CBS News reports that seven members of SEAL Team Six are under investigation for revealing secrets while serving as paid consultants on EA's shooter.
Seven US Navy SEALs who served as paid consultants on EA's Medal of Honor: Warfighter are reportedly under investigation for revealing secrets while working on the game.
According to a report by GameSpot's sister-site CBS News, the seven SEALs, who are all currently on active duty, used classified material given to them by the Navy while working with EA on Warfighter.
CBS News reported that all seven have received letters of reprimand and have had half their pay taken away for two months. One of the SEALs involved was reportedly on the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
Medal of Honor: Warfighter was released on October 23. EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau said that the critical reception for the game fell below EA's expectations, but that the publisher would continue to push the game during the holiday season through marketing, including the upcoming map pack tied in to Sony Pictures' new movie Zero Dark Thirty, which chronicles the Navy SEAL raid on Osama bin Laden.
The game fell into controversy prior to its release when EA began promoting its partnership with real-world weapons manufacturers by linking to their sites from the Medal of Honor: Warfighter official page.

Really?!?!? First things, first this is a REAL news story from a REAL news outlet. I do not know what details, it may have been that they used intel documents in their consulting, which is bad but to loss a career over it...WOW. Next, just what makes the game, TERRIBLE? Gameplay, graphics..the fact you get your ass kick by better players who use tactics. Just curious.
I don't need to say how bad this game is... also, one of the SEALs supposedly aided in killing Osama...
I am not sure why a lot of people are saying it is a marketing tactic by EA, unless they think CBS news is paid by EA to report this? I went to the site and it looks legit to me. Regardless, it sucks for them to be in that situation. Ever since wiki-leaks the military has really went crazy with keeping information classified.....
These are the men who are paid to protect our country? They can't even keep secrets from their own people. Who's to say how fast they'd cave for the enemy?

This is the single most pathetic promotion attempt I've ever seen.
i really like this game..i didnt try yet the single player but the multi is good..yes there is things in there needs to be better than it is but overall its OK..BTW there is many things this game have better than BF3..i dont know why all of this aggressive critics against this games..i see its worth 7 out of 10 at least not 6. :(

Wost part was that it was a horrible game.the so called elite squad coulden hit a terrorist with a hydrgen bomb :Pi woulden even consider it a good "movie/game"From a positive point of view i liked the feel of the weapons, and the multiplayer is okey.
US government thinks they talk too much....like the navy 6 team crashed in Afghanistan. I talk too much. Big brother is watching.
This is all orchestrated s£$t to make us "gamers" more interested in buying the game!!!!!!

1 Like the funny thing is. if they never went along and say "how dare you" no one will even know the info was classified. now people will want to buy this game to see what the SEALs have leaked, nice going command you let the world know something that no one knew. and plus its not like our enemies dont know what the US or its allies are doing. they do have there own intelligence groups too.
I'm surprised EA actually got SEALs to consult for them. I can't say if this is right or wrong, but it's precisely what I expected to happen.

In all seriousness though, from thier perspective if it's ok for thier work to be shown in political propoganda movies, they must have felt what they were doing was acceptable. It all starts at the top.
3 Like During my time in the military, when a militarymember did something in the outside world, their effort was an reflection on the military and we were acknowledged for our effort by the military. Today, its about money, the advisors to the game "Received Money" and that was the underlining problem, they received money while they were on active duty, a no,no even yesteryear. And as far as tactic went, every country uses the same(whats works), there is not much new except weapons and methods. I strongly doubt any, any classified materials were leaked. If it was the game would not be in the publics hands period and the parties involved would be in jail today. Botton line is that government is not pleased that the SEALS were PAID.
8 Like All these military combat games suck anyway, it's all about flashy graphics. If you really want the true to life experience then take it from a "real" combat soldier, play operation flashpoint or ArmA 2. These are about as good as it gets, all Moh and COD are is flashy hollywood style shoot'em ups.
@lawfrye let me ask you this are you willing to play a indie game that have decent graphics not the best, and it claims to be a stealth tactical shooter that follows the ideas that SOCOM US Navy SEALs, and the original Ghost Recon did?

The part about SOCOM was made up by SOCOM fans, some of which are rather obnoxious in their unfounded expectations.

First of all, you had to either confirm or deny that you are talking about Takedown. You did neither.
If you do, then it is not made around SOCOM and Ghost Recon, but around SWAT4 and Rogue Spear, which is what developers clearly stated multiple times. SOCOM fans jumped in on Takedown bandwagon and started spewing nonsense about it being a SOCOM successor. It is not.
If you're not talking about Takedown, then your last post was pointless.

SOCOM fans made SOCOM? i get what your saying the fanboy for SOCOM were mostly fanboys for the online. i like SOCOM for the tactical feel it gave you playing the single player, and the original Ghost Recon that gives you total control over the mission. Rainbow Six and SWAT are good but they are what they are CQC tactical
SOCOM, SWAT, original Rainbow Six ( all the way up to 3), original Ghost Recon, Operation Flash point, Arma are all good tactical games. people hate them because it is not a fast pace run and gun game.
it's not the information they shared, it's the fact that they shared information they're being reprimanded for. You might think it's paranoid, but it's more about setting an example they can't use their military expertise for profit

Yeah they need to be more carefull next time...the funny thing is the us soldier playing this game online they maybe could end up playing with their real enemies in this game... i mean...you never know who's playing online could be president obama or your ex girlfriend nobody knows

I happen to be one of those people who stands by his decision when he decides not to support a company. Now, sadly, some of these games are developed by some good companies, but published by one of the worst.
