Developer not planning version of open-ended adventure game for Sony's new portable; next title Scrolls is "definitely coming for touch screens."
Minecraft has spread to a host of platforms, including PC, Mac, Android, and iOS devices, but the title won't arrive on the PlayStation Vita.
Mojang business developer Daniel Kaplan confirmed (via Eurogamer) that the studio has "no plans" to bring Minecraft to Sony's new portable device, which is due out in North America and Europe next week.
This news comes despite Minecraft: Pocket Edition's debut for Sony's Xperia Play and its popularity on mobile devices in general. Mojang revealed last month that Minecraft: Pocket Edition had sold more than 700,000 units across iOS and Android devices, with some 5,000 new purchases recorded every day.
Though Minecraft won't be released for the PS Vita, it is possible that the studio's next game--Scrolls--could be. Kaplan said the new title is "definitely coming for touch screens," but stopped short of confirming it for the PS Vita. That game is currently embroiled in a legal tussle with Bethesda, which claims "Scrolls" is an infringement on Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls games.
Hmmm.. If PSVita takes off I wouldn't be surprised if they changed their mind. Afterall.. "No plans" doesn't mean no. Does seem like a game which would fit the thing beautifully, we'll see!
Bethesda is very protective of their IPs. I for one wouldn't get Scrolls mixed up with The Elder Scrolls. It's usually either Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, or TES.
considering the ridiculous amount of resources this game needs on a PC im not surprised, especially after the beta.
i would be awesome if they did. sony get of ur bum and pay them for it. would be the best minecraft pocket edition. better then ipod with no buttons
I whould LOVE a VITA/3DS version of minecraft if i could continue my PC offline worlds on the go and/or i could login to the same online servers i use on my PC... That's why i haven't get the Android version.
@DrKill09 I take it you've not played the likes of Rayman Origins, Limbo, Outlanders or even Street Fighter; all of which could easily be mistaken for coming out ages ago but all of them are some of the finest games to come out in recent years, graphics don't make a good game, game play does and it's something older games still excel at today.
@campbell153 You're wrong. The word scrolls is going to be owned by Mojang if Zenimax doesn't do anything.
"No plans" doesn't mean much, really. It doesn't eliminate the possibility. Still, I doubt that if this were to happen, Mojang would complete a port in-house. I'd imagine they want to move on to other things.
Minecraft could work great on the Vita. inventory management and crafting could be done on the touch screen while fighting, mining, and building would be done with the dual analog and button controls... the Vita is a perfect fit for Minecraft....
why dont people get upset when developers they love like bethesda start being ****'s. I no longer respect bethesda after reading this. Great Work.
a shame honestly. but oh well. Truth is i hope they would expand the moble versions they have now. add more blocks /doors to the ipad version and how about FLYING in creative mode? Heh.
I really couldn't care less about Minecraft being on PS Vita because I really don't see the appeal of Minecraft it just looks so boring.
