PlayStation 4 will stream PlayStation 3 games - Report
Cloud streaming service in the PlayStation 4 designed said to allow users to play PlayStation 3 games on the next-gen console.
The PlayStation 4 will be able to stream PlayStation 3 games over the Internet, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal.
Citing sources "familiar" with Sony's plans, the WSJ reports that "the new technology, to be unveiled Wednesday along with the new console, will allow users to play games delivered over the Internet, these people said. The streaming service, they added, is designed to use current PlayStation 3 titles on the new console; the new device is also expected to play new games stored on optical discs."
The WSJ adds that streaming support in the PlayStation 4 comes alongside "other enhancements to bolster its position on the market," but does not go any further into what these might be.
Two photographs of the PlayStation 4's devkit controller have surfaced recently, showing a front-facing touch screen and an integrated speaker. Another rumour has said Sony will be focusing on new play options as opposed to technical power, though one leaked specification sheet for the PlayStation 4 suggests a machine significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3.
Sony acquired streaming company Gaikai last year for $380 million, and since then the Gaikai website has teased pictures of Uncharted, Killzone, and Metal Gear Solid.
Sony today updated its website for PlayStation Meeting 2013 to show a video titled PlayStation Evolution, which could potentially be teasing a PlayStation 4 unveiling at the New York event on February 20, which will take place at 18:00 EST/15:00 PST/23:00 GMT. GameSpot will be in attendance and broadcasting the event live.
