Like some others, I own all of the consoles, but I tend to play most games on my 360. Not sure why,but i think it is bc I find Xbox Live easier to deal with than Playstation Network. Sure, PSN is free (kinda) while the 360 requires a subscription. I hate it that on PSN I lose some games if my membership expires. I also find the PSN interface extremely confusing and cannot believe that some demos are only available to paying members. I can't afford both, honestly, so I have to live with one or the other. That sucks. Esp living in a corner of the world which is isolating like a gulag in th e winter. Anyhow, I am thrilled with Mass Effect and ME2. I find myself measuring new games against Mass Effect. ME is actually the first time I have played as a woman even though I am a female gamer. My female Shepherd looks real. And she doesn't look like a hooker, thank you very much. I have been awaiting the new Star Wars game (The Old Republic). Believe it or not I am pissed that the graphics are going to be cartoonish. I had assumed, wrongly. that they would shoot for Mass Effect-type characters and graphics., Instead they are using graphics that will make it harder to take the game seriously. Say it isn't a done deal yet, please....
Cerberus Daily News message reveals BioWare's second Commander Shepard entry receiving additional material prior to Mass Effect 3.
At the 2010 Video Game Awards, BioWare made Commander Shepard's third travel through time and space official when it announced Mass Effect 3 for release during holiday 2011. Now, it appears the developer isn't yet ready to leave the science fiction world of Mass Effect 2 behind.
According to an in-game update via Mass Effect 2's daily news service--the Cerberus Daily News--Mass Effect 2 will receive a new batch of DLC in 2011. Unfortunately, the announcement was decidedly brief and lacked further information.
The most recent Mass Effect 2 downloadable content was the warmly received Lair of the Shadow Broker, which arrived in early September. That content saw Commander Shepard team up with the blue-hued Liara, taking the fight to the elusive Shadow Broker.
Also announced via the Cerberus Daily News update was intelligence that daily updates will cease on January 24.
"The Cerberus Daily News will begin a hiatus on January 24th, finishing its run of one full year. Daily postings will cease except for three weeks in 2011," reads the update. "A week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3."
Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3--which uses the Mass Effect 3 game engine and contains several previously released Mass Effect 2 DLC packs--is slated for release on January 18. The title is due out on Sony's HD console in Europe on January 21. Mass Effect 3 will launch simultaneously across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC during holiday 2011.

well there must be a huge difference in the games somehow bucause the textures at least look a little better on the ps3 but i only played the one hour demo so i cant really say that it keeps it up the entire game but i am gonna be buyin that dlc on the firstday it comes out because i have all the other dlc on the box and mass effect is simply great
it could read Holiday 2011 because the actual period is not known which on holiday the game will be released around. So it could come out around Christmas (Dec), Thanksgiving (Nov), or Labor Day (Sept) of this year.
ok its also not just called christmas 2011 because: yes not everybody celebrates christmas, but also the holiday season covers haloween thru thanksgiving and then thru christmas.
@ThunderbirdX i just feel with current bandwidths and power of consoles downloadable software should be an option, it was for the pc boys years ago (half life 2 with counter strike source)!! Though i do agree the microsoft system doesn't have blu ray (hahaha) hence dlc onlywith the size of data !! good answer thanks :)
@itchyflop it wont be on PSN to purchase this will definately be a DISC game I think the first one was what 18 gigs of files second is like close to 25 26 :) they could cram both onto 1 Ps3 disk easily with the DLC something the xbox isnt capable of till its Blu Ray system or peripheral is finalized
First of all its a DEMO having played Mass 1 to 100% achievements in less then 2 days along with loading my brothers Xbox 360 at the time with EVERY possible outcome in save files for ME2 .....That being said ill mention one other thing I use an older first gen HD rear projection it plays standard def 480 and 1080p ONLY and this game looked BOUNDS better then ME2 I had played 3 days earlier on a brand new Aquos tv its all based on settings the grainyness people attribute to PS3 games i dont get ever ... so people complaining about how a game looks as a demo your truly really not understanding the concept of a DEMO i hopped in and knew the normandy's layout and proceeded with the demo as an Infiltrator and my ONLY complaint was I couldnt crouch no biggie Im waiting for the final game its gonna be AWESOME besides :) My brothers Xbox coulcnt handle movies for my kids all day and game all night thankfully my ps3 hasnt been turned off in 3 weeks and runs flawless :) I only wish ME1 was out on ps3 so i could set my own story in place :) PS its called Holiday release so people who dont celebrate a traditional christmas cant sue or claim bias get with the times people not everyone celebrates Xmas
@ACWH I agree. I have a magazine subscription and the cover of the newest issue on the magazine's website says "Christmas and New Years Special Edition" yet when I got it in the mail it said "Holiday Edition" on the cover....
@Timmy_Gwar I wasn't jealous when I heard about the PS3 version, with it's improved graphics and DLC on the disc. I was going to sell my 360 version and buy the PS3 version since I own both consoles. However, then I played the PS3 demo. The game doesn't look better, it looks worse. The lighting and textures are worse and the framerate is very unstable. I honestly do not believe the PS3 version uses the ME3 engine. I'm not saying the engine was perfect on 360, but whatever Bioware have done to it since last year, it hasn't improved anything as far as I can see. Let's just hope the demo was an old build and the retail release will be of higher quality.
@x-2tha-z So I suppose we've confirmed that the problem lies with Bioware and a previously perfected engine. It couldn't possibly be because of the PS3... Let fly your 360 v PS3 arguments forum goers, let all of your misguided frustrations choke the beast that is progression. To be honest I was jealous when I heard how much more the PS3 version had.
Love it, cant wait to see what they plan on bringing out next ! Mass effect is easily one of my favourite gaming series of all time so far... keep the good work up BioWare :)
Still can't believe I got this game for like $10 on gamefly. I just bought mass effect 1 and 2 last week, once I get through mass effect 1 I can't wait to start playing mass effect 2, heard nothing but good things about it.
@ele975 Fair enough apology accepted, I'll be buying the new dlc anyway so I don't know why i was complaining, hopefully it is another big one like the lair of the Shadow broker.
@mickyfinn84 sorry man, had a bad day when i wrote, i apologize. When you wrote your comment it sounds like you mean any DLC's should either be better or as good as the game, many people (As you can see) may misunderstand that.
This is by far my most loved serious for this generation. I am excited for the new content and glad that the PS3 owners get the chance to enjoy the greatness!
Just played through all the DLC and was hugely impressed, honestly it surprised me at how good they where and i look forward to whatever bioware want to send my way. for anyone still thinking about the 3 DLC my favourite was overlord because it had a really good story and was possibly the longest of all the DLC as well.
Just played the demo on PS3 its definitely a gorgeous looking game and plays really smooth as well. I dont know if its that good on the 360
i really like the settings of liara's DLC. the apartment with a large window overlooking a rainy skyline. the skycar race. the shadow brokers ship exterior. i hope to see a lot more of illium in ME3. it makes a great change from all the identical looking interiors from ME1.
@TheGreyArea i doubt very seriously that we will get that lucky. i just hope the new one is longer than all the previous ME2 dlc. i haven't played the dlcs yet (just re-purchased ME2 just to play all the dlc), but have heard from everyone that they are extremely short (unjustifiably short). i hope the new one is larger, content wise (or maybe we can get lucky & get more than one).
It would be nice if they would throw out the Collector Armor and other Collector's Edition material for those who got screwed out of getting it. I had Mass Effect 2 CE preordered and totally got crewed out of it. As for this news I kinda already knew another DLC was incoming, it stands to reason that Bioware would pump one more at least out before Mass Effect 3 ships.
@ele975 Sorry can you point me to where i said DLC was meant BETTER than the main game? No thought not. But it should be as good, and apart from the shadow broker dlc the rest hasn't been much good.
I simply hope that this DLC, is of "Dragon age awakening" 'esque proportions. IE, big enough to justify another whole new retail discs worth of gaming, and a MASSIVE dose of new story and gameplay. I love dragon age, but have always felt a little let down that Bioware's "other" superb title, failed to have been given the same HUGE expansion love than D.A got with awakening. 20hours worth please, minimum
I'm tired of playing as a Human. I want to play as Thane or Garrus. Getting pretty tired of being John Shepard.
for everyone squawking for ME2 GOTY it will be out some time in between april and august using the same time frame as DA:O GOTY to DA2
I could care less about the PS3 version to be honest. The graphics are ever so slightly better, and the engine's a little better.. While an improved engine sounds nice, I'd rather wait until ME3 to experience it. It might not even be that much better. I still prefer the 360 and PC experiences because there are still choices you can only make in those (plus the actual playing of ME1) that can't be made in ME2 for PS3 - even if they are minor. If you're looking for big differences, try Dragon Age. PS3 version is somewhat glitchy and not as pretty, 360 version doesn't look as good as the others (though it's still pretty great for a 360 game). All in all, the PC version was by far the best experience. ANYWAY. I just can't wait for ME3. And DA2 of course.
Judging from the announcement this will be the last 'big' DLC. One full week of Cerberus news will lead up to it (aswell as two full weeks of cerberuws news for Mass Effect 3). This to me suggests that this DLC will be the bridging DLC Bioware talked about. Hopefully it will be more of an expansion pack like DA:Awakening, dealing with either the Reapers or the Collectors. Unfortunatly we'll have to wait for a while for this DLC to come. They didnt make this announcement for the DLC. They made it so fans knew the update would stop but that at some point between now and the release of ME3 we will get 3 more weeks of updates. So I guess this isn't DLC that is just a month away.
Hopefully, this is the "cure the green, gorgeous, impossibly sexy and impressively lethal assassin" DLC. Having Thane Krios in ME3... that would make me exceedingly happy. ;)
I bet the DLC will be something like "Assault on Cerberus" as a nice tie in to the Cerberus network ending
DLC with Bioware sequels don't make a whole lot of sense, because if you don't get them you might miss out on a vital part of the story (Lair otSB for example), and if you do get them, you're left wondering how much of what you do will actually impact on any future games in the series (DA Witch Hunt, which was filled with bugs and took your character out of the world, even though you might have wanted to do Golems last, rather than Witch Hunt). It's all a bit messed up. Having said that, if the new DLC is as good as LoTSB, I'll shut my mouth and open my wallet. Wide.
I hope they drop DLC in preparation for ME3 that actually has effect if you upload teh ME2 save game. Like some prologue bits that will lead right into whats happening at teh start of ME3.
@ ziv_ew he's only dead if you killed him in the first one, in mine he's alive and the leader of the largest Krogan clan on his homeworld.
I am a fan of Mass Effect 2 but besides the DLC that came out when the game was out like the Normandy crash site I have not played any of the DLC. This summer I should download all of the new DLC and start a new Mass Effect 2 character.
I got all the DLC for 200 points each the other day and just finished them all. I liked all 3, especially for the value price. Shadow Broker was definitely the best. I actually liked Stolen Memories more than Overlord, but both were definitely fun. That said, Shadow Broker is the only one for which I'd have been happy paying full price.
I hope they release some kind of import tool for those of us who want to customize what happened in ME1 without importing data, like how PS3 users will have a customizable comic to fill out the backstory from ME1 for ME2. Shadow Broker was without a doubt a must play.

Mass Effect 3 is a remarkably satisfying conclusion to a beloved trilogy, and a poignant and memorable role-playing action game in its own right.
