Film company turns horror flick into MMO
Big Screen Entertainment Group begins work on a game tie-in to its upcoming Babysitter Wanted.
The world outside of gaming has taken notice of the financial windfall that can accompany a hit massively multiplayer online role-playing game like World of Warcraft or EverQuest, and it wants in on the action.
Film production company Big Screen Entertainment Group today announced that it has begun working on its first entry into the genre, a PC game based on its upcoming horror film Babysitter Wanted. According to the company's Web site, Babysitter Wanted "revolves around a tormented and tortured young girl whose only concern is the safety of herself and the child she is babysitting. Strange events unfold which lead to a tumultuous climax, leaving the audience hanging by their fingernails."
To adapt that story to an interactive medium, Big Screen is taking a new approach to MMORPG development. The company will start with the first half of the acronym, and then work on finishing up the rest of it later.
"Initially, a working MMO will be released within the next 12 months," the company said in a statement. "The game's platform will be constantly updated offering subscribers new challenges and character options. In phase two, the game will be upgraded to [a] 'Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.' MMORPGs give users the ability to role play inside the realtime virtual world as well as play against others."
Another part of the company's "phase two" includes ports of the game. Big Screen Entertainment "will concurrently make the game compatible for the popular Xbox, PlayStation 3, and comparable platforms as well."
WoW is making lots of money, we want to make lots of money too. If we give you $10 million, can you make an MMO out of our movie? Of course the developer says "yes" because he needs funding for his studio; even if he knows it will be a flop. When are media execs going to realize that throwing a bunch of money into something you know nothing about is typically *not* a good idea? I could see someone making a horror-themed MMO, but this movie probably doesn't have the depth to make a good candidate.
I think it's a really stupid idea to make MMO from this movie, and the name is really silly too. What are they going make? are ppl suppose to play as the babysitter, the baby, and the killer? WTH?? it sounds boring to me already.
Definetely need more informaion on how the heck this would fly.....
an MMO ROLE PLAYING GAME based on a movie which centers on a BABYSITTER? How is that supposed to happen? You play as a monster and scare babysitters around or something?
Well this is odd....how in the WORLD do you make a MMORPG of a horror movie?
HOW THE HELL DO YOU, calm down just leave it alone, you know it's going to fail anyway.
Worldof Warcraft this! Worldof Warcraft that! You know wow is not the only MMO I hated it. Horrible community. How come we cant say, "They are trying to cash in on EQ2" Or GW?
WTF is this game. You create a monster and chase a babysitter around......Def no.
WTF, this has got to be the most retarded idea for a game EVER.
xD that website is hilariously aweful...Tiny Ninjas? This must be a joke.
qiwihead Wait a minute, the dev said, "A working MMO will be released within the next 12 months...In phase two, the game will be upgraded to [a] 'Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game." The stupid devs don't even know what an MMO is! They think there's a difference between MMO and Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. It does not bode well for the game if the devs don't even know the most basic terminology of the genre. ----------------- What the hell are you talking about? Crappiness of this particular game aside, there is a difference between MMO and MMORPG. It just happens the most MMOs out there are RPGs. Games like AutoAssault (again, crappiness aside) can hardly be classified as RPGs.

LOL what a joke....no one will buy it. This game idea will fail
All they see is the money. They know WOW makes tons of money, so they wanna try their shot at it........ with no experience and a crappy premise. Noobs, i swear. >,>
im making my own MMO about going to work and having great adventures at work, like going to lunch and the bathroom afterwards. only 29.99 a month subscription, what a bargain!
Good luck to ya, Big Screen Ent. You've got a challenge on your hands, considering that you don't have any experience in the gaming industry.
WHo in the WOrld is going to buy and play that Garbage????
We can HOPE that they really meant to release this news on April 1st.
Babysitter Wanted... what a joke.
Are you freaking kidding me? Seriously, who thought that one up?
I don't forsee this doing very well...good luck.
jason...tsihihihahaa...
Instant failure
Now, a game based on the classic "Adventures in Babysitting" could be entertaining at least but this... eh.
An MMO about a loan babysitter? HOW?
So what u team up to either kill or protect the baby/child?!?!?!? yeah thats a GREAT idea... freaks
Not only is this an overused plot concept, that was just used for another film too long ago, it doesn't sound like they have any idea what they're doing when making a game like this.
"Initially, a working MMO will be released within the next 12 months" Yeah right, and it's so easy (for a company with no prior experience of the gaming business) to whip up a successful MMO in a couple of months, one that later will be "upgraded to an MMORPG"...sounds like they have no idea what they're getting themselves into...
Turning a film into a game can be a success. Turning a film into an MMO is a guranteed flop.
There I was, thinking this day couldn't get worse... Why even waste the CDs/DVDs this game will be burned on? xD
yea that'll work. not.

This sounds like that Gizmondo debacle where someone is looking to steal the investor's money and never actually come out with anything.
yet another game trying to cash in on WoW
I think this will succeed or fail depending on how this game actually plays. If it's something original and well done it could be a hit. It could appeal to people who aren't really fans of the typical MMO games out there now. If it's just a online Resident Evil clone then it will fail miserably.
Resident Evil MMO!
This sounds terrible to me. A Horror MMOG sounds awesome, but one based on a movie? Bad, bad idea. When will movie companies learn to stay the f*ck away from game development? LMAO.
And I though Barbie games were the worst. This game sounds so lame not even my little sister would play it... LAME LAME LAME
I give them credit for stepping away from the norm, but I don't think it will work.
I want Jason MMO
ooo it sounds interesting, although it would be very difficult to make and succeed. BTW is it me or are MMO's becoming too popular. I mean EA are already getting their dirty hands on warhammer online to beat WOW (try to and fail) and to make money. In a few years there will be too many MMO which means people will spread out on playing each game and they will all end up deserted games and lose their fun factor! *deep breath* Anyway im currently playing WoW and am loving it! I hope the game doesnt get crshed by warhamer online.
Sounds like someone is going to lose alot of money...my guesss is it will be the people making this stupid game...
This sounds like a joke.
They're all arriving too late. WoW's coat tails were ripe for riding last year. Not anymore. Everything between now and the arrival of true next-gen MMOs will sputter and stumble. Nobody's leaving WoW or GW any time soon, especially with two big expansions on the way. The genre will flood with free-to-play micro-transaction based turds like ROSE and other totally brainless grindhouse pulp imports. Counting on games like Huxley to give the genre a much-needed jolt of originality next year.
A horror MMO sounds very intriguing to me. If this could be done right... I think it could be pretty cool. A horror MMORPG sounds even better. But given the people making this it probably won't work out. But who knows, stranger things have happened.
Do I smell another flop? I think I do...
So it's basically When a Stranger Calls but probably supernatural. GG
cool i think....on second thought definately not
Hmmm, is it just me or does this sound like a really bad idea?
This will die a slow and long death methinks.
