It sounds like actual DLC and not just a chunk of the game they removed to make people pay extra. I'll buy it.. If this game had better graphics and fewer flaws, it would be a solid 9.5. Hopefully the sequel will improve things.
New $10 content for zombie title lets gamers play as antagonist Ryder White; "several hours" promised; two blueprints for weapons also added.
In September's zombie action game Dead Island, players had the chance to become heroes, fighting to stay alive on an island infested with snarling undead. With the game's newest content, however, players will swap sides, becoming the game's antagonist Ryder White.
Due out on February 1, the content will be available on Xbox Live (800 Microsoft points, or $10), the PlayStation Network ($10), and for PC through Steam ($10). According to Deep Silver, the content will allow gamers to learn about White's motivations and uncover "why he did what he had to do."
In addition to a new single-player story campaign that will span "several hours," the Ryder White DLC includes two blueprints for weapon modifications. Unfortunately, Deep Silver did not name these items.

lucky i kept my copy i bought this on day one when it came out i have not even beat it yet and im about 70% done now just started playing again last night i thought this was a pretty good game as i didnt have no problems playing my game and my save never messed up
I'm a fiend for all things zombie, but I stayed away from Dead Island because first-person melee, in my opinion, always comes across clunky and sloppy. And based on all the video footage I've seen, that's exactly the case here. Still, I was considering picking the game up when it hit the $20 or less price range. But now I'm hoping the game does well enough that they eventually release a "Complete Edition" with all DLC included. Think I'll wait for that instead.
so.... my friend and I are in the middle of this game. it sounds like at this time it will be POINTLESS to get this DLC. It is not like Borderlands DLC where it adds onto the on-going adventure so that we can use our current characters. is this correct? thats a real shame. I figured they would add more story and locations, just like the 3 AMAZING borlderlands DLC. but this means we would have to start all the way over with a new character? I would rather just play through borderlands with one of the charcters I had not beaten the game with.
I personally didn't like this game. There was no fun to be had in the game, The graphics weren't that great as well. I switched from this back to borderlands and fallout and was much more satisfied. This was a game just trying to hard to be a good game. Would've kept it if it was split-screen though, not gonna lie.
I got Dead Island for free (including the DLC and no, I did not pirate it) so I might consider getting this.
I genuinely enjoyed this game on release and I continue to play it today. It has what I like to call the "Alpha Protocol Syndrome." That is, the game has some truly great, inspired ideas and concepts, however they aren't all implemented as well as they could have been. For example, Alpha Protocol had a very intriguing story, and perhaps the perfect example of how dialogue and morality should impact a player's progress, but the combat and overall gameplay was not up to par compared to its contemporaries. Likewise, Dead Island has a flimsy story, weak character development, and some odd design decisions, but the combat and overall sense of exploration makes the game--in my opinion, at least--an absolute blast to play. The devs took a lot of risks with the game and in the end only a handful actually paid off. But just because some aspects of a game fall flat, that doesn't necessarily mean the game is unplayable. There are enough redeeming qualities and aspects of partial brilliance to make Dead Island a very enjoyable experience. I'll be sure to check this DLC out when the time comes :)
I like this game alright I just don't know that DLC that provides basically more of the same from a different story angle is really what people would want to see in paid DLC. I don't want to say I've been bored playing it but how many fetch quests can one game throw at you and keep things interesting?
I thought the game was great. it did have it's flaws, but overall it was one of the most fun games I played last year.
@ElectromavBi and now this will be the catalyst that brings it back to life.... wait for it.... like a ZOMBIE!!!!
I liked the game. There were definitely flaws, but I still had fun with the 4 player co-op. I don't know about this DLC though. I haven't played this game in a while.
As much as I tried to get into Dead Island,I just couldn't.I simply don't like it,despite it having stuff like open world, gore, exploration, looting, stuff I like a lot in my games.Somehow,I find it boring...
Content you might like…
Dead Island: Riptide might look like an idyllic zombie-fest, but it's little more than a frustrating mess of half-baked ideas and repetitive combat.
