Blizzard confirms multiplayer component won't ship with anticipated action RPG game; "counting down the days" to release date.
Blizzard Entertainment has promised that the release date for Diablo III will come in the "near future," and it appears as if sacrifices must be made to make that happen. Today, game director Jay Wilson confirmed on the game's website that Diablo III will ship without its player-versus-player multiplayer arena component.
"As we're counting down the days until we're ready to announce a release date for Diablo III, we've come to realize that the PVP game and systems aren't yet living up to our standards," Wilson said. "Today, we wanted to let you know that we've made the difficult decision to hold back the PVP Arena system and release it in a patch following the game's launch."
"After a lot of consideration and discussion, we ultimately felt that delaying the whole game purely for PVP would just be punishing to everyone who's waiting to enjoy the campaign and core solo/co-op content, all of which is just about complete," he continued.
Wilson did not indicate how long Diablo III will be available without its PVP multiplayer component. However, he did say that when it does arrive via downloadable patch, it will include "multiple arena maps with themed locations and layouts, PVP-centric achievements, and a matchmaking system," as well as a "personal progression system."
Wilson also emphasized that Blizzard will be focusing its post-launch efforts on finishing the multiplayer element of the game.
@Bigbudd0045 Hey buddy sorry if my grammar bother you, but i just disappointed about the release very long date d3, anyway thx about your concern...& i wish this could be released soon...
'nough said.. it shows how gaming industry sucks nowadays both in pc and console games ->>>http://youtu.be/LR5y8ATKAZQ
Fine...all the haters....don't get the game then. Meanwhile I will be having fun and after playing through co-op a few times PVP will be patched in FOR FREE and I will be having even more fun. Meanwhile the haters will be hating and waisting their time on pointless moaning about nothing only to buy the game when they find out all those silly hypothesis prove untrue.
If it'll get the game out within the next few months I'm all for it - still have a desire to play this!
@Sigil-otaku If they cut-out/cut-down the skill trees, it was to balance the game for PvP. They had been dumbing down the character classes in WoW for years for that reason.
I've been a huge fan of Blizz and Diablo games in general but this is just getting old... look... I would have been absolutely fine with these news 2 years ago... I had 2 accounts full of characters in D2 and essentially never PVP'ed... it doesn't REALLY bother me that there will be no PVP in the game, most likely I wouldn't use it even if it was there but this is just bad bad business by Blizz... with all these delays and a MULTI-YEAR development cycle, this is just absurd... how do you spend so long designing a game and then don't have the time to include an ESSENTIAL/BASIC part of the game at release??? terrible... they should be ashamed...
I prefer Blizzard to do a hard testing and improving the game before releasing it. I work in the IT area and I know how painful and that is takes a lot of time to release a good quality software. Im sure its gonna be a great game!
Lol at Blizzard The stupidest move they could have made was being bought out by Activision. You deserve what you get when this game fails hard.
Oh come on Blizzard, you take years and years, you remove light radius, you kick out potions for silly orbs, you strip down the game so we don't get a skill tree but instead get far less skills and no choice in levelling them, that simply unlock as you level up and you pick 6 to be available and upgrade them with some runes, then you spend ages adding that stupid shop just so you can cash in, you remove stats and rename them to make it simpler, then you cut the PVP till later and finally I'll probably buy it (got a cheap preorder on amazon) and I'll be damn disappointed. Still can't believe they removed skill trees. In D2 you had about 20 skills on each tree, now it looks like we'll be lucky to have 30 per champion. Why are they trashing this game. Wait till people notice the shop will definitely be finished but PVP won't, too busy trying to get our money to buckle down on balancing and game features, herp derp blizzard.
Blizzard is becoming a total greed machine, and it's best marketing strategy now is the insanely huge hype. In the end they always deliver quality, no doubt, but the way they hype things and force fans to sponsor the project with preorder borders the dishonest or even cross that line.
PvP is not the real issue for Blizzard. The Skills approach is seriously flawed and the largest cause for feedback on the beta forums. Currently playing Beta version 14 now... I wish and so do many others that Blizzard move the skills back to beta version 12. The current skills system is going to sink the game on release..
Gamespot writers have a hard-on to try and smear this game. They only report on negative news. It will succeed much better than the gay dating sim that is their favorite, Mass Effect 3.
lol Kids acting like this is something NEW from Blizzard...... WoW shipped without PvP too. D3 will get PvP, and odds are, that it will have a great deal of features from the added dev time. Its BLIZZARD guys, you know, the company that releases nothing but brilliant games? Every single time. Those guys? You know, the ones who have been known for absurd dev times on EVERY SINGLE GAME they have ever released?
What surprises me in all this is that despite the game being in dev for so long, it is still not in a feature locked state. There is a serious planning problem within blizzard's d3 department. (most of the readers here probably have already come to this conclusion). We are quite a few at work that are following the development of d3 and I am pretty sure that it will be remembered as what not to do when developing a game from conception to release. It might or might not be successful in the end, but damn will it have costed them alot making it. Thankfully they had alot of funds or it could have been a diablo 3 forever type of scenario. In the end, I am looking forward to d3 and will buy it because diablo is a classic and I don't want to be missing a chapter of it. I certainly hope that the directing part that is behind d3 looks for a job in something other than the gaming industry because under normal conditions, the game would have not made it. edit: about the PvP part, I really dont mind as Im mostly PvE or just single player. I am mostly disappointed with the fact that they are still not feature locked.
Blizzard...? - Wait, the name rings a bell. Wasn't that the studio that ruined its IPs with Pandas? Whatever happened to them?
I cannot believe people are moaning about this i mean seriously just cant please anyone you had the choice of game without pvp or no game till pvp is done and people still complain that the little bit of pvp which is a good part to get to standards as pvp usually sucks in games liek these all they want to do is make it so everyone who plays pvp don't feel as if its just a waste of time
The truth is Blizzard are becoming a disappointment! And this is from a Blizzard fan! I love Starcraft (1&2), Diablo2 and Warcraft3 but what they are currently doing is not right. Releasing a game without one of its core features is bad, and if blizzard does this be sure other developers will do the same in the future (1st day DLC on Mass Effect 3 was just the beginning). If they're going to force you to spend the money you earn from the auction house only on Blizzard stuff then they will totally lose my support (and I hope many others think the same). Please Blizzard, remain the company we know, deliver great games(and fully featured) and don't punish us with this kind of crap(take the part you deserve from transactions, but don't become greedy).
Diablo 3 might turn out to be good. But regardless, whoever the project manager/director is needs to be fired. Considering some of their questionable decisions (online for SP) I have a feeling Diablo 3 won't be met with universal acclaim like its predecessors.
Great if it speeds up the release and besides its not like they won't be working on the multiplayer in the mean time.
I'm fine with this. I really am. It's not like people are going to be geared and ready for PvP very soon after release. Many players don't even mess with PvP at all. I think it's a smart move on their part, and I support it.
I never played Diablo or Diablo 2 in multiplayer mode. I've played WoW for 4 years and pretty much avoided PvP the whole time, as I was more interested in PVE raid encounters. I've thought about it several times and then decided I just enjoy this type of game in solo. To me going multiplayer is a way of avoiding the games challenges, until you are ready to PvP. I was going to purchase Diablo 3 until Blizzard announced they are requiring an online connection. I really don't understand why an online connection is necessary, but until Blizzard removes that component of the game I won't be purchasing it.
Blizzard have decided to push back their Diablo 3 release announcement. They have decided that the grammar was not up to their standards. They are now looking to hire new writers.
Wow, really? PVP was the most enjoyable part of Diablo2, and we didn't even need arenas to have fun.... Shame on you Blizzard.
but this is an excuse for me. really do not have the game ready after so many years. and when is ready, it will be outdated.
@ripse3 Either learn how to write properly or don't write at all. Your grammar is just atrocious. Also, it is March, if they have not announced a release date then the odds of it coming out this month are non existence. Also, I highly doubt Blizzard is scouring the comments here considering they get enough feedback through the D3 beta that is out.
I really couldn't care less about PVP or indeed any multiplayer other than perhaps coop. This is the right decision as making already impatient fans wait just for PVP before shipping would only be adding fuel to the fire.
C;mon blizzard i want D3 come out this month, PVP problem is ok to me not to important.....but is more important can this games come out march 2012 full version to single plyer....don't make me waiting too long,,,,.....or maybe D3 cancelled to release...damnnn
Who's willing to bet, the pvp system that does come around for Diablo 3 will be half-assed, with only a handful of maps and a limited system. But with a microtransaction it will all be yours. Or they will include it in a later expansion.
this is good news, imo. i want the game already! it's not like the PVP is a core component anyway, atleast for me, and it comes along as a free patch, so why not.
lol @ the people saying it's gonna be payed DLC. It's gonna be patched in people don't make such a fuss.
how can you nix something for launch when there is no release date, mmmm also i do believe in waiting longer for a more finished game but i do believe thier has to be a limit to that, how long is to long, blizz isnt a new company and they have a large staff
I definitely agree with waiting longer to receive a better quality game, but I really don't understand what Blizzard can possibly be doing that causes their game releases to be delayed so much. The amount of money WoW must have brought them surely could allow them to produce games faster, especially when it comes to Heart of the Swarm. All they needed to do was make the new campaign and tweak a few other points, but its still taken them years. I guess it could just be a marketing strategy to ensure a huge amount of anticipation towards their games.
@emperiox I couldn't care less which game you think is best... my original comment had nothing to do with that -r u a bit of a funboy me thinks?!- My orignal comment had to do with a question of is blizzard preparing to make this a DLC? And F2p? There is nothing on this world that is completely free.... how much paypal have you or others used in Runescape for whatever ingame reason??
Look at DLC....people have shown game devs that "hey we're impatient and dumb so we will buy any additions to your current product that for the most part should have had access to begin with".(day 1 DLC, or map packs) Because of that they know they can get away with paid additions.... Now they could still add this for free like red dead did with that coop but since this is blizzard....i highly HIGHLY doubt that so have fun giving them more money. Side note: Map packs are insanely over priced if you play PC games you know that for a lot of games there is a community that makes free maps and in much larger quantities and that are also just straight up more cool FOR FREE, hell me and a buddy would make DoD maps for fun and play with some buddies on um took us less then a day, and we even had dynamic lighting and crap that is considered "special FX: P.S the ones who read and thumb this down...are probably the ones who buy DLC or just feel insulted big whoop its the truth.
A long time ago in a parallel dimension not so far away, there once was a company called Blizzard, which name was tantamount with game quality, coining the phrase that a game will be released "... when it's done!" Alas, this is not our world... (anymore)
None of these companies exhibit project management skills that their ridiculous budgets should be paying for. If I was publishing this, I'd want some sort of compensation.
At least they said patch and not dlc :P Also hopefully the game will be good for a few years, like d2. Looking forward for loot addiction.
