Marv Wolfman tapped for Planetside 2
SOE extends deal with award-winning comics writer to craft backstory for sci-fi shooter MMOG; Web-based fiction series inbound.
Sony Online Entertainment is taking another crack at the first-person massively multiplayer online shooter genre with Planetside 2. Story will apparently play a bigger role this time around, as the MMOG-specialty shop announced today that award-winning comic scribe Marv Wolfman will be crafting the game's fiction.
A longtime writer for Marvel and DC Comics, Wolfman has been credited as the creator of such popular characters as Blade, as well as the New Teen Titans. He also contributed to various iconic comic franchises, including Batman and Spider-Man. Wolfman is also credited as an "instrumental partner" in the writing behind SOE's recent MMOG DC Universe Online.
Planetside 2 will take place on the planet of Auraxis with a narrative focusing on three warring factions. SOE said this is the first time the Planetside story will be detailed, and it will be supplemented by a "series of episodic backstory fiction" that is set to hit PlanetSide2.com. Wolfman also shared that he will be creating dozens of individual characters to help bring the story to life.
Planetside 2 is currently under development for the PC. For more information, check out \GameSpot's previous coverage of Planetside 2.
