This is great news, Hideo is a master of his craft, and I expect nothing but excellence. Glad to hear he has been doing alright, and busy at work. I am absolutely drooling for a brand new mgs!
Kojima unveiling Fox Engine August 30
Metal Gear creator says he's finally ready to take the wraps off the tech he's been working on since Metal Gear Solid 4.
Hideo Kojima is nearly ready to show the world what he's been working on for the last four years. In a piece on the official PlayStation Blog commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Metal Gear series, Kojima revealed that he's planning to show off his new Fox Engine technology August 30.
While Kojima didn't say how the unveiling would take place or if he'd be showing off the first game built on the Fox Engine, he did specify that the event would be held in Japan. After recognizing problems with the Japanese style of making games, Kojima said he spent a year and a half visiting studios worldwide to refine the development process.
"The Fox Engine is nearly finished, but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along," Kojima said, adding, "Production studios in Japan are nearly extinct, a fact that we have recognized for nearly 10 years, and although the Fox Engine is not finished we are ready to show what it can do."
The first game built on the Fox Engine is being developed under the name Project Ogre. Kojima first talked about the project last year, saying the development team was still in the planning phase, experimenting with ideas and conducting research. He has since said players would be able to explore the game's world freely, and should still be able to find new things to keep them playing even 100 hours into the game.
Kojima is also planning a new Zone of Enders game, and is confirmed to be building Metal Gear Solid 5 on the Fox Engine.
