such a good idea, I hope the pricing is super cheap Assustador
The Karaoke Channel and Microsoft Studios partner for new singing game that streams music for charge in 2, 6, and 24 hour intervals.
Microsoft recently added its first free-to-play game to Xbox Live, but the company isn't finished trying new things. Microsoft and The Karaoke Channel have announced a collaboration that will bring a new pay-by-the-hour karaoke game to Xbox Live later this year.
The game--simply titled Karaoke--features a library of over 8,000 songs spanning numerous genres, including pop, rock, country, hip-hop, and others. Songs will be available by streaming, with no download required.
Karaoke will launch with free sample songs, with "full access" to the entire library available in in blocks of 2, 6, or 24 hours by redeeming Microsoft Points. New songs will be added to the library on a regular basis Microsoft said. Regarding pricing, a Microsoft representative said, "We haven’t announced pricing yet, but please stay tuned."
Kinect support for Karaoke on Xbox Live was not mentioned, with Microsoft saying gamers must have an Xbox 360 headset, Xbox 360 wireless microphone, or a compatible USB microphone to play the game.

LOL at Xbox live for this. Deep down I hope it doesn't come to the PSN, but I really don't care in the long run seeing how I won't play it regardless.
Did you guys know that you can get free Xbox Live points if you use Bing http://www.bing.com/rewards/ and you get to get to buy songs for free as long as you use Bing! Pretty good I would say :)
i dont' understand why everyone is complaining this is basically the same system that you'd have in a karaoke bar but you can get it at home. Also you can't compare this to rock band or guitar hero if they give you access to 8000+ songs. So at least wait to see the price before you start crying about microsoft trying to rip you off.
it just shows that with new technology they can do this kind of stuff because they see how stupid people really are, and its a fact, if they didn't think people are stupid, all this stupid stuff wont be here.
I remember a Simpson's episode, I think it was a Simpson's episode, a decade ago that parodied how American looked down on karaoke as an activity. It's a bit ironic that Xbox Live should be the first of the big 3 to have this kind of charged by time, streamed service. :) Or is it?
So what happens if you're in the middle of a song and your time runs out? Does it cut you off and demand money to let you finish?
@TwilightPhoenix I can only imagine how embarrassing that would be with a large group of people sitting around....
Pay by the hour?
I have parties all the time, but not owning the content seems the most expensive way to do this.
I would have to rent the game everytime I have a party. No thanks.
Knowing their Xbox Live prices, I have a feeling this will be way overpriced as well.
I will just stick to Rockband 3 (3 microphone support + RB1 and RB2 songs included), Singstar and other games instead. I already have $100 invested in those music catalogs and I don't have to worry about a time frame.
I really like the idea...provided it's cheap enough. Rock Band always breaks out all all of our parties, at least the mic does. Nobody wants to play instruments anymore, we just sing and this would fit perfectly. I would pay $5 for two hours, I mean, that's cover for a bar on a weekend anyway.
got to love MICROCRAP and their nickel and diming the publice antics. What's more sad is the blind fanboys that will defend them and their nonsense. I've been gaming since the 70's and it just seems that another gaming crash like the 80's is just around the coner. Greed is an ugly thing and it's not going to stop until gamers as a whole send a clear message, ENOUGH!!!
Its like the first version of phone sex fees but for games now. Next will be how can they charge you again with less time between fees.
I don't know which of my saving qualities wrenched me back from the cliff overlooking this doom, the fact that I despise paying fees for games or the fact that it's for a disgraceful social/party game...
Things just get worse and worse....
Are there really people stupid enough out there to pay by the hour for their video games?!?!
Why not just get a stripper or something, I mean you'd probably end up spending less on her/him knowing M$
I will pass.I like karaoke but not enough to pay, don't have many people that would come over and play.
@namdar yeah i agree 8000 songs is not alot if compare to a karaoke joint but it's not like people going to sing half of the songs available anyway.
I guess this is not a bad idea i theory. And I can see this going well. But I think we are witnessing the next business model that will be taken too far. It seems like most good ideas get taken out of control (DLC, Online Patching, ect.) So we know companies are going to see how successful this is, which I think it will be fairly, and other companies (EA is already salivating at this idea) will all implement their own concepts and slowly begin to push the boundaries until we are stuck with a similar model.
Actually, this is a good idea.
It 's cheaper and less strenuous than going to a Karaoke joint (and you get that privacy and comfort of home thing).
This might actually work well in Asia.
This is actually well played. This keeps the music constantly updating and people can access it whenever they want opposed to paying 60 bucks for a game of Karaoke and then not too long after that, the next one comes out for another 60 with some DLC in between.
This is more than fair to the players who would use this for parties or just hang outs with friends.
Honestly - anyone against this isn't really looking at it properly. Games like this typically get played one time and one time only: At a party. Good pay model, assuming the price is in line with $1-2 per hour, which is totally in line with this type of entertainment.

I'm not against this. Way less people would outright buy karaoke channel access at whatever price they would ask, but if you gotta pay $5 for a 2 hour karaoke party at your house, I'd rather have that option than pay $15 a month for the karaoke channel and barely use it.
Seriously MicroShit is so greedy. This pay-to-play is just like that Xbox Live Arcade game that had all old school game cabinets games and you in order to get the 50 Achievements you had to spend like $1,200 of real $$$ to buy the cabinets/games to earn All Achievements. Seriously its crap like this and RROD that made me switch to PS3 going on 4 1/2 years now. Microsoft needs to rethink how they run things or there going lose all the people who support Microsoft even after suffering 3 or more RROD. Why people still game on Shitbox I will never know.
I can't wait not to play this. Seriously. If I want to do Karaoke & pay for it. It will not be from my living room.
One step closer to paying buy the minute. . . . What happens if some silly little 9 year old leaves it running?
