I hope it doesn't get delayed again, but I am so excited for this that I can wait a few more months.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier delayed to May
Ubisoft's squad-based shooter now expected May 22 in North America, May 24 in UK; extra development time to be used to "refine the experience"; PC launch at a later date.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier's long road to release was just extended. Today, Ubisoft announced that the squad-based shooter will not make its previously scheduled March 2012 debut. Instead, Future Soldier is now slated to arrive on May 22 in North America, followed by a May 24 release in the United Kingdom.
At launch, Future Soldier will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC iteration of the shooter will arrive at a later date. However, gamers won't need to wait until May to play the title, as an Xbox 360 and PS3 multiplayer beta will go live in April.
Explaining the delay, Ubisoft said, "These extra few months will allow Ubisoft's creative teams more time to refine the experience and deliver a game that fully achieves the level of excellence that defines the Ghost Recon franchise."
Today's Future Soldier delay is far from the first such release date alteration for the game. The title was first teased in January 2009 for an early-2010 release but was later delayed to a fourth-quarter 2010 launch. Since then, it has been pushed to the first quarter of 2011 and then again to March 2012.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier gets its name from the Future Soldier programs being conducted by the US and its NATO allies. The initiative, currently part of the US Army's Brigade Combat Team Modernization Program, focuses on outfitting infantrymen with networked communications and high-tech equipment. The third-person shooter will have a cooperative mode, and its gameplay will focus on both stealth and heavy action.
