Riot Games reports hackers accessed users' personal data on multiple European databases, says no credit card info was taken.
League of Legends has joined the ranks of online services to have their users' personal information stolen. This weekend, developer Riot Games confirmed the news on its official forums, saying hackers had obtained access to multiple European databases.
According to the developer, the attackers took names, e-mail addresses, and dates of birth, as well as encrypted versions of passwords, security questions, and users' answers. Riot stressed that no credit card or payment information was obtained in the attack and specified that user names and security Q&A information were obtained only for "a small number of players." Additionally, the company no longer uses security questions in the account recovery process.
In addition to apologizing for the breach, Riot Games said it has fixed the security hole that was exploited in this case. It has also e-mailed those players affected and is recommending all players change their account passwords.
if my Identity gets stole, so what.
I don't really care. I love LoL and some douchebag hackers aren't gonna stop me from loving my game.
Plus I have bank insurance and I can live without money for a week or so. My internet bill is already paid for

What if this 'hack' was but a ploy using which Riot hoped to get back inactive EUNE and west players, making them check in and maybe start a game? Riot has been making a lot of gritty dark characters that don't mesh well with the rest of the roster. I got used to the offbeat, somewhat cartoony design not taking itself too seriously. These new characters are off-putting. But the real deal breaker for me is the goddamn community. The game is fine.
This is their subtle way of telling you to play dota 2. It's less casual and not pay to win.
Go do the steam survey. You can thank me later.
@Tremblay343 Pay to win? have you ever played League of Legends?
@Krauklis Well I never played DotA 2 (But I want to try it some time). I play LoL now 2 year and I never payed anything and you can say that I set goals to buy a new champion or new runes and that keeps me playing. The runes that help you ingame you can't buy them with real money. The only thing that you must pay to buy is skins (the look of a champion) and believe me I have seen free to play games that you can't even buy items with in game money :P . Well about the champions you don't like there is the free rotation every week that let you try new champions. I don't say that DotA or LoL is better. The only thing that I tell is none companie makes a game for free "free" and don't forget that DotA 2 is made by the makers of Warcraft 3 and LoL is made from the makers of the mod DotA. So I think they are equal :). Is the choose of the gamer to choose one of them so don't fight over it. When I will play DotA 2 I will let you know who is better in my opinion between them.
P.S. I'm not LoL lover i just choose it like i choose CoD over Battlefield so don't sweat over it :P.
sorry but charging for heroes is different then charging for how they look. The fact is i like DOTA 2 better because from day one I can use any hero I wan't and i don't have to grind to get to a hero I might not even like. Besides LoL was just made for people who were not good enough to play DOTA.
ps. that last sentence is there to make you mad. LoL lovers
@Evilnator Yeah you have to pay to unlock heroes or play a billions hours to get them all. And the rune system is the same.
If there are no limits to what heroes you can play it makes the game a lot easier and more fun to learn imo.
@Tremblay343 "The good ones" as you call them are normal champions, they just take a more experienced player to master, therefore if you play longer you will be able to afford the so called "good ones".Counterpick can only happen in ranked games, and you've clearly never experienced those because you have to reach level 30 to unlock Ranked play.
By the time you play ranked you really have your stuff together anyway, so counterpicks only depend on the order of players.
@Tremblay343 does it really matter that you have to unlock heroes or not? even you won't play every hero in dota2, you'll stick to the ones you play better with
@Evilnator Because you pay money to unlock heroes. The good ones are like 6000+ points which takes FOREVER. So you're limited to their free hero switch. You can't get a good at a game when you don't know the heroes. People with more heroes can counter-pick you.
Pay to Win
@Tremblay343 You can unlock characters with both in-game currency and real money. However all heroes are balanced and earning in-game currency to unlock new and interesting to you characters lets you set a goal and keeps you playing. When it comes to runes, you can only buy them with in-game money. And they provide small bonuses to suit your playstyle. All players have access to this. How does Pay to WIn relate to what i describe?
@Evilnator Have you?
Why do hackers have to hack? They ruin everyone else's fun just so they can do something with there lives.
Man this whole hacking business is still going on this is getting out of hand it seems like every day now another company comes out and says they've been hacked. Although I've noticed no company has ever been hacked twice I wonder if that means something?
Atleast unlike blizzard or sony they fess up to their security problems and get it out in the open for people in a timely manner.
@eric_neo3 Wow thats a desperate excuse. They messed up like so many others, accept it instead of using silly fanboy excuses.
@BladeStrike1234 desperate excuse? Sony took a month and a half to come clean, while blizzard is still in denial mode.
FYI :The law requires that they inform their customers within 24 hours of the event so that their customers can cancel any credit cards and change any passwords that may have been compromised.
Every security system has holes in it, so you can't call it "messing up" because it can happen too anybody. I take it you don't like LoL seeing you liked the comment below that said the game was boring.
I played LoL for like 5 rounds and was insanely bored. My account can be hacked and taken away and I wouldnt even care.
You mean you were beaten horribly badly by more experienced players and got annoyed right? Is that why the game sucks?

Everyone gets hacked eventually. Sony and Microsoft were compromised months earlier as well and I didn't blame them. I certainly am not going to place blame on Riot for this security breach either. Blame the hackers, not the companies.

And yet another example of the bad side of technology. It seems like just about everything is getting hacked these days.
Yea, I soon as I got the email I deleted my account. I'm not gonna bother making another account, it's not worth it.
@kaiser-zero Eh no we're not since it's just a minor breach and when you create an account you don't give that much info about yourself with the exception of the country of residence
dont spend money on free to play games hence there free and even if i did i use other ways like gamecards etc
@jessie82 Well at least Dota 2 isn't pay-to-win...
@cipo89 LOL isn't pay to win either...all you do with money is purchase skins that have different visual effects , colors , animations and maybe other voices
@Krauklis @cipo89 Eh no it's not....have u ever played lol dude? Before they release any champion they show guides game footage and detailed strategies and tactics and also the use of abilities....Your statement is fking retarded and shows your lack of knowledge about the game...plus it's more rewarding when you actually fight and own a champion that noobs will have a harder time to get
@cipo89 LOL ? im guessing u never played the game...if u think tryn is op.....(NO ONE IS OP AND IF THEY ARE THEY GET NERFED)....dont talk about games u dont know about it just makes u look stupid :S
@cipo89 Spoken like someone who knows nothing about the game.
There are very few heroes that are even close to being considered "OP". Tryndamere hasn't been one forever. He only stomps noobs that have no clue how to play (i'm assuming that's you). Riot patches the game every 2 weeks with balance changes so something that is considered OP isn't OP for long. PS: Anything that is 'cheap' with riot points, is generally very cheap with IP and would take only a day or two to unlock for free.
@cipo89 Tryndamere was nerfed long ago and pro players that play in ranked game 1.5 k + elo almost never use Tryndamere...only his ulti and passive is good the rest is BS..and correct me if I'm wrong but the same microtransactions are in DOTA 2 as well and you can buy OP champs with real money...and also all the champs in LOL can be purchased with IP so there isn't anything OP and unfair here so you facts are just childish and prove that you simplya re a fanboy of DOTA
At least let other people enjoy LOL if u don't like it
@bernardoneves Only on certain weeks whereas some people buy the cheap OP heroes (i.e Trindamere) and use it all the time.
I was wrong about the runes however.
@cipo89 you cannt buy runes so get your facts right and cheap op champion on dota2 will be free to everyone
@Darnasian Runes, Cheap OP heroes etc...
@cipo89 I can't think of any games in this genre that are.
