Monks FD pulling, Warriors Tagging, Enchanters mezzing, these are the things I miss in todays MMO's. I hate the newer dumb down combat systems in todays MMO's
Anniversary Edition of long-running MMO includes all EverQuest expansions for only $20; collection will be released April 23.
Twenty dollars may not buy much these days, but for fans of massively multiplayer online role-playing games, it'll soon buy them an entire world.
Sony Online Entertainment today announced that it is celebrating the eight-year anniversary of its flagship MMO EverQuest by releasing the EverQuest The Anniversary Edition collection on April 23. The pack will include EverQuest and its many expansions for $19.99.
SOE will also be releasing new in-game content beginning today. Among the planned additions are a scavenger hunt and "dozens of Luclin Fabled NPCs."
EverQuest II, with new graphics and features, was released in late 2004.
EverQuest, which was released eight years today, is rated T for Teen. For more information, read GameSpot's review.
I just started EQ in december i liked it so much by february i had bought all the expansions too bad for me i guess if i wasnt so impatient i coulda got them alot cheaper. Ive had loads of fun tho playing, its like a second life for me,I highly recommend EQ to anyone if ya have any questions play the demo first then decide if you wanna pay to play. Hope ta see ya soon. Bigox (Firona Vie).
and it'll only take five years (at $15 a month) to actually play through all of them, hell of a deal
Ahh Everquest. I heard so much about ye. Yet the slow loading between zones on my old Pentium 3 was more than a nuissance. Perhaps now it would be a good time to visit ye. Alas there is far too much content for me to swallow. It would take me a decade to traverse the massive world ye is. No thank you may ye have a good funeral. LOL jk. I don't think Everquest will ever die out in the near future. It has a hard core fan base. I quit after trying it for two weeks. Just not my type of game.
I have to disagree with Diernes, while I enjoyed EQ immensely (gave it a good 3 years), WoW isn't just a minor improvement on EQ. The game only borrows a few ideas from EQ, such as instances (LDoN), but he core gameplay mechanics are much more inspired by Diablo 2, although more complicated. Leveling in the game is easy, running dungeons on the other hand requires teamwork and coordination, especially in BC. Oh, but I do agree, way too late to get in on EQ since there are virtually no low level toons anymore on most servers. The deal is nice for people who need a cheap way to catch up on some expansions.
Everquest is a classic. But its far to late to start playing now you would be insane to attempt it. As to the WOW advocates. That game is just a everquest clone dumbed down for the blizzard fanboi's. WOW did nothing better than EQ just ripped off all its idea's and placed it in a package accessable to morons. An Easy and boring yawnfest, and one of the most overated games of all time.
I've never really cared for MMOs, it sounds like a good deal though I'm not sure how many people would go back and play an 8 year old MMO for very long.
EverQuest was such a great game back in the day, had loads of fun playing it. Although, I don't see why anyone would start playing it now... it's kind of late.
WoW didn't do it better they just simplified it for the masses and dumbed it down so anybody could play
I have to agree EQ was the one that put MMO's on the map. WoW just did them better. But 20 for all the xpansions is a great deal.
Everquest was a revolutionary MMO when it came out, but in this day and age, it fails in comparison to WoW or Guild Wars ( i dont like guild wars that much anyway). most ideas for wow came from Everquest, but wow did them better..
Interesting, but surely this would effect the subscribers of Everquest 2? Would'nt it be better to merge the two as the gameplay is very similar. There also rumours that SOE, will be providing the PS3 with some MMO's, I'm just waiting for the anouncement of Everquest being on PS3
Does this pack come with any bonus collectables, ohh anyways I will have a look if its worth picking up, pretty good for just $20. :)
That's a pretty good deal, the game plus every expansion for 20 bucks. It's too bad there are other, new MMO's that eclipse EQ in every way.
the ghrapics of everquest are from the early 3d era and they are so ugly they just make me wanna puke also the game is very hardcore and frustating :/
I just bought EQ2, I actually prefer this over WoW - it's the same thing really, but a nice change in graphics and setting.
SOE needs to bring Everquest 2 with everything to the PS3. Let me turn on all the graphics to their highest settings and I am in. I will even buy a PS3 to do it and pay a monthly fee.
Wow Everquest doesn't look like it's every going to slow down. Eight years old and still going. I wish it didn't have a monthly fee or I might try it out. IT would be cool playing a MMO with as much content as it has with all the expansions. It would make for one huge gameworld.
Great game, but almost 10 years old. I loved it, but I cant see myself paying a monthly charge to go back to it.
I tryed playing this and EQ2 and vanguard they just feel like an empty grind fest with no rewards.... WoW you feel great when you slay onexia or Rognoros
I don't have to give it much, if any credit. True, it's definitely one of the foundations of the genre, but that's not remotely a good thing in my mind. The only thing I genuinely enjoyed about Everquest was grouping up and slaying monsters as a team. Do you honestly expect me to believe that no other MMO before Everquest did that, or would have afterwards without Everquest? C'mon now. As for the rest of play - the systems for crafting, advancement, quests, the non-caster classes, the items, the zones, death, etc, etc etc....all among the worst I've seen in the genre. Absolutely punishingly unfun. And far too many MMOs have followed Everquest's lead in some portion of gameplay. I don't wish Everquest any ill, mind you. Obviously some people (masochists) have a different idea of fun than I do, and I'd just as soon Everquest remain around to sate their desires. So that EQ's gameplay can stay the hell out of the games I might actually want to play.
I played EQ for many years started back maybe 6 months after its release can't believe its lasted this long. Of course like many others stopped playing because many stopped playing but even if you don't like this game. You have to give it credit for what it did because it did a lot of things right. Many mmo's wouldn't be what they are if it was not for EQ it really raised the bar and honestly i don't think there will ever be another MMO like it. The level of difficulty it had along with tons of people playing and a really active community was just outstanding. It will be a sad day when this game dies and honestly i wish they did something with it that would draw a ton of people back to it. Still just can't believe it was 8 years ago when it was released.
SOE will do anything to squeeze a few more dollars from you. ...and Vanguard is a plotless, drab, uncreative piece of junk.
Mmm i've always benn interested in everquesy but have never actually bought it,i tried EQ2 and liked it but the frame rate is non-playable for me,if this comes out in the UK then i might just have to check it out
I didn't know EverQuest was still active what with the sequel being out and all. It still deserves credit for being the first MMO to see the level of commercial success that it had. It pushed the world of MMOs to a whole new level.
Everquest was great, I stopped little after Planes of Power came out... but until then it was so amazing because the world was SO HUGE. I mean outrageously huge. And unlike World of Warcraft where there's the Alliance faction and the Horde faction. Each of the what, 16 races, had their own faction, and they would get along with some other races, but not so great with others.
Alot for 20 bucks, but I don't think I'll ever be into the idea of paying 10 bucks a month to play a game like Everquest or WoW. I have way too short an attention span, but I often go back to a game I used to play. Would you want to pay 10 bucks a month for a game you aren't playing, just so you can go back to where you were when you left off months later?
i personally think people that are tired of WoW but miss the old "Everquest feel" , should definitly go try out vanguard .
