GameStop considering selling vintage games

I hope they really do but keep prices with in reason. Right now The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is going for $150. That is just nuts O.o

They should never have gotten out of that business to begin with. Back when they were EB and Funcoland, you could find all kinds of NES and SNES games there- I once saw a copy of Contra at Funcoland for $60.

Can't GameStop start stocking up on games from the previous generation again? It's getting really hard to find PS2 and GameCube games nowadays. They have a better chance of doing that than selling these vintage games. GameStop isn't meant for that kind of business.

I'll buy my "vintage" games off Ebay any day over giving that money to Gamestop, based just on how little I'm sure they bought those games from the original owners. 

This is the trend that I'm noticing, specially on eBay, prices of old NES games (and others) have been skyrocketing as of late.  I think that GameStop (conspiracy theory) isn't just "considering", they're stocking up, how many people are actually buying old NES games out there?

lol they will probably sell more of those then new games.  New games are for noobs and short bus children.

Gamestop should not get in to the aftermarket. That is, the collectable game market. because they will charge collector's prices for these titles. If Amazon private seelers and ebay sellers do this, fine, THAT is the aftermarket. Not a retail store.

Sorry GameStop but I've already found where I could buy vintage games for affordable prices, it's called the flea market and it offered better deal than what you'll ever had. $150 for EarthBound, I got mine for under $40.

I think the title should more appropriately be named "Gamestop considering buying your vintage games for $3 and selling them for $25".

If they sell these games for a reasonable price, why not? Of course, they probably wont, and 90% of people wont fall for it.

I wonder how much GameStop is going to sell these vintage games for? Probably $55 like they do with just released pre-owned games. Of course they'll only give you, like, a dime for these vintage games because they're so old. Bastards.

Most UK highstreet retailers have experimented with retro or 'vintage game' sales with mostly disasterous results - mostly because the retailers stock consists of shoddy quality pre-owned titles (some disc's are so badly scratched they are irrepairable) and consoles that sometimes are only fit for the dustbin -

Gamestop getting into the vintage game sales. fair enough. I don't think that Gamestop has a positive enough reputation to make a go of this. Amazon and Ebay have to much of a head start. Gamestop might consider opening Gamestop Classic stores in large cities that would support it.

When I scrapped all of my PS1 games along with the system (XBOX was just out), they offered me between .25c-$5.00 for my games (had around 50).  I wish I remember the games that they offered .25c for, but I remember that Resident Evil 3 was the game that got me the most.  It had only been out for maybe 6 months. It might have been EB games, but I pretty have pretty much loathed these types of stores ever since.  I can only imagine what those games I had would be worth now.  Probably would get nearly the same offers, if not worse. 

You're just now figuring this out? FuncoLand used to sell old games, until you came into the picture. Man, I miss FuncoLand.

That's all well and good, but I'm sure they'll take them in for trades too, but if they do it like they used to (well, Electronics Boutique did anyways), they'll be buying based off of age and selling and marking up based off of rarity. I remember exactly how it used to go...

Yeah, but I'm still bitter because there isn't satisfactory backward compatibility...So I hope they plan on selling vintage SYSTEMS!

didn't they used to sell older games?... I seem to remember going to gamestop to get snes and nes carts and the occasional n64 cart after funcoland went out.  then one day those games just disappeared.  it's probably best that they stay out of the old game market.  it would just drive up prices for old games.  unless they plan to sell things like ecco the dolphin and toy story genesis carts for $0.50-$2.00, they shouldn't even bother.

To me I never understood why Gamestop doesn't have older gen games if they are supposed to specialize in USED games.  To me, that is the only time that I will buy used; if it is totally unavailable new.

I don't think that they will sell many if they don't have any at all on hand in their stores though.  If someone walks in to a store to buy it, they want it then and there.

why so they can over charge us for vintage games.. sorry but i already have a store i go to for my vintage games...

So they buy your original Zelda NES cartridge for 1$ because, "Nobody really plays it anymore, and there aren't many working systems out there.  A dollar is all I can offer."

Then a sticker gets slapped on it with a 25$ price tag as soon as you leave.

fantastic.  vintage games are great.  only problem is.. now I play them all through mod'd pc versions

I remember EB Games used to do this, until Gamestop bought them out or merged with them or whatever, and my local EB Games changed into a Gamestop, then they basically stopped selling those older games which sucked :(

Smart choice by them to do this.  I guess when they decided to stop accepting all those vintage games years ago, they're really kicking themselves now.

I just hope their prices are cheaper than the local vintage stores here.

People still have 'em, people still buy 'em. Smart move, if they can get it going.

There's also the issue of what they, as a company, are willing to pay for an old game. Why would I sell them my mint copy of Suikoden II when I can get $100+ going peer to peer? Gamestop will have to hire a wave of employees just to keep on top of researching the literally hundreds of thousands of titles with different going rates.

Funny, isn't that what GameStop used to do? I remember seeing them pack games from the NES, SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive, and PSOne before they only carried this gen (PS3, 360, Wii) and last (GameCube, PS2, XBOX, Dreamcast).

I hope they do. But I also hope they don't charge so much. Their prices for older games sucks!

I'm always excited about new Metal Gear game announcements, but I dunno how I feel about and open world one. If anything, though, I have total faith if Kojima himself is on board.

It's a good idea but I don't think they'll do it right. You'll probably buy a vintage game from GameStop.com and have no way to tell if it's complete, good to poor condition, disc only or what. I think it's a better idea for in-store. There's a great, locally owned videogames shop where I live called The Lost Ark, and it's awesome. They don't accept games in bad shape and they have everything from the beginning to present. People wanna know what they're getting if they buy vintage.
