Distinctions between this and Battlefield 3. Counter Strike always provide hella fun? creative multiplayer maps. Hopefully customizable maps are allowed in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as it has in the past. All Battlefield 3 got is just gorgeous graphics.
Valve confirms downloadable Hidden Path-developed entry in shooter series will miss its early 2012 release window.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive missed its original beta testing window, and the shooter is similarly skipping its planned early 2012 release.
Speaking with Kotaku yesterday, Valve spokesperson Doug Lombardi confirmed that the downloadable first-person shooter is now scheduled for a summer launch on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Mac.
When it arrives, Global Offensive will feature new game modes, weapons, maps, and characters for the franchise. Additionally, gamers will be able to fight on updated versions of original Counter-Strike maps (including de_dust), and Global Offensive will support matchmaking and leaderboards.
The Counter-Strike franchise has sold more than 25 million units in a little over 12 years. Global Offensive is currently in development at Valve Software and Hidden Path Entertainment, which also codeveloped 2004's Counter-Strike: Source.
@ littleghostie I wouldn't be so sure. bf3stats.com indicates PS3 has the most players online (compared to PC and 360) for BF3 which has historically been a PC driven game. I've never played any of the Counter Strike games having always been a console player so I can't wait to check this out being a huge Valve fan.
I was excited until they droped the cross-platform. Since i dont own a pc strong enough to play mp and chances are nobody will be playing this on ps3 ill be counting this one out.
@littleghostie yeah i hate when they take a pc exclusive and take it to ps3 and 360...just look at crysis 2, it was a watered down version of the original, PC only, crysis game since they had to retard it up so that it could run on consoles...ps3 and 360 only got 512mb of video memory so they will obviously bring down the pc version to be on the consoles level...otherwise it would just be a separate game all together
I still can't see this game doing so well. The problem with this game is that the realistic lethality in the game will have new players will be begging for a cover system. And it's clear that Valve won't be adding that. IF they did add one, CS veterans would make negative comparisons with Gears of War. Also, those who are wise would not buy the game at all if they want to see Half-Life 2 Episode 3. As long as Valve is turning a sizable profit, they'll know that they can get away with not making Episode 3.
@flashn00b uhh why would they compare it to Gears of War, the least realistic shooter with a cover system, and not compare it to rainbow six, the most realistic shooter with a cover system? some people say stupid things out of ignorance...you might as well compare this game to halo you idiot...i mean they both have guns right, so why not make that comparison? stupid kids
@hella_epic lol...bro are u trying to be funny or u just didn't know that Valve already nixed the cross-platform system...
Thank the game gods. I have so many games to play, I just can't take another one right now. Summer, I should be good to go!
I'm really not all that excited for this game I have a hard getting excited about a game that is soley multiplayer with no sp campaign at all.
How much of my youth I wasted playing CS... *sigh*, Just kidding, soon it'll be time to waste some more. >D
I'll wait as long as it takes. I just wonder how many of the original maps are going to be supported because I sure do miss some cs_office....
@Philly1uper are you calling me a console gamer? LOL you deff never seen me post before on almost every news possible each day of the year. Im probly the biggest anti-console elitist ever and only game on PC. I also doubt they do ''very well'' with that god damn rehashed game since I already know quite a bunch of people that will gladly pass on this to stick to the great game BF3 is. seriously theres NO way I purchase any future FPS game except if they go beyond what BF3 does. and Im pretty sure I wont see that in a longgggg time (yes that means merging both AMAZING realistic graphics with addictive, diversified and intense gameplay). EVerything the game above wont have. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXZftZ-rkok + its insane gameplay? anytime.
this is what happened after hearing that he gabe newell was the 850 richest person on planet with a net worth of 1.5 bln, gabe newell basically ordered all of valve team to count that cash again thus leading to this delay...
Awesome, I just wish we could at least be able to use iron sites instead of hip shooting but oh well.
i hope this new Counter-Strike game beats out COD as im so sick of COD and shooters but can make an exception for Counter-Strike as its Valve and thay were one of the first to do fps games online and do em right and Valves not full of them self pff Infinity Ward/Activision and on a side not plz make half life 3 some day soon ty
A Valve games was pushed back and this is news? I freakin love Valve but everyone knows there games always get pushed back. It's common knowledge lol.
@Philly1UPer Don't get me wrong, I understand how BF as a series has changed the FPS genre. However, the destruction of buildings and environments was first implemented into the Red Faction series (as you mentioned) before making its Battlefield debut in Bad Company 2. Now obviously Bad Company 2 doesn't have the expansiveness of a "traditional" Battlefield game, but the level of destruction it offered at the time was unprecedented. Again, BF3 truly is a great game, but I see it more as advancing the series rather than advancing the genre.
Yeah I think summer may be too early for this game. Either way, I'm cool with them taking their time on this.
@GamerOuTLaWz YOu totally forgot to mention the new maps that Valve has talked about a lot. That's ok though. I'd be pissed too if I was console gamer and was getting charged for stuff that is already on the game disc.
@X_Colbert_X What has Battlefield 3 done to improve and advance the FPS genre? Much like Red Faction, Destructible environments that forces opposing players to actually change their tactics up so they can't just sit around and camp all day for one. I love me some Counter Strike. more then BF and CoD but to say BF3 or the series in general hasn't done anything new like other FPS's is just wrong.
@GamerOuTLaWz I'm sorry, but what exactly has Battlefield 3 done to improve and advance the FPS genre? I mean, yes it is a great game, but I wouldn't say it actually accomplishes anything that advances the genre as a whole. The fact is Valve consistently delivers high quality, polished, fantastic titles that are supported well beyond their release date--there are very few developers you can say the same thing about.
looks like source modded with better graphics. then people cry for CoD games where they add zombies and extra mods? I swear this world sometimes. anyway,BF3 2011s GOTY
@scout7 You should actually have all the L4D1 maps on your L4D2 already. Valve said if 2000 people beat cold stream beta in a certain amount of time, all the L4D1 maps would be available to everyone and that goal was reached in like, 2 hours.
why would you play this? LOL enjoy your rehashed De_dust2. Seriously BF3 is such a incredible improvement in FPS games and you should as well enjoy CQ expension pack thats coming in june.
take as much time as you need Valve. This will be better then CoD and hopefully open peoples eyes up some.
I am pleased, it shows they want to make CS:GO perfect and amazing before we get tucked in. Yes i would like it before but i'm happy with the overall wait and looking forward to it. Make it amazing Valve, dont let us down lol.
I want my cold stream and l4d1 map pack DLC to be done. That beta started March 2011. I think it comes out at the end of this month. Maybe...
The CS:Go beta still needs a lot of work, map and item decals, weapon and map layout balancing. Open beta hasn't even started...Summer or Oct 4th seems too early in Valve Time. :(
@X_Colbert_X you forgot to add of the following year which means Summer 2012 =October 4th 2013 just in time for my 22nd birthday :P
