GameStop to close 250 stores in 2013

I once walked into a GS and this fat nerdy Asian female employee was trying to get me to buy a used SR3 instead of a new one. I told her no. She said, it's 5 bucks cheaper. I kept telling her no, I want a new one. And then she was like, can I ask you why? I said, I want to support the developer just to get her off my back. She then says, well, what about supporting the store?

Are all GS employees brainwashed like this? I then come back a few months later (this store is within a walk from my house) and she's at it with other customers, yeah you can trade games in for purchase toward a new system, like this man's doing. It's pretty cool.

I just about barfed. 

Ok if you are going to close one in Sarnia please close the one near Walmart and keep the one in the Lambton Mall.  Please ....

and for the people that are complaining about GameStop ripping you off well learn to shop and not be a bad

seriously learn to read, understand and take advantage of good promos

and also realize that with less competition Best Buy, Future Shop and other stores like that will have less reason to give us better prices sometimes so we need GameStop around ...

I cant stand gamestop.

Close them all. I prefer Amazon.

As long as they do not close my favorate store(which is close to my house) and cause people to loose their jobs, than it probably for the best.

And, did everyone skip right past the fact that they are opening new stores as well?  I'm no Gamestop defender, but I have frequently said they get more hate than they deserve and people that complain about their trade values shouldn't sell their games back.

That sucks, but at the same time it's stupid for corporate to have decided that it was a great idea to have two different GameStop stores open just down the road from each other... Or literally across the street...

Sad news... next gen most game stores will be dead. I will download all my games on PS store... everything comes to an end.

Losers, I respected them when they were EB. They became soul suckers. I remember when you could trade in games for a console. Now it's just garbage and they RIP YOU OFF EVERYTIME. BURN BABY BURN!!

The beginning of the end of that ungodly store. I feel bad for those who may be losing their job though. When the last store is ready to close, I would love to see all of the former employees that they've screwed over the years return and burn it to the ground.

YES! Gamestop is dying, and Digital games are booming. Cheaper games are on the horizon with high production. Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are going to have to sell their hardware through online shopping sites like Ebay, and Amazon. Or do it Apple style, and make their own stores around the world.

Ebay is the best I guess. Amazon's sellers second best. I bought from EBgames a long time ago.

Don't like Gamestop? 

Just make  your trading in Ebay, Craigslist, or Amazon.

I miss funcoland and eb games. Gone the way of the movie rental store. Let's call this the day the videogame died.

And so the downfall of Gamestop due to the digital age is beginning, or just getting worse. I will always loathe the day I cannot buy a physical copy anymore.

oh noez it's the epidemic of GameStop stores.  Before we know it we will have ENTIRE SHOPPING MALLZ filled with Gameshit, I mean GameStop.

Not surprising the are simply too many of the in one area.

 I have around 10 within a 15-20 minute drive from my house.(no exaggeration in fact I am pretty sure it is closer to 12 stores) There are even two in the same shopping mall...

So what you're saying is I can no longer go to the same store on both the upper and lower levels of my local mall and two shopping centers less than 10 minutes from the mall (one being 5 min if that depending on where you're parked)?  This is a sad day indeed.

If only Gamestop would just die now and independent game shops weren't so rare.

Classic example of overdistention.  They simply have too many stores.  Here in Aurora, CO we have one in the Aurora Mall and a standalone store just a couple minutes away.

Gamestops biggest problem IMO is they missed the boat with old games and dvds. There stores have too much open space for stupid game stations and cardboard signs, or the stupid shelfs stocked up nothing but new coming soon games put in ugly printed up covers. 

Local place I buy games at that is local owned, is the same size as most all Gamestops are. It sells 100s of NES, SNES, Sega, N64, 1000s of dvds, 100s of bluray, 100s of PS1, Gamecube, PS2, XBOX1, and as many used 360 and PS3 games as any Gamestop does. And they get 10x the customers as Gamestop. They also sell all the old consoles and controllers and so much more. Still a good market for the old games. Soon as Funcoland/Gamestop ditched all the old N64, PS1, SNES games it all went south. I can remember in the early 2000s still buying Super Mario Allstars at a Gamestop. 

Gamestop stores now just have too much of nothing, between cardboard signs, game stations of demos no one plays, or whole racks for coming soon games, its just a joke, oh and where the hell is the PC games? No more used XBOX1 games, no Gamecube games. They don't offer much. Oh and the horrid used DVD selection what a JOKE!

And the trade in for game rate doesn't help much either. Nor does it help when they sell used games at the same price you can buy them new on black Friday. Or how about Madden costing around $55 used for a good while, and then you would need to pay an extra $10 to buy the online pass, yeah I bet they sold many of those...
