Creative director Lars Gustavsson says he would "love" to make sequel to 2006 futuristic shooter, but there are no current plans to do so.
DICE has no plans to again bring the Battlefield series to a futuristic setting. DICE veteran Lars Gustavsson said during a recent live chat that despite a personal desire to make a sequel to 2006's Battlefield 2142, no such project is in development.
"I would love to do it," he said. "When we announced in the studio that we were going to build Battlefield 2142, a lot of people ran over and wanted to apply for that team. I guess that the creative freedom that comes with a fictional world is something that's tempting when you have made games around historical and contemporary settings for a longer time."
During December 2011, a graffiti tag (at right) found in Battlefield 3's Back to Karkand expansion pointed to DICE possibly getting to work on Battlefield 2143. A representative from publisher Electronic Arts, however, declined to comment.
Elsewhere during the chat, Gustavsson fielded a question regarding the future of the Bad Company spinoff series. He largely dodged the question, but teased there may be news to share in the future.
"Last we heard from the misfits in Bad Company was a postcard in June from Bahamas where Haggard and the group had opened up a beach bar," he said. "It's really up to them…will keep you posted…"

Best thing of 2142 is having 2 morons as commanders parking the Titans on top of each other creating super lag for everyone. Actually I'm all for 2143 if they fix that issue or get rid of Titan mode completely.
@frunklindoodle I'll be all for 2143 if they fix that and add maps and also make walkers not die immediately in one second from across the map. No point in mechs if they cant even take more punishment than a tank.
Please EA get Dice to develop Battlefield 2143 and delay Battlefield 4 to another year after it, because I do not want the Battlefield franchise to go downhill like Call of Duty.
heh , as soon as crap ops 2 comes out they will change there minds EA started copying cod with changing BF3 as soon as BO2 sales are shown EA will buy ticket on the same train and lock dice in a dark room till they are done with the next cod wana be.
DICE!, I am the ultimate BF fan boy... I know what the bf fans want and its not another modern military shooter where we are fighting in the desert its something more original like 2142 was. I had so many great times playing that game with my friends. WE NEED A SEQUEL TO 2142, that is the bottom line and if you knew what was good for you as a software company you would produce what the diehard fans want.
That's a real shame and bad decision by EA the popular demand is there it makes no sense them not doing it! I'd love to see what they can do with the Frost Bite engine if they could do it!
Hopefully they'll make one eventually. If not then at least some sort of Titan mode remake with two aircraft carries serving as the titans. Titan mode is what made me love BF 2142 so much. I just loved going in with a team or reinforcing another one by going on the titan by a ship or drop pod. Also loved escaping the titan at the end.
I was half expecting to see a 2143 DLC for BF3 pop up similiar to what they did for Battlefield: Vietnam.Since the game isn't in development yet, maybe this means that we will eventually see a full fledged sequel? While you're at it DICE, please release the PC version of 1943 so the modding community can bring it up to it's full potential. 3 maps is such a waste of potential for such a fun game.
If they announced BF 2143, I would Pre-Order so fast that some guy working at amazon would see the preorder come in before he could even post it to the website.
As a long time fan of Dice games....I would Seriously pick battlefield 2143 over BF4,
one of the funnest moments in the game was being able to use the pod transports and ha running in to people...and the best was using them to land on the titans, I remember the mecs tooo they were so fun.
Would rather see 2143 over BF4... Running around with a cloaking device and pod jumping onto a floating battleship was brilliant. Would love to see Star Trek style transporter beacons and hover cycles...
@shooters125 haha!! no iv played them all including some of the mods on the pc. Fair play i never thought of the battlefront games that have been done already. Hey i do like a good star wars shooter, but i love battle filed more! infact Bf2 was my Favorited and that's an insult to morons. Im a wise old gamer been there seen it played it would be unwise to question my knowledge haha :)
Good, the last thing we need are more shooters, unless they are something like the quality of Borderlands. Of course, that's not an actual shooter. Think about it.
@Ultra_Taco Check out 1943, it was incredibly fun but really dropped the ball on replayability. Only 3 maps and a half-dozen vehicle types made it so the gun got pretty repetative after only 10-15 hours.Shame there was no PC release; the modding community could have turned it into something grand.
Anyone else getting sick of all these modern day shooters? Cant we have a bit of sci fi mixed with our shooters? EA and Dice don't fail to dissapoint me again.
"Fetal position, thumb in mouth, remembering the good ol days with 2142"
very depressing but this just means its not in development right now, theres still a chance in the future. I really doubt they wont touch this ever again
Battlefield Bad Company 3 or Battlefield 2143 are the only two Battlefield games that I am interested in. I am not interested in yet another modern day shooter that is going to just be the same thing as the last game, and the only way I'd purchase BF4 is if they released it as a launch title for the next generation of consoles... otherwise I have zero interest in it. Innovation isn't something you have to be scared of @ea_dice so please think outside of the box and put out something that I will spend money on.
@Nexrad Playing where your friends are is never a mistake. I'd rather play on a Console and have fun with my friends than be forever alone playing on my PC.

This is exactly why BF2142 is my favorite BF game. Everything was designed for the sake of gameplay. As opposed to "modern military" games that require you to adhere to a certain degree of realism or authenticity to everything. I was hoping BF4 was going to be more futuristic and wild like 2142, but this deflates that hope.
are you serious?? 2142 was underrated battlefield series so much i had in that game. too much, not seeing a sequel hurts. i rather have 2143/bad company 2 then dumbed down battlefield 4.
Hmmm I've played BF since 1942, but this crap is looking like COD milking, I am totally against that, hopefully BF4 was just a joke from Bad Company and when you log on tt he beta the guys from BC like rip the BF4 screen or something and its actually BC 3
