EA shutting down over a dozen game servers

Wow, so I just bought EA Active 2. I use to workout w/P90X but had NO motivation so I figured I would get this, join a workout group, and rock out! What a joke! No servers. Which means I can strap on all these sensors to basically reiterate my progress back to me. Wow, what a useless invention! Buuutt, keep in mind it does come with its signature outdated graphics and useless status charts to up the ante!

When I see half a dozen trailers from site like: Amazon, IGN, and Gamespot (in 2013) shooting out details that have been recalled long ago - that is just downright false advertising!! Friggin' recall the trailers you sell your products on or at least a disclaimer at the end of your existing advertisements letting the world know that video game developers and their moguls can take away features of any game at will. Yes, even if advertised as standard features.

I had to actually go to EA's site to find this out. Even the game itself plays a clip at startup highlighting their online features. Slow the F down and release a patch. Good to know how EA operates though. This last purchase will fuel my hatred for EA and ultimately my decisions for future game purchases...

If you have not used the code that came with new copies of The Saboteur for The Midnight Club DLC, you still may be able to use it. Today, 03-29-2012, I was able to use that code to download the DLC for free. The card it came on said it would expire on 12-31-2010. It apparently did not. I imagine that since that code was a shorter one than most other codes, at least on the Xbox 360, the ability to use it to get the DLC free via the in game Downloads section, which the card instructs you to use, is what will be going away, it will hopefully still be available to purchase from the Xbox 360 Marketplace and PSN Store. Now if only Ubisoft would remove the expiration dates from the DLC cards that come with their AC collector editions, I missed out on AC: Brotherhood's Collector Edition DLC because I did not open the game until after the February 2011 expiration date listed on the card. I don't really get why they have expiration dates any way. I'd even buy that missed DLC but they never made it available to do so, like they did for AC 2. But I digress. Anyway, the Saboteur DLC may still be possible to get after the April 13th deadline.

Well now we know what to do - if you have an obscure EA game whose online functionality you'd like to preserve, be sure to log into those servers and sit idly in the lobby while you sleep overnight x ) I mean if they WANT us to use up their bandwidth unnecessarily, that's not a problem!

I could give a crap less about any of those games BUT Burnout Revenge. What a shame, that's a great game....

Lord of the Rings conquest lost its online function on March 16, 2010 and it had online trophies.

This pisses me off.

Well damn. What are they going to do about the games that have online trophies for those game huh? Are they going to remove it or are they going to issue a patch in sort of fake on/offline makeshift work around so that players can still get their trophies without actually being online?

@rarson - 100% agree. I don't get why people are surprised. EA's absolutely terrible about supporting games long-term. Part of why I don't really care about their silly online passes - I know it's gonna be offline next year, so why would I buy a game from them that mainly banks on multiplayer?

They do this every couple years with older games so its no surprise. Every single EA game is running on their dedicated severs and it cost them money to run them. I'm sure some people still play the MMA so that's lame to see it die quickly but a majority of other games nobody plays.

Not the first time they do this... and won't be the last... at least they give dedicated servers *cough*Activision*cough* Since they regularly do this, they should add the option to host games in every tittle they release.

If a company is no longer interested in my needs as a customer, then I'm no longer interested in buying their products. For a short while it seemed like EA was turning around and trying harder to connect with gamers - but that period was short-lived. Now they've gone back to seeing every gamer as a walking wallet, and nothing else. Restrictive DRM, Origin and cutting people off from their games, server shutdowns, cutting off access to paid for DLC - that's all just being openly hostile to their customers. We need to stop supporting these kinds of publishers, and stop buying their games. Shame on you, EA.

EAs MMA is only a year & a half old. That thing practically just released & you're going to shut down the server? Redonkculous!! As for the people defending this with the claim of " well no one is playing it anyways". Doesn't matter. Just because we dont play it on a regular basis doesn't mean we dont want to play it at all. You're suppose to be able to play it as you please. So maybe i play it once today, & once again in 3 months. It seems online only matters if the players are consistently playing it on a weekly basis. That's not fair If i buy a game i should be able to come & go through the multiplayer as i please. It shouldn't be mandatory for all owners to play it consistently online or the servers get shutdown.

Killing the servers of old games and major bombs = no big deal. The only one on the list that is really questionable is BF3 on iOS.

EA shuts down more servers, and the Earth continues to revolve around the Sun. This is why I don't buy EA games for the online content.

Just another reason why EA sucks and the whole concept of not being able to create your own LAN games or dedicated server is crap.

This is why being able to run your own dedicated servers would be nice. EA doesn't want to run a server anymore? Fine someone will just run their own and I can connect to them.

Very sad to see Burnout Revenge going offline...I would rather have seen paradise go offline. I obviously don't play Revenge often anymore but it's a great online game. I'll have to have a few more races before it goes offline. As for the whole shutting down games where people bought online passes? EA...you suck. You're not worth anymore words.

So the folks who bought an online pass just gets the shaft?Good business practice would be to give the consumer the option to take that online pass and move it towards another game that uses an online pass. Oh wait....this is EA we are talking about.Well it was wishful thinking.

They are so corrupt, I wouldn't be surprise if they continue to sell multiplayer dlc for these games... Online Passes shrink the multiplayer population and don't allow anyone to try it before with a rental, or with a friend's game... Which make the company sell less games, and keep those servers non profitable and unpopulated, Which make the people stop playing it and then ultimately, end the servers. I kinda realise now what are online passes for! Blizzard is probably having a good laugh with their 14 years old Starcraft and 12 years old Diablo 2 still rolling! Stop trying EA and go make Facebook games! @Morde10668 You're not alone, I surely wish people would use a bit more their brain when they spend and realise that they are voting with their wallet...

@donger Absolutely. Pathetic that people can pay for an online pass which is ludicrous in the first place, and then not be allowed to use the service.

Since they are shutting down the servers to games that purchased a pass for, it only seems fitting that they give my money back for purchasing a pass for a service they no longer provide.

I havent bought an EA game for 4 years now and wont, too bad other people wont stick to there words and show these chumps how much they really run.

EA really has some good games, but seriously? you treat your customers like this just because you know your such a large juggernaut of a company that it wont matter? blow me. they actually believe they can get away with this garbage, and they will be right unless we do something about it.

Online passes are a bad idea.

I know it's very fashionable, and very "gamer" to be outraged at Electronic Arts, but take a look at the list. Do any of you actually play ANY of these games anymore? Apparently "gamers" don't believe that all good things must come to an end. Far be it from me to defend anything that Electronic Arts does, but it doesn't make any to keep the servers up for a six year old game when nobody is playing it.

From now on I am only going to purchase single player offline games. EA can now join Ubisoft on my boycott list.

That's why i avoid to buy EA games. I only buy the ones that i really really want, so good for me that these days there are only to series from EA that i really want, Dead Space and Mass Effect. I used to like EA (it was awesome on the Sega Genesis era), but i started to dislike EA when it started to release sequel after sequel with little to no improvements and closing servers in the process.

This is why I prefer SP.

Don't get me wrong, I dislike EA, and refuse to buy any of their products on principle, but I'm starting to feel that people are getting a little nit-picky. While being angry that paying an extraneous ten dollars just to have that service rendered inactive it a bit frustrating, try to see the other side. MMORPGs, for instance, charge every single month. Honestly, it seems reasonable to shut down old servers that don't make them money and have a diminished player-base. My fear isn't what they're doing right now; it's what's going to happen. Companies like EA tend to justify their greed with things like used games. But used games are a dying commodity. And when that day comes, do you think they will give up things like day-one DLC and online passes? Hardly.

@ AuronAxe. I havent given EA money since BF2 either, Unless the game is on STEAM and is under $10, if EA games are not under $10 i dont buy it.

It's not the first time EA have done this, and won't be the last, but I am surprised at the number of games on the list that are less than 18 months old. Games companies might be complaining about used game sales, but when they treat their own games with such disposable disregard it can only lead to used copy prices dropping faster than ever.

The Saboteur had online servers? Huh? Anyways, this sucks for people who still play them, though I guess EA is somewhat justified if hardly anybody plays them. I don't like the online passes but luckily I haven't given EA any money since buying Battlefield 2 in 2005.
