Mario + Super Meat Boy = Super Meat Boy Galaxy

Developer Aubrey Hesselgren creates mash-up game using Unity and Blender as birthday present for Team Meat's Tommy Refenes.

The Super Mario Galaxy and Super Meat Boy franchises have come together. Developer Aubrey Hesselgren (who goes by Hilarious Cow on Twitter) has released a video of a "completely unofficial 3D version" of Super Meat Boy called Super Meat Boy Galaxy.

Hesselgren created the Mario/Meat Boy mashup for Team Meat developer Tommy Refenes' birthday. He used Unity and Blender to create the game, which meshes the worlds of Super Mario Galaxy with the blood-soaked jumping of Super Meat Boy.

Hesselgren said Super Meat Boy Galaxy is not much more than a "training exercise," and that it is not planned for a wider, public release.

Super Meat Boy was fun, but had a great number of flaws (there's a difference between difficulty and unfairness). I don't think it would work in 3D though.

 @SloganYams Difficulty? Yes.

Unfairness? Nope.

Satisfaction from overcoming difficulty with determination and skill? Cum Fiesta.

@CurtDawg77 Cheers man, what a cop-out. Though since we can tell it's Frank Sinatra related I'd be willing to bet it's a link to the song 'Fly Me To The Moon'. Thanks for the reply.

P.S - I'm too cheap to get a phone with a QR code reader. Fail ;[

@Dnaisinmybody Thanks for the reply, I had no idea so that's much appreciated!

Now to just whip out my laptop in public so I can look like an absolute weirdo, awkwardly offering my comp to the various walls with QR codes stuck to them. xD

I don't think I can handle another Meat Boy without having a psychotic breakdown from anger.

Thats amazing and if the controlls were anywhere near as good as supper meat boy then this game would be unstoppable. If team meat dosen't hire this kid then he has a promissing start anywhere he wants to go.

gotta love the comments.  a dude making a b'day present while still in the process of learning how to make a game with the software at is fingertips, and people trash him.

"boooo... give us more CoD news, we need to know about Black Ops 3 and Battlefield 5!  You're telling us about someone inspired to become a game designer and give a creative sign of thanks to developers that inspired him??... BOOOOO... hisssssss"

Jeez guys it's not like it's supposed to be a real game, it's pretty cool.

It was an unimpressive video, thankfully it's short.

It's the thought that counts I guess.

@SolidTy What're you talking about? First off, for a birthday present THAT is impressive; secondly, it looks like a LOT of fun to play.

@RetroSEAL It looks terrible to play, but to each their own.

It was a nice thought though, as I said before. Nice Gesture for sure.

@SolidTy  @kidflash2000  @Poodger  And consumers (and gamers alike) wonder why the same darn franchises appear on store shelves year after year, when the answer is simple: developers are afraid to innovate! Because when people DO innovate, it's shot down and called unimpressive because (even if tries something new) it doesn't follow a familiar formula and therefore, foreign ideas are frowned upon. I can't say this game is perfect or looks like it's capable of a full release title, but take it for what it is, an homage to 2 great games!

I am sorry but that just was not right. It was neither Mario or Super Meat Boy nor anything in between. I just watched a bloody red dot moving and dying over and over again when falling in a red pool.

I'm sorry this doesn't look like Meatboy at all. There's clipping and graphical issues still as well, I guess it's a work in progress though.

@Jebril And it was made by one guy, using free programs, as a birthday present.
