?
it's ok no need to reply to my comment (it's way to keep my dignity because i know how you ignore your members on this websites and i already posted lots of threads and blogs and tagged you and others on the Fuse but no reply ) it's ok , and honestly we got used to this kind of disrespect so no worries.

I have just written an editorial that represents how me and a large group of bloggers feel about this comment system .
I know you won't care when our small group leaves this site .. but hey , at least I'll have done all I can do before leaving .
Sorry if this is a bitter comment but I've been here for 3 years and there are some glitches that are even older than that , that were promised to be fixed .. a soapbox that is in "working on it" limbo but not really cause we know you don't care ... and tons of other stuff . So yeah .

Because you've replied to every comment on this article, in support of any and all changes, and defamed and dressed down anyone who has said anything against GS. I'm just not sure what your role is here and I'm not sure you're allowing people to voice their opinions, which it is our right to do. What I love, is should you reply to my comment, I'll never know unless I come back here ;)
1 Like @Gelugon_baat yeah, but don't you get you're just antagonising everyone here? This situation is tense and you're constant badgering of everyone is unhelpful, to put it nicely. If you reply to every comment on a discussion, what point are you making? And when you do reply, what do you think we're seeing? I think my view (and everyone elses) of your incessant comments and yours are grossly different. I wish you would take a step back and allow the discussion to progress without your commentary.
I've often learned that when you're angry, it is important to think before saying something, and I think you're taking a personal, vested interest against other members that is making this situation worse. Slamming people isn't going to make your point any more salient. I think somewhere you know that and I wish you'd take the high road. Just because you can say something doesn't mean you should or that you're saying anything of value. Poking people isn't going to help this situation.

2 Like There are other ways of saying I like/agree dislike/or don't agree with a comment and that is by posting so. Hehehe Hell of a programmer you have... to be able to include the best features from websites as Twitter and Discus. I'm impressed.

Okay so now I dislike the new comment system more than before. You can't even edit comments now and your overall post count does not go up from these comments anymore.
1 Like Forum post count went up from commenting due to a glitch, it stopped updating the separate comment count in your profile.
@TAMKFan I think that the overall quality of a post counts more than anything else when posting in forums. Posting a lot does not leave a good mark.
Well at least you all did a better job of implementing Livefyre's commenting system than Joystiq did.....y'all need to give them some advice.
Seriously I was nervous before I signed in thinking I had to go through some long drawn out signup process. Speaking of commenting will our post count still remain the same?

It's a cool system, but right now there are still multiple issues to be fixed. I hope it will happen soon, cause admittedly I do really like the new design of the commenting system, as well as some of it's features.
Where's my dislike button? I should be able to choose whether I like or dislike a comment. Please bring back the dislike option. I do like the threading tho, it keeps things organized.

6 Like Some of us enjoy not having every single social networking site tied together. I don't want everything I type being spread to every other site I have a profile on. It doesn't look like this does that automatically (yet), but it looks like it's heading that way.
