I'm a 360 player have been for god knows how long. Brother is out of town so I decided to try something different and play his PS3 and went out and got MAG because I was tired of Halo and CoD. To be honest, I am so glad I did. It doesn't really introduce anything ground breakingly new. But like stated before the feeling of 256 players, the feeling of war all around you is sheer joy excitement and tense, being able to command your teamates as you see fit, improved skill tree is all I need to continue playing this game and let my 360 rest for a good long time. This game has me sold to buying a PS3 if MAG 2 comes out.
Zipper Interactive's 256-player online shooter expands next month with new capture-and-hold game type for $10.
Back in August, Zipper Interactive opened up the MAG beta program, which was designed to offer existing owners of the online-only shooter the chance to play-test future developments for the game. Among the in-progress additions was the Escalation game type, and today Zipper said that this mode would be available to all players on November 2 for $10.
The Escalation game mode supports up to 96 players, where 32 players from the Raven, SVER, and Valor squads go head-to-head-to-head. Battles are broken down into two phases. In the first, all three teams attempt to hold two of three control points for a specified period of time. Once accomplished, a fourth point opens, and the team that caused the changes is charged with defending this final center until time expires or the requisite score is reached.
Escalation also introduces three new environments. Isla de Magma is set on a volcanic beach, while Silverback Ridge features mountainous terrain and Radiant Barrens offers an arid desert playfield. Further, the add-on introduces three new weapons per faction.

In domination mode (256 players) and after the first objectives are done --> the map starts to close-up and it's simply amazing!!! = bunch of friends and foes everywhere and lots of stuff going on....the sense of war is HUGE......never felt like this with other games (even with BF2 or BF2142)......for those who talk about and didn't played it, just try it out and have a blast!!!
well.. most fps are very similar but i wouldnt say its the best genre but you tell me what else fps that has 256 players then you haters can say it aint worth it... but as fas as gameplay goes its a whole new experience... definitly worth it
I?m playing MAG with MOVE and feels very good and gives new-more-realistic experience!! The first 2 weeks was a nightmare and I got owned all the time...but now I'm doing quite good and I would like to encourage hardcore players to try it out and to not give up at the beginning...believe me it's worth the try = MOVE IS GREAT. Can't wait for KILLZONE 3!!! :-D
Promised_Trini LOL i own both mag a kllzone 2 my problem is the community in those 2 games SUCK. No community no fun.
@parhar67 Go play your sales while I play games okay..Oh great now your bashing KZ2..I can already tell your a 360 fanboy..
@LeMarfanz Been a while since i have seen such ignorance.Forgot i was on gamespot for a second.First of all i dont play MW2.Quit that along time ago with the numerous glitches, lag and unstable servers. Not to mention the large amount of money im expected to shell out for DLC. Second of all i got MAG when it first came out.I even played for quite a while then got tired of fighting on the same maps for so long.In the different types of matches who dominated each one never really changed much.At least faction wise.I took the game back twice and got it one last time.At that time during the prime time of each day there wasnt much of a player force to be proud of.Took very long times to get into the big match Domination.Which was a shame because i did enjoy the game. But i did see tons of LMG players, the other guns werent seen much at all.Which was shame as well since i used sniper rifles and handguns only.Though i did switch to assualt rifles on my second account on Valor.(good ol M4) However i would see a player off in the distance at almost a speck and they would kill me first with one shot.Guess what they were using?LMGs.I tested it myself because i didnt believe it.But sure enough i could use it as a sniper rifle with far more ammo. As for the way your saying these things i take it your a fanboy or 14 years old.Im only talking to you how you deserve.
Promised_Trini LOL sales do matter....it shows how many people OWN the game...look at halo 2 for example they had to shut down the original xbox live to make people stop playing it because it sold a ton of copies. Halo 3 will have people playing it until they shut down xbox live for the 360 because there are 10 million copies floating around out their. How long do you expect MAG to live with not even 1 million copies? Killzone 2 same story barely any players and if a new commer wants to play it today well they are going to get their butts kicked because nothing but nerds are on that game. More sales mean more people playing meaning longer the games going to last.
@WolfGrey congrats! you've officially impressed me with your ability to be wrong all the time. Yea the LMG is a good gun you're totes right broski! So is the assault rifle, the sniper rifle, the shotgun is sick too, and so is the SMG! So basically, all the guns are good on all three factions! and I've had MAG since day one and it has never dipped so low that you oculnd't play with 256 players. So go back to MW2 and stop talking about things you know nothing about...unless you're talking about being wrong all the time.
MAG is fine but abit laggy specially when 256 players play,,,,,,But still the ESCALATION pack is worth trying...
the game was ok I wasn't much into after I owned it for a very short time. But I am glad to see that zipper is actually using DLC for what its there for in the first place. Releasing content to make the game better its a win win situation now if only other game developers would get that same belief..
Holy crap, I suggested this to them back @ PAX 09, glad to see they finally listened :D No but serious this is great news.
@nonfanboygamer1 you are VERY wrong...plent of people play MAG, and this new DLC might actually bring more players back in
I wish I had a decent internet connection. The most I can do is go to PSN Store and buy things or play some PSN games like Peggle. FPS online is impossible. :(
Why does zipper always release dlc way after people stop playing the game (socom). Yoo hoo...zipper..nobody plays mag anymore!
those who have xbox 360 and not ps3 shouldn't even be here! and mag has a heathly community! i've been playing it non stop since i bought it last week...totally worth it
Do people still play this game? I liked the beta, but for some reason didn't get the game. Maybe it's time...
@parhar67 I see another person who picks sales over games..Do some home work on how a game becomes a greatest hits then come back and talk to me..Okay until then don't speak..
Promised_Trini so people are only bashing it because its not COD? Like how people are praising it because its a ps3 exclusive....if its so great why has it not even sold a million copies yet? Ya we all know low selling games have a high population and userbase....lol
I did enjoy this when I had it on rental a while back... too many other games keeping my interest at the moment though (looking at you, New Vegas)
@Promised Trini I agree with you, the people bashing this game have obviously never played it. MAG has a huge population, looks great and can run 256 players on a single map without lag. Until you play this game people just be quiet about it, go and play this game for a while then give your opinion. Zipper makes excellent shooters from Socom to MAG (excluding Socom Confrontation) Zipper also has Socom 4 in the works without playing it I can say it will be worth playing as they have made great games consistently.
ah man, I was thinking of getting the game at the new price tag, but now .. I'm not interesting in buying the game+DLC... and it will be the same prob as Soccom when they release the DLC and I did not got it...
why the **** cant they just release DLC free so it keeps the community alive plus the devs will have more respect, the one thing i luv about mag is the 3 faction recruitment thingy.
For those saying this game has a small population..I know for sure none of you played this game..Your just looking to bash something..If its not COD its bashed I've come notice this..Also good to know the game is getting new Dlc.
the graphics of this game suck, ill never gonna even play this, so much better options i can choose i wont even waste my time in this.
@parhar67 I don't know how you're getting that number, but if you're getting it in-game, you either have a limited NAT type (or some similar technical issue) or are just lying. Even now there are roughly 650 in Domination, ~250 in Acquisition, and ~800 in Sabotage. So roughly 1700 people playing at 2 in the morning (-7:00 GMT), and those are only the ones in a game or waiting in a queue. Granted, there are only 7 people in Interdiction... But that could be fixed with a price reduction to the DLC when Escalation comes out.
@LeMarfanz Right....I use to play quite often on MAG.But then the community took a plunge and there were very few players. Not enough to play the big mode at all.Might of changed later but i doubt it.Second of all..I used the light machine gun myself on all 3 factions. When you go into the sights its extremely accurate and easy to get headshots.Anyone who plays knows this.
We will see if this survival. But, they have bad time to release DLC game, a lot good games & DLC were release this past week. It might be for the hardcore Mag gamer.
I used to like to play MAG a lot. I started to play it less and less because 1) I didn't have time and 2) it was getting stale. I was excited for Interdiction until I realized there was barely enough people online to have a match going. It's dangerous to have a new and radically different FPS that requires such a large player base to be functional.
Considering the population of the game itself is extremely small, a paid game mode will have serious problems. Interdiction is a good example of this.
Never got into MAG because of horror stories of its lag.. Is the lag fixed?? I jus ran outa XBL so i might as well get something to play while waiting to renew it when black ops comes out.
I loved playing this game. Till sony bricked my PS3 with their anti piracy update. I now do PC gaming and retro consoles :c
Of course they don't mention the prior DLC mode, Interdiction, getting a price drop from 10 to $5, nor the $15 DLC bundle coming out the same week as the Escalation mode that includes both game modes, 2 extra character slots for a month, and all the currently available avatar/themes. The bundle will be a great grab for those that just picked up the game for a measly $29 thanks to it becoming a Greatest Hits title recently.
Hmm I don't own a PS3 but from the looks of this game and company they really want people to buy this game.
