Fake Modern Warfare 4 beta site emerges

Bogus website claims to have 300 "100 percent functional" beta keys for new Activision Call of Duty game.

A fake Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 website has emerged (via Fusible), claiming to have 300 "100 percent functional" beta keys for the rumored upcoming entry in the long-running series.

The website is registered to a person in Rhode Island and not Activision Publishing.

The site, which appears to be run by a group called Sn4gamers, asks users to share a link to the site on their Facebook page and elsewhere to receive a beta code.

Though the website may be fake, Modern Warfare 4 is in fact rumored to be in development. Captain Price voice actor Billy Murray reportedly confirmed the game was in development last year, with an additional report claiming Modern Warfare 4 is 2013's Call of Duty installment.

Activision confirmed last month that a new Call of Duty game will release this year. Executives do not expect this game be as commercially successful as immediate predecessor Black Ops II.

The Modern Warfare story arc began in 2007 with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Sequels Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 were released in 2009 and 2011, respectively.

Because CoD fans were already bored with BO2 by December lol. They're ready for the next $60 map pack running on the same 7 year old engine.

New COD? Oh wait Activision said they will stop milking the franchise so we will have to wait the next year sadly. (Sarcasm)

They shouldn't make MW4. The Modern Warfare series should remain a trilogy.

@Heshertonfist Pre damage control, they know they can't keep tossing the same game around with a new cover each year and get away with it for ever.

I like the Modern Warfare games; mostly because of the campaigns actually. You talk about milking a franchise, well yes, but at least I had to wait two years to enjoy one, 'cause I don't really care for most of the Treyarch games, excluding World At War when it came out (it's no longer great in my opinion).

Awkwardly, I got into Modern Warfare because of MW2, which many people seemed to dislike when it came to campaign, but oh well. A Modern Warfare 4 would be weird, but I'd be interested, even more so when it comes to next-gen. The only thing that I think the game needs is a longer campaign, maybe twice as long as they have been, so eight to twelve hours.

@NTM23 MW2 SP campaign was awesome people hated the unbalanced MP and the cheaters and the nuke but overall it was a great sequal

@Printul_Noptii Hm. I seem to remember people saying it was too much like a Michael Bay film, and for it far too implausible with a story that was incomprehensible. I do think it was implausible, and like a Michael bay film in a sense, but I liked the characters (which is not something I can say for MB films), and the story wasn't incomprehensible.

I liked MW3 as well, though the excitement was slightly less exhilarating. I was blown away by MW2 because of how unexcited I was for the game, but since I had played and beat many of the other Call of Duty games before it, I was going to beat this one, and I really thought that at the time in 2007 that the first Modern Warfare was kind of dull when it came to enjoyment.

I really like the trilogy though, though I'd have to say MW2's the best, then MW3, then MW, though the first isn't bad in any way at all, and I did everything in the first, but not three. They should just revamp everything in that trilogy and sell it into one consistent package so it's about a 12 to 15 hour game.

Alright, now I'm just venting (excluding the strong emotion part of that word).

@NTM23 @Printul_Noptii same here but I actually loved CoD4MW and much like you I wasnt expecting too much from MW2 but it delivered and I still remember it had memorable levels like the snow stealth mission, the plane boneyard mission or the airport shootout or the last afghanistan mission was awesome. Overall it had fun missions to play and was never boring. MW3 lost a lot of steam and I was rather like "meh whatever" even thou I enjoyed some of the levels it wasnt nearly as good as MW2 or even CoD4, for me personally 2007 was like the golden age of modern shooters with CoD4, Crysis, STALKER, FEAR being released after that we only get carbon copies of half finished game, the latest disappointment was Aliens AC man what a slap in the FPS fans face and Aliens face :[ at least CoD never let down gameplay wise even thou yeah the stories were absurd, but thank god there are still BF3 and Bioshock out there, BF3 being and awesome, awesome MP fpas and Bioshock delievers on story and emotions even thou the FPS gameplay is clunky, sorry for the long post xD hope you get my drift, cheers

A lot of these "Win X if you share, like, follow" in FB have been popping up since forever. I keep thinking a lot of people are complete suckers for things like this and they wouldn't fall for it if they just looked closer on where it originated. Seriously..... Rhode Island? First its suing Curt Schilling for the belly up 38 Studios (surprise... hes BROKE!) and now this...

People, can we move past these dumb shooter games that slow our innovation in the industry?

Really, they have not changed since Goldeneye for N64. The more people that buy these games the slower our industry is going to evolve.

Duke_51
Duke_51

@Skyrim25 I hear ya. That's a result of how much the industry is blowing up though. There'll be a lot more Michael Bay-esque games to come because games are mainstream now. Not that I'm complaining about that, just an observation really.

@chemergency7712 Why not? Spreads awareness so gullible people won't get scammed.Seems good to me. If it doesn't concern you, why click on the article? It's blatantly clear what it is from the title so you easily could have just passed it up. But if it helps some people, that's great.

wow, the 'MW4' logo on that fake site looks really bad. I really hope that the Modern Warfare series would end on the 3rd part. It's time for Infinity Ward to make a new one...i might be a minority here but can i dream of a WWII Call of Duty again?

Kane04

@sensei_hEnRY No.

Kids don't like history, so that's not where the money is.

They like modern shooters and claiming they follow the Navy Seals training program.

If they blocked all the under 17 kids, CoD would be a ghost town, going back to WWII would hurt the sales as well.

@DarkSaber2k An article that tells people about a website that claims to be giving away keys for a game that hasn't been officially announced and has no direct connection to the game's publisher?  There's nothing reprehensible or irresponsible about it.  All they're doing here is telling people that this site is probably a scam, the implication being that it's likely best to stay away from it.

Doesn't the fact that Ghost from MW2 is on the main page kind of give it away as fake? Oh who am I kidding? Am I the only one who plays them for their campaigns? Yep, thought so.

@Cube_Girl I also like how Call of Duty has that worn, dirty look to it, yet MW4 is nice and bright and clean, and doesn't even come close to what the real MW3 looks like.
