Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed III missing from UK Steam store

Ubisoft said it's currently discussing the issue with Valve; the games are currently unavailable on the UK Steam store; no reason given or estimated time until the games will reappear.

The PC version of Assassin's Creed III and the soon-to-be-released Far Cry 3 are unavailable on the UK Steam store, according to a report from PCGamesN.

"We've been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s Creed III and Far Cry 3, but for the time being the games are not available via Steam in the UK," a Ubisoft spokesperson told the site.

The spokesperson did not give a reason or an estimated time until the issue would be fixed.

Ubisoft instructed those in the UK wishing to purchase the games to do so via its Uplay store or from physical retailers in the region.

The issue only affects gamers in the UK, as both games will still be available on Steam in other regions.

Ubisoft recently revealed that Far Cry 3 will not support dedicated servers. The game will cast players as Jason Brody, a man stranded on a strange tropical island similar to the setting of the first Far Cry.

The game was originally targeted to launch in September, but was delayed to December 4 over the summer.

I didnt realize that its only  the UK version of steam that dosent have FC3.I live in canada and I can get it on steam here.Strange.

Soooo...

 

Ubisoft, a company that likes to throw the "pirate" name at PC gamers then goes and pulls an issue with Valve and Far Cry 3/Assassins Creed 3 are not available on Steam .. HOWEVER .. they are available on Uplay, Ubisofts own digital distribution (which happens to suck giant hairy monkey balls).

 

So, in trying to push their own distribution they aren't selling on the most popular distribution site (for whatever reasons they may bring up). 

 

And we have people that refuse to use Uplay but love Steam and want these games that will now, you guessed it, pirate them.

 

Well played on screwing yourselves out of sales there Ubisoft, well played indeed.

 @Rawne1980 This comment may sound extreme but it's actually true. I won't be purchasing the game until it's available on steam.

Can we get some journalism going on at GameSpot and not 'churnalism' from press releases or the mouths of marketers. How about digging a little deeper into why this availability issue is happening. Doesn't anyone have any inside contacts in retail / digital distribution that they can squeeze for more details?

Pre-Ordering a game nowadays has become very risky and unpleasant, as the number of nasty surprises at launch increased considerably lately.

agreed, and not to mention nowadays game publishers release  "unfinished" products with bugs and would need patches later on to fix them....UNCOOL...

Sounds more like they are trying push Uplay down our throats just like EA does with origin...

OMG! I don't understand, why would someone pay money for a product they can't use, in many cases, until months in the future. What's the rationale behind pre-ordering a video game? They don't even know WHAT they are paying for. Are people THAT rich? Why has it become so popular?

 @petez34 A lot of people that pre-order games do it so they know they'll get a copy on release day, and possibly for the bonus. If they already know they're going to buy the game anyways, they may as well pre-order, since it doesn't cost them any extra.

 

Now, of course, not getting a big ticket game on release day is going to be rare. On the other hand, smaller niche titles need pre-orders for stores to stock them. My preorder was the only reason my local EB ordered their one copy of Suikoden II back in the day.

 @petez34 Of course they know what they're paying for. What, you think they pre-order stuff based on their box art? Sheesh. Not to mention developers offer plenty of goodies when you pre-order something.

 @Dirty_Window  @Henrique2324  @petez34 That probably had something to do with it, but on the other hand, no bonus even needs to be offered. True arrogance would be to offer no bonus to entice people and just let the cards drop where they may. I honestly think the bonuses are more important to the retailers, since they're almost always store exclusive.

I will never truly understand region locking.  I am in Georgia now and on google play I can't buy music, tv shows or movies, but on itunes I can.  On steam most games I can buy but when I wanted Dark Souls I couldn't buy it because it was region locked.  However I bought the CD key from Amazon, added it to steam, and downloaded it fine.  I was basically told "you want to pay $40 for Dark Souls on steam?  Nope sorry your in a different country so we don't want your money, but we will gladly take your $20 from Amazon for a steam cd key" lol

 @toddx77 steam does not decide on region locking games the developer does.... that is the reason a lot of games are region free on steam and then there are a lot that have it. Developer decides it not steam.

 @toddx77  @Evilbunz They get the same cut no matter where you buy it from, except from them directly, so they honestly don't care.

 

The reason for region locking is due to many reasons. Developer choice, restrictions by countries preventing certain materials to need to be censored or removed, and general market protection strategies. Sales of a game are going to be hurt in one country if its released in another for less, or earlier, with no region protection. At least, that's the general idea behind it.

It's to do with GAME etc. THe cliff notes is that they demand that publishers don't put a game on steam for "x" amount of time so people buy from them. To get around this, users from the UK can buy a digital copy from amazon.com (not .uk) and activate on steam.

You're the one making the claim that doesn't make a lot of sense in a market where the two major video game retailers, GAME and HMV, are both seriously struggling. It's for you to provide evidence to back up your claim. And two year old unsubstantiated articles hardly serve as proof.

 @Dirty_Window  @WheezingJam Funny how not even 5 years ago retailers didn't even care about PC gamers but as soon as Steam gets more users and the digital distribution takes off for PC games everyone wants a piece.  The thing  is that 1. so many of us already have many games on steam so we aren't just going to switch and have download yet any DD service and remember yet another user name or password and 2. When all the other retailers gave up on PC gaming Valve didn't and us PC gamers know that.  Not to mention do retailers even make that much off of PC game sales?  I know Blizzard games rake in a lot for retail but with most PC gamers buying from Steam or other DD services it seems like these store owners are over reacting.  Plus I don't see them having a problem with Sony putting games on the PSN day 1.

Not mentioning that a lot of users from the rest of the world CAN'T CONNECT TO THE GODDAMN MULTIPLAYER OR EVEN GET THE REWARDS ON PC.

 @NTenseify I doubt it, in that case Steam wouldn't have the games available in the rest of Europe. It's still weird how the rest of Europe gets the game on Steam though.

Is there a demo for FC3?I don't believe the reviewers one bit after that Gayrim, wanna test drive it myself before I decide  whether to  purchase or not.

 @consoletardsFU i think it looks pretty good, seems they have fixed most of the problems with far cry 2, ubisoft Montreal developed FC3 so for me it seems to be a pretty solid title, single player anyway, IGN have just poster their 9.0 review for it.

we could probably guess the reason if it was for all countries, but i really don't get why just the UK.

 

if I buy the box am I forced to run this uplay bullshit?

 @jupsto You will still need Uplay every time you want to play the game, you just don't have to have a connection except for the first time to activate the product.

 As far as I know yes you are still required to run Uplay, but only once to activate the product.
