Series creator to spill details about next mainline entry in tactical espionage action franchise later this month.
It is no surprise that more Metal Gear Solid is on the way. Series creator Hideo Kojima has even alluded to the next mainline title in the past, but the fifth game in the series has now been confirmed via a teaser for the next issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine in the UK.
Kojima is set to occupy the cover of the next issue of OPM, and along with that comes word that he will be openly discussing his plans for Metal Gear Solid 5. No other details outside of the game's confirmation were revealed.
Recent rumors have pinned Kojima's next project as powered by the Fox Engine, which was publicly shown for the first time during Konami's Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference this year. Beyond MGS5, the tease reveals that Kojima will also be discussing "Project Ogre," his desire to kill off Solid Snake, and what life after Metal Gear may hold.
Metal Gear Solid 4 came out in 2008, and teases about the next installment in the series have persisted since then. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP landed last year, and in the run up to its release, it was heralded by Kojima himself as a "full-scale sequel." Metal Gear Solid: Rising is also still under development and is expected to resurface at next month's Video Game Awards.
For those who may not be quite up to date with Kojima's signature series, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection--containing Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Peace Walker--hit shelves last week. For more on the remastered collection, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
I think it's kojima's series and he should do what he thinks is best for the title and to entertain his fans.
While Snake still sells it would be foolish the kill him off entirely, or the series for that matter. It would seem more wise to create a new franchise separately if he's bored, but work on multiple projects simultaneously. Perhaps the times are harder than would allow that type of effort budget and resources wise, but I still think it's foolish to kill a game that still sells well and makes profit.
It wouldn't hurt pull another MGS2, and have Snake appear in the backdrop of the story theme again, perhaps introduce a female lead charters this time for a change, or even make Raiden a more battle seasoned character to change up his looks and overall image.
I'd love a cool/sexy female operative... who can go stealth with all the high-tech stealth gear via street clothes, then when needed she can strap on the top secret battle suit etc... and throw down on the battle field. Maybe that's too much for most MGS fans, but I'd welcome that.
no i dont think kojima so stupid to blow the story like that for money i mean he learned from mgs 2 it was ahuge fail then came the twin snakes
i think he will come up with a new char but for me mgs is over at mgs 4 with retirment of snake and destruction of the patriots
rest in peace snake
I actually prefer it to be on the XBox, but wouldn't mind it on the PS3 either. MGS is "literally" a solid series to own.
@dbam987 lol so you prefer a dumbed down 8GB DVD level based game? did you like RE5, DMC4 and all the other pitiful bribed dumbed down fake HD dvd level pieces of garbage that XBROKE has ushered into so called HD scale gaming? I bought the deluxe FF XIII.2 only to realize it's yet another dumbed down compromised game, sure it fills up 1 Blu-ray just like the previous game, but they dumbed down the graphics to make it fit on 3 DVD's again but tried to make it SEEM longer and less linear, didn't work, the game suffered immensely once again due to XBROKE.
I hope Kojima focusses on PS3 and PS3 alone as the target platform for a true HD MGS5 gaming premium experience on consoles. I only hope that his team has truly figured out the best ways to program for the PS3, and didn't pay any attention to XBROKE/DVD/quasi-PC gaming.
Huge fan of the series, just got a PS3 and am finally playing through MGS4 for the first time. Can't wait for 5 hope it comes out to the PS3 though
MGS4 is cool. But not real, I mean it's got a really good story. (But you do get hurt in real life, not just eat to get health) :) Still it's really good in guns, items and STORY.
as opposed to hiding under cover for about 5 seconds and miraculously able to take another volley of bullets to the face?
I really would like to know what happens to raiden and how he turns Cyborg! Its a shame they canelled that and started Metal Gear Rising: Reavengance.
Christ alive i was waiting for this MGS is easily one of the best franchises today, the MGS4 finale was simply great and i bought yesterday MGS Collection so i'm pretty excited altough i can't see a way of fitting Snake as he was pretty old in Guns of the Patriots...
I don't mind it being multi-platform, but only in such a way that does not compromise the high quality MGS4 had from being PS3 exclusive. On a side note, is MGS5 even legit? Someone posted this link earlier: http://www.giantbomb.com/news/turns-out-metal-gear-solid-5-talk-was-a-false-alarm/3819/ Can anyone with the latest copy of OPM UK tell us what it says?
I just got into the series and am currently playing Snake Eater. The Series is one of the best out there. Rising and This are now on my radar.
Maybe Solid Snake and Otacon on Philantrophy adventures? Ocelot-Liquid, Solidus (as president of the US), Meryl still alive. better yet... a Young Solid Snake. (And raiden out of scene). Dead cell and FoxHound still on functions (Chinaman!?!?!?). Zero working with the AI. Reconstruction of Big Boss. Ocelot's tranformation and can talk with the death (Liquid Snake) because his father's genes (sorrow) etc etc etc
I don't really see where this story could be going, but that aside, I hope this is exclusive, not because the whole gaming community doesn't deserve to play it, just because it would probably be developped on xbox, and honestly the ps3 is much more powerful. Imagine god of war 3 or even mgs4 back in 2008 developed on xbox... They would be nowhere near as good as they are... If it's multi platform please originally develop it on ps3, i bet Kojima and co can come up with graphics on par with battlefield 3, seeing as though msg4's (2008) graphics are better than mw3's (2011, in case you forget) graphics
I love Metal Gear, not quite the hardcore fan but how far are they willing to go? Number 4 was a nice send off but just like Deus Ex, could 5 secretly be a prequel?
I'm assumedly a Playstation fanboy (well - not really "boy" anymore) but on this I have to agree with those who think that MGS5 should be multiplatform - MGS is too good a game to be the exclusive of half of the gaming comunity, bar those who have the two platforms. The only problem I see is if the PS version had to be of lower quality because the game was developed with the Xbox as the base platform. In my opinion, MGS4 would not have been so nice and sophisticated had it been developed for the Xbox back in 2008. Perhaps this is a powerful reason after all for Kojima to agree to have MGS5 as an exclusive.
big boss in mgs 5 if u finishd 4 part inthe end snake ,s dad came and hez the real big boss like his mother in part 3 wt u think guys..
guys snake wont die like b4 in mgs4 bt whr the hel ocalet went snak left it in mgs 3 snake eater he jumpd thrw the plane and never km in 4part
@Nwalker855 I actually didn't post this comment by bro did under my account. and you are correct sir :)
@BryanParksSuper It's too bad they already confirmed any game running on the Fox engine will be multiplat, huh? Sigh, fanboyism...
@WafflePrime: Considering the announcement will be made in a publication called Official PLAYSTATION Magazine, it's probably a fair bet that MGS5 will be PS exclusive. Also Sony would be the one to take back Resident Evil, not Nintendo. And you were wrong about Portal, it was always multi-platform.
@BryanParksSuper - So I'm guessing Nintendo should take back all of the Resident Evil games? Should Mass Effect 3 be 360 only? Many great games have been spread to different systems. Final Fantasy, Mass Effect, Resident Evil, Soul Calibur, (I'm pretty sure about this one) Portal, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and so on. Be happy that the series is spreading to more people and can create an even bigger fanbase, not selfish and greedy. It makes you sound like a total fanboy
Excellent!! I am always happy to hear about MGS. This series really redefined the whole epsionage/action genre when MGS1 arrived on PS years ago. Hideo Kojima has such a brilliant way of storytelling and u never know what he is gonna throw at ya next. Which makes me anxiously wonder what MGS5 will have in store for us!!
MGS games have and will always be good, in a way im happy that Kojima wants to kill Snake off, not because I dislike the character - hell he's probably my favorite computer game icon ever - Its just all storys HAVE to come to an end. I dont want this series to just GO ON AND ON for no reason other than i fell that Snake needs to be in every MGS game. In fact, it would be a perfect end to a perfect series of games, truly an emotional rollercoaster knowing Kojima and his story telling skills. I can't wait for it!
@mack10 @XanderZane sorry dude but none of that has anything to do with closing down the MGS series. Konami is big enough to take on any of those projects and if they see a profit in them they probably would. Thankfully they see a profit in an MGS5 and they're going ahead with it because I can't wait for this one. ************************************************************* I never said it did. Kojima is the one who said Snake was suppose to be killed off. So it's pretty obvious that he wants the series to end so he can work on other projects. I think Konami is the ones trying to keep the MGS series going so they can continue to make a decent profit. They would definitely make money off a new Z.O.E. & Suikoden.
NO! MGS5: Snake*Lives*Forever (adapting a new tech using brain wave transference on a 1st perfect human form of Metal Gear). That is the next title Kojima or I swear I`m crossing the street and shuffle your face between my boobs! ^___^
