MLB 2002 to arrive in May

SCEA has announced that MLB 2002 for the Sony PlayStation console will be released on May 8. The game offers eight different modes of play, including season, playoffs, and a full multiyear franchise mode, among others. The game's developers, 989 Sports, consulted with top Major League players, including Tony Gwynn and Trevor Hoffman, during the game's development. MLB 2002 will include 300 motion-captured animations, with 250 personalized moves for such players as Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson and NY Yankees pitcher Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez. The commentary in the game is provided by Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully and color analyst Dave Campbell.

"MLB 2002 provides the most realistic baseball game available for PlayStation,'' Ami Blaire, director of product marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America, said. "The 989 Sports team has combined the classic elements of its previous release with new features that really give the player a first-hand experience of what it is like to take a team all the way to the World Series.''

Atlanta Brave's outfielder Andruw Jones will serve as the game's cover athlete.
