Tomb Raider was the only game at e3 last year that impressed me in terms of graphics and technical presentation.. Like a little step up from other current generation games on that front, which we don't really see anymore because developers push them to their limit now they've been out for so long. Its a superficial thing, but its made me remember the game. Interested to see what else the game has to offer apart from that one stage demo sequence
[UPDATE] Square Enix confirms action series director Cory Barlog hired on at California studio to work on Tomb Raider reboot and unannounced title.
Crystal Dynamics has hired God of War II director Cory Barlog, parent company Square Enix confirmed to GameSpot today.
Barlog is best known for his contributions to Sony's God of War action franchise. He served as game director for God of War II before leaving Sony Santa Monica in 2007, though he would also contribute to the PSP editions of the franchise, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta.
[UPDATE] Square Enix confirmed to GameSpot today that Barlog is now employed at Crystal Dynamics.
Following his departure from Sony, Barlog worked on several projects, including a Mad Max game alongside writer-director George Miller (Mad Max, Happy Feet).
@shadowhunter0 I know they probably won't, but I wouldn't dismiss the possibility. Past GoW games can't help sell new consoles (this coming gen, I mean). They wouldn't port new iterations, but past games like 1 or 2 have already sold in droves, and have already done what they could for the PS3/PS2. As hardware movers, they have little to no value anymore.
Always loved the Tomb Raider games, but after my borderline gay fetish for Nathan Drake I don't know what Lara can do to win me back.. :( I'll no doubt buy it anyway, but Drake will always be the champ to me now I'd imagine.
@parrot_of_adun the fact still remains they haven't done it on any of their games and probably never will unless they stop making consoles
@shadowhunter0 At this point the install base for the PS3 removes that issue. Early in its life cycle, perhaps, but now the PS3 is nearing its end. Now, the only thing likely to prevent it would be the probable outcome of a cost/benefit analysis. But if they were to assess the demand, and it turned out that the projected income would outweigh the cost, I can't imagine they wouldn't go for it. The problem is that such an assessment is difficult, and it would likely be a gamble, not that PS3 sales would drop.
@parrot_of_adun well they haven't done with with any of they other games and the mostly likely they never will and the pc is actually kinda in competition with the ps3 if they start making their games for pc then less people will buy the ps3
Great news for CD. I have a ton of respect for Barlog. GoW2 is not only the best game in the series but it's also one of the best games ever made, IMO.
@BibiMaghoo i Think same unnounced project is About Kain, N raziel i liked him too :) could imagine Kain Gow style:)
@shadowhunter0 It wouldn't be all that surprising if they ported them to PC under the appropriate Sony brand. After all, the platform isn't represented by a direct competitor, unlike say, the xbox. Not that it's likely, but if they saw a significant rise in interest for a PC version, they just might.
Amazing full of awesomeness , release day buy for me. The only problem is that Lara doesn't look like angelina here. Really want her to look like Angelina.
@true_gamer007 that would never happen since Sony owns the rights to the God of War franchise and if you so badly want to play them go out and buy a ps3, which I recommend since the ps3 is an awesome system, and play them that way
Cinematic Tomb Raider...... That part where Lara was running through a collapsing cave while the all the player did was rapidly press a button killed me on the inside...
I can't help but notice people are saying Laura and even typing Laura, her name is Lara, or is it different in other countries? (I'm Australian btw)
CRYSTAL DYNAMICS,Give us a new Tomb Raider 2. This is the best game of the series Tomb Raider. You have succeeded with this Anniversary
I not sure when he was hire but the game has been in development for a while, so I this the release day might be delay, but it's fine as long as it's a great game
Ew! I know I am the only one who will think/say this, but I did not like the god of war series. It was a really cool concept, and it was developed really REALLY well... but the circular combat was LAME, and the repetitive QTE-esque events became mentally tiring. (Killing minotaur after minotaur by pushing circle a 100 times each for instance.) But then again... I don't see why everyone loves Halo or COD that much either. They seem like every shooter I've seen for the past 15 years. So in closing... I guess I just don't want your God of War in my Tomb Raider.
Omg I can't wait for Tomb Raider! I really hope they release a gameplay video showing off the combat as opposed to just quick time events, anyone else agree?
Wouldn't the new Tomb Raider be mostly done by now? I don't know how much of the core game he would have an influence on. I have been waiting to see another Barlog game since GOW II.
This is very good news, now we can have real improvements in-game combat, more realistic, less mechanic. Only thing i don't like is it isn't Jolie :(
I was already really excited about the new Tomb Raider reboot. Having the director of God of War 2 onboard and helping out only makes me even more impatient to see the game.
I was worried about God of War II since Cory Barlog was the 'new guy' directing the game. However, I was blown away when I played the game. He did an amazing job.
Good pick up for CD. Looking forward to the new Tomb Raider game. It looks interesting, to say the least.
