[UPDATE] Retailer listing suggests Capcom's series coming to Sony handheld; Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nights page a fake.
[CORRECTION] Eurogamer has updated its original story with a comment from Play stating that the listing images for Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, and Tales of Innocence were fake, and the retailer never listed those titles on its site. However, it acknowledged the Monster Hunter page was legitimate, but was pulled at Capcom's request. The original version of this story can be found below:
A new Grand Theft Auto title--Vice City Nights--is in development for the PlayStation Vita, according to a product listing page at United Kingdom retailer Play.com
The listing has since been yanked, but Eurogamer was able to capture a screenshot of the page. It suggests the game will carry a €39.99 (about $50) price point.
No further information regarding Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nights is available, and as of press time, Rockstar Games had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
If Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nights is real, it will be the second new Grand Theft Auto game from Rockstar confirmed as in development. Grand Theft Auto V was announced in October, but no release window or platforms have been offered for that game.
In addition to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nights, the retailer posted listings for PS Vita games Monster Hunter Portable 3, Tales of Innocence R, and Final Fantasy Type-O HD.
The Monster Hunter Portable 3 product listing remains live on Play's website. If Monster Hunter Portable 3 comes to the PS Vita, it won't be a total surprise. Capcom Europe COO David Reeves said in July that the Monster Hunter franchise would "probably" come to the PS Vita.
The other two listings are for titles that Japanese gamers might already be familiar with. Tales of Innocence R launched on the PS Vita in Japan in January, while Final Fantasy Type-O previously appeared on the PSP.
GameSpot has contacted Capcom, Square Enix, and Namco Bandai concerning the supposed product listings. As of press time, no responses have been provided.
MH is fun but soul sacrifice is going to be a better substitute, I am getting both but IMO I think I will enjoy soul sacrifice more
bro..... MH is like blood for PSP, how come you not include such a game, eventhough low rate.. sbut still blood is important for living. in this matter PS(vita)P living.......
@burgeg - haha of course i know what a frickin port is, what i'm trying to get across is the same thing you are, is that if their going to make a GTA for a portable like vita, it better be a full blown console experience where there is some interaction with the PS3. And who says it would be dumbed down? All sony talks about is the Vita's power rivalling consoles so shouldn't it have some of the same games to prove that? Wouldn't it be cool to go online on your Vita and go up against those playing GTA on their consoles? I think that would be pretty epic.
@shadowhunter0 Vice City stories exists? Actually yeah.. Thinking about it that does ring a bell.. I never played my original PSP all that much though so probably didn't want to fork out the money. The Vita however does look quality, I'll be working overseas later in the year so purchasing a Vita looks certain :) More games the better, if there's a GTA thrown in even better.
A GTA for the vita when like what is it now, 6-8 of those games exist already? Not very suprising. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd? Wth capcom?! It's been at the least 2 years since original launch in japan and a year since the HD edition (which was like a slap to the face of the rest of the monster hunter world by capcom). I have to ask what is your obession with keeping Monster Hunter in japan and not letting the rest of the world have it? We may have received tri but it just didn't have the same pull as freedom unite. Point being: capcom why are you so insistant on keeping monster hunter out of the rest of the world? It's not very fair and doesn't maximize sales, which doesn't make much sense. Final note: heard alot of people like GTA, but my question is do they have good stories? I'm all for destruction and mayham but if I want that I can just go to a game like prototype or something similiar.
Bottom line, there's no way we're not gonna get some sort of GTA game on Vita, whatever it will be, and it will be awesome. That's all I need to know. My own best guess is that since the portable titles tend to scale down something that's tested and proven on the consoles, would be that we see GTA IV recycled somehow - either an updated Liberty City Stories involving the cast that we've seen in GTA IV and the DLC packs and using the existing city and map, altered slightly for the portable version. I doubt we'll get a GTA V on Vita which will emulate the console game, but then I've been surprised by R* many times.... who saw Table Tennis coming!?
@warhawk-geeby there is already a vice city game on the go and it is called vice city stories on the psp and it is allot of fun to play
portable GTA? no thanks. i never saw why GTA was so special. free roam gets boring fast and all the missions are repetitive.
Ah true Monster Hunter news, a weird way to get it but still happy its confirmed. Good bye 3DS's only gaming edge in japan, good bye.
I enjoyed Vice City and Liberty City stories on the PSP, and a return to Vice City would certainly be more than welcome. And MHP3 for the Vita will certainly cause sales to skyrocket in Japan. Over here I'm not so sure, but I don't care. I like my Vita.
If monster hunter its confirmed, i will be saving to finally get a VITA... Couldn't care less for a Portable GTA....
it ll be interesting to see the comparison from the ps3 version, i thought rockstar did a good job with the psp versions, and china wars was a blast. i don't know how they ll fit it all in however, unless its download only, doubtful but the only way i can see.
GTA will, without a doubt have a title on the PSV. It has become a staple game for Sony's consoles handle-held and otherwise over the years. Also excited to see this new line-up of games.
I guess, if a GTA comes to a system I do not yet own, I will have to buy that system *faking a sad smiley*. I'm a die-hard GTA fan. :)
The PSP GTA games were pretty good. I can only imagine what a PS Vita game would be like. I hope it's an exclusive entry in the series, not a rerelease of something we've already played though. I imagine this story is legit.
This is so funny. Search "vita game heaven leak" and commence laughing. EVERYONE is posting this same article. It's on literally hundreds of news sites. It's so unbelievably sad that nobody does research anymore. You would think that if anyone were to research it would be journalists. I think if laugh any harder I might die... so sad.
"may be a fake." It's definately fake it's embarassing that I did more research into that image than the so called gaming journalists. It's from 4 Chan and GTA etc never showed up on the website. Monster Hunter did but that has always been there.
Vice City is my favorite GTA game, in my opinion it had the best characters, soundtrack, and atmosphere. Although I am a bit nostalgic for the 80's....
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=465809 Oh snap! Everyone's been fooled
@Fatman AB It's not rare it happens all the damn time I can name at least 5 occurrences it had with the 3DS, Whether Rockstar will make anything is anyones guess, if they are when it comes out will again be anyones guess. Remember that PS3 exclusive rockstar was working but we haven't heard anything about it since? yeah..... That was 4 years ago.
It better be, but I'm more excited for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd myself, and as for GTA V not confirmed for any or what platforms, are you kidding? You have 3 choices, PS3, XBox 360 and PC.
