New York Yankees captain slides onto cover of 2K Sports' MLB 2K7; game slated for "late winter" release on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox, PS2, PSP.
Accolades are nothing new to the storied New York Yankees. However, for a team so used to winning (and spending so much money), the team is going through a major drought. Yankees owner George Steinbrenner can at least take solace in one thing--his players own the covers of the 2K series of baseball games.
Though the series has undergone different publishers (Sega, 2K Sports), different developers (Visual Concepts, Kush Games, Blue Shift), and different names (World Series Baseball, ESPN Major League Baseball, and Major League Baseball), the past five years have seen the familiar overlapping NY on the cover. Jason Giambi covered the 2003 and 2004 editions of the series, and Derek Jeter covered 2005, 2006, and now 2007.
2K Sports today confirmed that the Yankees captain and All-Star shortstop will be the cover athlete and spokesperson for the annual baseball game for the third year in a row. In 2006, Jeter batted .343 and won his third consecutive Gold Glove.
Major League Baseball 2K7 will be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable in "late winter." 2K Sports will release more information on new features and enhancements to the game closer to the game's release. Until then, see how the game is shaping up with GameSpot's recent preview.
I' m a Red Sox fan, and I think that Manny Ramirez should have been on the cover, but I understand why Jeter is on the front: consistency.
Anyone who says Derek Jeter sucks has a mental retardation. No lie. Jeter is 3 time gold glove winner (in a row), 7 time all-star, World Series MVP, and has 4 (count them) 4 WORLD CHAMPION RINGS!!!!! But he probably shouldn't be on the cover 3 times in a row, I don't mind, but not everyone is a Yankee fan.
Jeter again? Jeter sucks and shouldn't be on the cover 3 times back to back. It's bad enough twice in a row. There are other players in the MLB. 2K Sports full of Yankee fans? This is complete full ****.
epidemy??? Try Epitome wow...at least you get an a for effort in trying to sound it out. But come on save the ten dollar words for when you get a dictionary. Hell...did you even think about using the check spelling button?
@ SuperSayinSean2 who said: "Yankees= CHOKE!!!!!! the epidemy of how not to run a ball club go A's" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First off, I am NOT a Yankees fan. I like the Phils, but secondly, are you kidding me? Not the way to run a ball club? How many serie's titles do the Yanks have? 26 or so? The A's have nowhere near that. Billy Beane has done a wonderful job w/ what he's had to work with. But, I still don't see any rings. The A's are perpetually "Next Year's" team.
@ russians_r_sexy who said: "I think they should find someone else for once. Maybe like...Grady Sizemore....or Travis Hafner maybe?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want sexy you need to go with Ryan Howard or J-Roll for the cover. Maybe even Cole Hamels or Pat " The Bat". Basically any Philly player would do the job ;)
Jeter is a phenominal player no doubt, but the yankees are a bunch of overpaid underachivers, the Red Sox have got them beat this year without contest. The best move they made was to lose the big fraud and that still wont help
yea he did do great this year....except for the tigers blowing them away GO TIGERS!!!!! Gary Sheffield will look good in the old english D
I think they should find someone else for once. Maybe like...Grady Sizemore....or Travis Hafner maybe? :D
Derek Jeter is one of the greatest baseball players and should have won MVP. Here is a clip of a great game for jeter http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/scripts/mediaplayer/mp_tpl.jsp?w_id=521136&w=2006/open/tp/archive10/100306_detnya_jeter_reel_tp_350.wmv&pid=mlb_tp&gid=2006/10/03/detmlb-nyamlb-1&mid=200610041698342&cid=mlb&fid=mlb_tp350&v=2&mType=w&urlstr=&murl=
The whole Red Sox and Yankees thing I think is terrible for the game of baseball. It only makes people that could be interested about baseball become less interested hearing a bunch of fanboys argue. I can't stand when they play each other because that's the only game shown on tv, and since they play each other more than any other teams play, they are on all the time. In reality both teams had a very average year and will probably have very average years next year. I hate the fact that Boston went and spent so much money on one pitcher (a terrible thing for the sport). Next years teams to watch won't be the Yankees and Red Sox. Fans next year will get the most entertainment by watching the AL central division. With the Tigers, Twins, White Sox, and Indians all making great strides to take the division. One of those teams will take the wild card away from the Yanks or Sox (either of which will make it to the series). Both teams have fans just spring up over night. I've been an Indians fan since the early ninty's from when they sucked, to went to be one of the best teams, to being one of the worst teams, to rebuilding themselves again. The Red Sox and Yankees have turned baseball into nothing but battle of bank accounts. As for the game.....it better come out by the time pitchers and catchers report.
whata suprise this turned in to a Yankee vs. Redsox... so i might as well add to it. yankees and jeter = awesome redsoxs and ortiz = suck
Jeter and the Yanks suck big time.Everyone knows Big Papi or Manny shoulda been on the cover.Redsox all the way this year baby!!!
I surely hope late winter means early 2007, like within days (before or after) opening day. I would refuse to buy the title at the end of the season and spend my money elsewhere.
The Yankees wil win it in 07' and in the process embarrass the Red Sux once again like they did last year! GO YANKS!!! Listen, Red Sox fans are simply clueless and bitter. That is why I enjoy everytime NY has downed them in the post season. Cry babies, Ortiz doesn't deserve the cover nor MVP. He needs to get himself on a Slimfast cover. As far as the game it needs to be more World Series and less All Star baseball by Acclaim.
Hopefully it will be better than last season's game. Sony's MLB the Show was the best baseball game last season. Can't wait for the PS3 version.
YES...I'm a Yankees fan but I wilI defend anyone who is a good player and gives 110% every game regardless of what team they are on. Unfortunately not everyone is that type of player. Can you say that about Manny? Or Bonds? Or even Sheffield for that matter when he was on the Yankees? I respect players that chase down every ball, run down the 1st base line at full speed whether it's a ground ball or pop up.
Stupid New York Yankees.......They're worse than pork.Hey willz822,i'm a sox fan and thank you for the compliment:)
You all must be Sox fans. They're the worst fans in the world. They're rude, think they know everything about baseball when they haven't got a clue. Ortiz didn't even have a good season let alone a great season. Why should that overweight pig, who doesn't even play a position, get the cover? And since when has Jeter choked? He's the best SS in the game and always gives up his body to make a play. He hit .343 and is a career .300 hitter. Yes he had 12 errors but he won the gold glove because he had less errors than all other SS in the AL. Please re-read that statement again. "LESS ERRORS THAN ALL OTHER SS IN THE AL." Did you guys actually think there was another criteria in deciding who gets the gold glove? I'm not saying Morneau or Howard didn't deserve to be on the cover but do you people even realize that it's the developer's decision to put whoever they choose on the cover? How is Jeter overrated? Please back up your statements with facts. Man, talk about fanboyism at it's worst. I feel sick to my stomach knowing that you morons are the future of this world.
LOL...the company I work for makes/sales a cologne that Mr. Deters designed. Selling very well as-a-matter-of-fact. Guy must be filthy rich by now... Dc
well, this is just another sports cover that i need to photoshop. Jeter sucks balls. his team cant win championships anymore, and 2k sports should be ashamed. o well, at least the curse of the cover star can last another year. Maybe, he'll even steal the title of MVP from Ortiz again. Papi's the one who deserves the cover, not a little **** who embodies the word "choke".
it's hard to really read this story with that terrible 3d model. ugh, my stomach is pushing up my meal through my throat...... just reminded me why everyone really loves the Mii in WiiSports instead.
I am a Red Sox fan, and I believe Ryan Howard should be on the cover. I also believe it should different players every year. And for a Yankees fan to call Morneau over-rated and say Jeter isnt? Give me a break, he is the only baseball player who can have over 12 errors at his possition and win these "gold gloves" I smell bullshyte.
Getting little tired of the bais in NY's favor all the time. Did anyone notice that there are a lot of other very good MLB players out there? Not dissing Jeter but it would make more sense to put someone else OUTSIDE of NY on the cover for a change. Unless of course they plan on only selling games inside NY.
Blah Blah Blah, How many covers have Derek Jeter was on in the last 8 years? about 20!! im bored of seeing this yankee on the cover. in my opioion, i think they should've had Barry Bonds and change the game name to Juiced Baseball 2007!!
DUDE! This is why am with Sony. The game doesn't even come out until the SEASON IS OVER! And there's no Wii or DS version. WTF
