Minecraft Xbox 360 sells 4 million

4J Studios' console port goes quadruple platinum following launch in May; PC version now available in stores via prepaid cards for about $27.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is continuing to perform mightily. Developer 4J Studios has revealed through Twitter that the game has now sold 4 million copies since its record-breaking launch in May, driving $80 million in revenue.
As of late July, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition had sold 3 million copies. And in August, the game was moving 17,000 copies per day, bringing in $340,000 every 24 hours. It has even surpassed Call of Duty: Black Ops on Xbox Live activity charts.
In addition, Mojang itself announced that Minecraft is now available through brick-and-mortar retailers via prepaid cards. The game is available at Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy for $26.95.

2 Like It may have less option than the pc version BUT I can sit infront of my massive tv in my couch and play it through xbox live with friends... pc users can keep there keyboards and bending over backs to a small screen. PLUS if you pc people use your so called creative brains, DLC on minecraft/upgrades will only get better and become as good as the pc version... I have the pc version but...the option for 2 or 4 players on 1 screen plus a controller which works really really well...and my couch.. you can't beat that pc fanboys. 4 million sales says it all... use your brains and dont get so offended and so little minded about consoles.. the xbox 360 pad kills the keyboard and I for one do not want to sit right up close to a pc...no thanks... big lcd and a controller with xbox live and split screens... yeah..u now u want a copy. The xbox 360 version can only get better not worse.. be a true gamer and think!

4 Like @beardrewz Haha look at him and laugh, he thinks you can't plug a PC into a HDTV and use any controller you want, ive got my PC hooked up to my 60inch right now, i even use a PS3 controller to play Witcher 2 & Dark Souls on PC.
Also enjoy paying for your crappy DLC, while we get heaps of mods for free, even Notch knows Minecraft is meh without mods.
Never been a real fan of the game, but I can't hate on its' success or the fact that others like it.
5 Like @HaloinventedFPS While yes, the PC version has more features, the Xbox 360 version is still good to have, especially for split-screen and friends and a more user-friendly interface. If anything, this version can lead people to play the PC version when ready. Calling them idiots is uncalled for.
LOL, they are insane if they think this game is worth $27. Even the $20 it sell for on Xbox Live Arcade is about twice what it is worth.
I went from having a small hut with a huge mine under it to having a full size city on the xbox version this game draws u in its amazing been worth every penny, iv'e put about 500-600 hours into this game, not stopped playing it since release. GOTY

@FallenOneX Actually, I've wanted to try this game out for a long time. But I don't own a 360 and I don't like giving out credit card info over the internet. So the prepaid card option has finally given me the opportunity to finally check it out. The last part of my comment was just a lighthearted joke.

@DevaGolgotha because the 360 is so much easier, plus you have your couch and a controller, instead of a keyboard, some people cant afford high performance pc's.
@depman1972 It's pretty hard to have a pc that can't run Minecraft. I suppose the couch thing is a matter of opinion, as I feel more energized when I'm in front of my pc. In any case, ease? I really hope it has nothing to do with ease.
@DevaGolgotha I've played it for the PC for a long time, and just recently bought the console version. As of now the PC version is better by a long shot due to limited world size (along with resources) and lack of mods. The console version isn't up to date with PC version either, so going back to that is sort of a pain until they update it.
@Owlstone Quite. Also, I don't really want to play Minecraft on a console anyway. It just seems better on a PC. Also, you bought both? Why?
2 Like @DevaGolgotha I play it because my PC can't run Minecraft well, and I do not have the money to upgrade it now. Plus, I like the interface more on the Xbox 360 version than the PC (I do like both versions, but prefer the Xbox 360 more). Not to mention, the 360 version is great for split-screen.

Money does not grow on trees. Not everyone has $1000 to spend, especially on just one game. I have no need to buy another computer anytime soon, anyways. Besides I got this PC as a gift.

Before I got this current PC, I already had an Xbox 360. Since when was there a rule saying I can't put a console over investing in a good PC? There is nothing wrong with liking consoles more than PCs.
In the end, it really does not matter what system you play Minecraft on. As long as people enjoy whatever platform they are on and supporting the company, that's all that matters.
@Flint247 What, you don't have $1000 including selling your current PC? Wow. Anyway, it's pretty hard to not be able to run Minecraft. Hell, I could run it on my Mom's shit Vista for a while. Also, a good PC is a good investment in general. Putting a 360 higher on your priority list than a good PC seems kinda stupid to me, but hey, we don't all want easy access to a plethora of games as well as a reliable device to do work, finances, and pretty much everything else on.

A new PC is not at the top of my list, anyways. I have other things to worry about than trying to run one game. Plus, the Xbox 360 version will keep me busy. It has been keeping me busy since when I got it in July 2012, even if it is limited to the PC version.
@TJSpyke That's a matter of opinion, and millions disagree with yours. In any case, my idea is right: Minecraft is for the PC, not the Xbox.
@DevaGolgotha @TJSpyke That too is an opinion. I personally see this game working well on PC and Xbox 360. When the Xbox 360 gets the majority of the PC updates, it can be a really fun game, mods and things like aside.
It's all in a person's preference, I am a PC and console gamer and I do not see either being superior in the long run, but options. If you want more power, then play the PC, if you want a ready-to-use and simpler interface, then play console. But I am not going to get into the PC vs console debate because I am in the minority here.

3 Like Nice to see this sell so many. I have the Xbox 360 version and I definitely been playing it almost every week. I tried the PC version, but I am going to stick with the Xbox 360 version since I already bought and I have to save on my money. Plus, I like the interface on the 360 version more. It's cool to see they made pre-paid cards for the PC version, though.

It's funny that it keeps getting more and more expensive. The first copy I bought on the PC was $13. Still one of my favorite games of all time.
