If executed properly could be good especially if the shooter part is not too emphasized.
E3 2011: Defiance MMOG coming to 360, PS3, PC
Rift dev Trion Worlds crafting multiplatform online shooter that will be interconnected with new SyFy Channel show.
LOS ANGELES--Trion Worlds landed a critical hit earlier this year with Rift, its first massively multiplayer online role-playing game. However, that's not all the nascent studio has in the works, as Trion Worlds has been collaborating with the SyFy Network on a second MMOG since 2008.
Today, Trion Worlds offered the first details on that transmedia project, announcing Defiance for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Billed as the first multiplatform MMOG, the game will be set in the shooter genre. Unfortunately, additional details on the project were not revealed.
As previously announced, Defiance will be interconnected with a television show produced by the NBC Universal-owned SyFy Channel. Describing how that process would work in 2008, SyFy Channel president Dave Howe explained, "We can tell [players] that there will be an alien invasion at a certain place in the game, at a certain time, and to be there with all their friends and be ready. The outcome depends on them. And then that battle will be part of the universe in the show."
Trion Worlds also said today that the television show will be written by Rockne S. O'Bannon, whose previous credits include Warehouse 13, Alien Nation, seaQuest DSV, and Farscape.
