Producer Mike Read confirms mystery partnership with Mario maker, says first-person shooter sequel could land on new console.
Crysis 3 may find its way to Nintendo's first high-definition console, the Wii U. Speaking to CVG, Crytek producer Mike Read confirmed a mystery partnership with Nintendo and said a Wii U version of the new shooter is potentially in the cards.
"I wouldn't say there's no chance," he said. "I mean the Wii U still doesn't have any kind of release [date] attached to it at this point. Who knows what the future will bring with it. I can definitely say that we are working with Nintendo, and that's about all I can say on that front."
This news runs against the grain of what Crytek director of creative development Rasmus Hoejengaard said in May. At the time, the developer said there was "not a fat chance" that Crysis 3 would ship for the Wii U.
Crysis 3 is a first-person shooter set in 2047 New York that casts players as Prophet, a supersoldier seeking vengeance. The game is due out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in February 2013. For more on Crysis 3, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
Ugh, don't waste the money on development for it. Let nintendo (Home) consoles die, they only serve as homebrew machines anyway.
sure nintendo home consoles gets hack easily, so do sony and microsoft. maybe they should just cancel sony and microsoft version and wait for the Wii U, since is coming with 50% or more everything the 2 other consoles.
TO ALL COMMENTERS: Anybody who claims that the Wii U will have graphics capability similar to a high-end PC has apparently never played games on a high-end PC.
The nVidia GTX 690 moves polygons like nothing I've ever seen, but it costs about $1,000. (That's just the card, not the entire computer.) You mean to tell me that Nintendo has figured out how to get that sort of performance in a small console that will likely cost about $250 to $300? C'mon...
Again I refer you to this article:http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/batman-arkham-city-graphics-breakdown-and-performance-guide/#1
Keep in mind that this was written about a two-year-old videogame using last year's video cards. The difference between 2012 video cards and current-gen consoles is even more stark.
PS -- Please note that I'm not dissing anybody's console. I love console gaming. But comparing the two from a pure technology standpoint is like comparing a 747 to an F-15.
@theKSMM I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you for providing relevant articles and worthwhile points. Not enough people do such a thing, and I for one simply appreciate it.
@theKSMM Only 10 years olds claim that. But it's also only 10 year olds who think the Wii U is less powerful than 360 and PS3.
This game is to edgy for Nintendo. It doesnt appeal to their audience of toddlers and elderly gamers.
@EzcapeTheFate Which is why Mad World was one of the goriest and bloodiest games of ALL last generation on all 3 systems? Which is why Nintendo themselves are publishing the rather gory Ninja Gaiden 3? Which is why games like No More Heroes , Resident Evil 4 wii edition , Dead Space Extraction , Dead Rising *CHOP Till you drop* all games well known for their gore. Or House of the Dead Overkill which actually held a record for some of the most language in any game. *Ding ding ding* We have a winner! Talking the most s### that you know the least about! Want a prize?
@moviequest14 He said audience, not game ratings, or esrb ratings.
@moviequest14 just because those games are available for that console doesn't mean it will appeal to Nintendo's fan base, and what jokes are you talking about
@essbigboss No offense but.... you think these jokes are gonna help? Actually , it's entirely possible to change your reputation in a generation. People , including the base comment and seemingly yourself , act as though there was no Nintendo before wii and there'll be nothing but more of the exact same. But when you look back over all the years you'll see nothing but massive changes in almost every aspect. We went from seeing Sony have ps1 and ps2 systems that , while having many adult games , had a massive audience including ''kiddies'' to the ps3 which has a very small respective young audience... or MS which went from being a ''hardcore only'' system , partially because it didn't have an awful lot of exclusive titles in general , to the 360 which even mid-generation has changed to become almost a wii in mass-appeal. Or even right now what Nintendo's done changing the ds brands from the ds which was the definition of ''the kids system'' with the massive amount of casual titles it had (with albeit some good hardcore games) to the 3ds which has almost become a system used so by older-gamers it is compared to the NES of our day.
If anything it shows how much WILL change. It's obvious Nintendo's intending on changing their formula to some extent... we've seen ''mature'' or hardcore games such as Zombii-U , Trine 2 , Assassin's Creed III , Mass Effect 3 , Arkham City , Black Ops II , Injustice , Ninja Gaiden , ghost recon online , etc. as well as titles that while ''kid-friendly'' are enjoyed by most gamers like Rayman Legends , Lego City Undercover , Pikmin 3 , etc.however comments like this (base comment) are doing no good and are not only uselessly incorrect and have been proven wrong already , but damage what might change anyways. Not to mention they're about as fresh as the arrow in the knee and fat Gabe Newell jokes.
@moviequest14 Nintendo is changing your're right, but everyone now will depict nintendo's audience as childish and elderly, whether or not nintendo releases a console that MIGHT change it's audience , they have already set a name for themselves. just because i can play football doesn't mean i'm a football player
@essbigboss That was his excuse for why Nintendo wouldn't release it , but that never stopped Nintendo from releasing games like Mad World , that people actually protested against. And even still his over-used joke that wasn't even funny 5 years ago when wii launched doesn't hold up, because Wii-U has no audience yet.
@moviequest14 "It doesnt appeal to their audience of toddlers and elderly gamers." so you forgot that part huh?
@essbigboss Oh no! You called fanboy on me..... how am I going to be able to go to sleep tonight knowing that you think I'm a fanboy! It's going to be a long time before I'm able to recover from that. He said and I quote ''This game is to edgy for Nintendo'' when Nintendo put on their stamp of approval on games like Mad World that according to Wikipedia ''has been the subject of controversy in the United Kingdom due to its violent subject matter''. This article , and for that matter his comment , don't talk about the sales for the game , it talks about the likeliness of an M-rated game to come to the system , sorry but it's going to be a challenge for you to twist around what someone said when the comment is right above you.
@moviequest14 alright fanboy, he said it will not appeal to Nintendo's audience, it's too edgy for them, then you went and mention games that are gory and explicit, but just because the game is available for that port, doesn't mean it will appeal to nintendo's current audience,
@essbigboss He said it's too edgy , and those games mentioned are edgy even compared with Sony and MS. The ratings or esrb ratings don't matter , almost anyone acknowledges that the games mentioned either have a lot of gore , or a lot of language. I never even mentioned the ratings for those games.
@VenkmanPHD And that has what to do with its edginess exactly? Oh yeah... nothing And even still Metacritic's 81 score for it tends to disagree.... not as if you played it to say that anyways.
@moviequest14 lol madworld was a flaming peice of shit-stinking garbage that wasn't worth the DVD-r I burned it on.
EA says, "Stay put" and we do, EA says, "Roll over" and we do, EA says, "Play dead" and we do, EA says, "Roll over and give us all your money for a sh*tty product" and guess what...we do. Time for a change.
@speed45823 I honestly don't get everyones problem with EA. Other than EA sports (and I just hate sports anyway) I feel like they release awesome games. Dead Space, .Skate, SSX, Crysis. These games are fun, are they not? I for one feel they were all worth the 60$ price point, and as far as I am concerned that is the majority of what matters.
@speed45823 I remember the times that EA was good, particulary with parternership of Bullfrog, making Theme Park, Theme Hospital, oldies like Desert Strike series, and a lot more.
Just to clarify for some... Developers have stated that the WiiU can run games at the graphic level of a modern high end PC. WiiU is going to be a fantastic console, and this partnership reinforces that.
I'll take this as them saying that they have something special in the works for the console, something that the other consoles will not get. There has to be a reason for the partnership, it doesn't exist for show, so expect some good news in the future in relation to the WiiU.
The WiiU is not going to have the same graphics level of a modern high end PC. It's going to be around the same level as the 360 and PS3.
@TheFreeman98 Do you work for Nintendo? NO! So what the hell do you know???
@TheFreeman98 No, I believe it will be better than that. Similarly to the way Wii has better graphical capabilities than the gamecube/xbox/ps2, but obviously not on par with this gen, the Wii U will have graphics better than 360/ps3 but it won't be on par with the next batch of consoles.
I wouldn't be too surprised if it could run modern high-end PC settings though.
BTW though, look up Assassin's Creed 3 boston demo, played on ps3. then bring up the same demo from the Wii U version.
Wii U has better lighting, a crisper image, more details in textures, a much better draw distance, and higher visual quality in said draw distance.
We will see that the Wii U will, within a year or two of games, make 360/ps3 look out dated, very much the way the highest end gaming PC rigs make them look now.
@punkdsk8erdude To be honest, I don't think inferior performance will be a standard with Nintendo, it never actually has been, only if you've only used the Wii would you think that. Just look at the N64 and GameCube, they are far more powerful than the competition was from Sony at the time. The NGC had almost twice the CPU clock-rate + more RAM than the PS2, and the N64... well, just look at any N64 game and compare it to a PS1 game. So honestly, I think this is a passing trend for Nintendo.
@punkdsk8erdude To be honest I can't see the next gen being much different from Wii U. Graphics are hitting there peak now (Just look at the life span of the 360) and the fact indie game are becoming so popular due to high cost of top end games. I can see the next gen cycle lasting even longer than the current one.
@TheFreeman98 Developers have claimed otherwise , I too have heard multiple developers that work with wii-u say they had it running on high-end pc level.
I literally busted up laughing when I read the headline. My money is on this NOT happening. Mark my words, it might be a couple weeks, maybe a couple months, but soon we'll see the headline "Crysis 3 for Wii-U Sacked" or the like, there is a reason wii doesn't get any sweet games like xbox, ps3, or pc, and thats because it flat-out sucks. Much respect for nintendo, they brought us into the modern gaming era, but recently they have not been living up to their namesake.
*end of rant*
@PsyonicPlague I disagree! There the only one's living up to there name, innovative and unique, unless of course you think endless FPS are what make a console great!
@PsyonicPlague You fail. Your saying that a console that hasn't even been released yet, nor have you tried, is a failure. Could you at least wait till after launch to hate it?
'Potentially on the cards'
Sounds niether here, nor there... Hope it does happen though.
Personally I like everything about the WiiU, except the name... They should really work on their console names.
@JimmeyBurrows the problem is that the Wii is a brand now.
The 90 million+ Wii owners will be more attracted to a direct sequel bearing the Wii name still. They may or may not realize that Nintendo is the brand. Keep in mind, this is due to the games, wii fit, wii sports, etc.
That's why they need to keep the Wii name.
To get rid of it might have meant to risk losing some of those Wii customers.
It's smart business on Nintendo's end, but i agree with you.
Whats the point? In my experience, people who buy Wii's don't buy them to play shooters. If you want to play shooters get a PC, PS3 or Xbox.
@Psycold In my experience, nobody owns a Wii U, and has no idea whether they will use it for shooters or not.
Reading this, I keep thinking of that line from Dumb and Dumber:
Lloyd: What are my chances?
Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*
